JUNE 27 1864
Early in May an army of some 100,000 led by Sherman
marched south from Chattanooga. General Joseph E.
Johnston had 65,000 Confederate men assigned to
him and was charged with stopping Sherman's advance.
After much maneuvering and a few minor fights the
battle of Kennesaw Mountain took place. Once again
the South finished with far less casualties than
the North but Sherman continued on, on towards
Atlanta!
