MAY 2 1863
One of the finest battles fought by the Confederates
commences. Chancellorsville was fought over several
days with the Union Army controlled by Major-
General Joseph Hooker vastly out-numbering Robert E.
Lee's by some 140,000 to 65,000.
Despite the odds, the South won but not without
losses. The greatest being the death of their great
commander Stonewall Jackson. Jackson was accidently
shot by a group of Confederate infantry on the
alert for Union cavalry. Initially he was expected
to recover but fell into a fever and died on May 10.
