  31. 1) General Information
  32. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  33.    Welcome to my new series of synthesizer utilities. The Dumpmen™. 
  34.    Dumpman K1 is the second one out, and is a Sys-Ex dump handler for 
  35.    the Kawai K1/K1m models.  Dumpman K1 lets you send, save, load and 
  36.    request almost anything with your Kawai K1.
  37.  
  38.    It does the same thing as all other MIDI dump handlers out there, 
  39.    but this one is specialized and optimized for the only K1. In other 
  40.    words, it takes only the memory that's needed.

  42.    I hope you enjoy it. Check out the PROGRAMS.TXT file. It's a list

  58.    Yes, it's true. Dumpman K1 _IS_ shareware. Please send U$10 in cash
  59.    along with a disk, and I'll send you the registered version. I have
  60.    been programming, testing, smurfing, and debugging this program 
  61.    for a very long time now. So I would be very grateful if you would 
  62.    contribute this little donation. All of the money I receive will go 
  63.    to registration fees for OTHER shareware products. So your money 
  64.    will not just help me, but other shareware programmers as well.

  66.    Please show that shareware works. What's U$10 to you, compared to 
  67.    the months of spare time I've put into this program?

  69.    NOTE!!! When I first created the program, I created it together 
  70.    with a key program. But I decided not to use that part in my 
  71.    program, as it would take up A LOT of important memory. So... when 
  72.    you register the program, I will PERSONALLY compile a version 
  73.    registered only for you! This will also ensure that you always have 
  74.    the latest version.

  98. 3) The Main Screen
  99. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  100.    This is where you work. It's here Dumpman will provide you with 
  101.    information about the dump. What KIND of dump. WHERE the dump came 
  102.    from. And all NAMES in the dump - of course.

  105. 4) Loading Sys-Ex
  106. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  107.    Dumpman only supports clean Sys-Ex files, not the ones with the 
  108.    Steinberg header (ones dumped with Satellite). With K1_CNVRTER.PRG, 
  109.    you can convert these (and other formats) into clean Sys-Ex.

  112. 5) Saving Sys-Ex
  113. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  114.    It does exactly what you think it will. It saves the dump to disk 
  115.    or harddisk. If there's no room left on the disk, it will let you 
  116.    know.

  119. 6) Transmit
  120. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  121.    This will send your dump to your K1. Your synthesizer will receive 
  122.    it, IF it's indicated as ON and connected.

  125. 7) Request
  126. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  127.    This function will request a selected dump. When you press the 
  128.    Request-button Dumpman will ask you what kind of dump you want from 
  129.    your K1.

  131.    IMPORTANT! You must do a full connection between the Atari and the 
  132.    synthesizer. Im other words : MIDI OUT (Atari) -> MIDI IN (K1), and 
  133.    MIDI IN (Atari) -> MIDI OUT (K1). It's that easy!

  135.    If you don't have a full connection, you could try sending the dump 
  136.    by hand (indicated as from the synthesizer). I can't promise it
  137.    will work, but _it should_. But in that case you MUST have MIDI IN 
  138.    (Atari) -> MIDI OUT (K1) connection.

  140.    You might also note that you can't request a single patch or a 
  141.    multi patch. Well... I didn't add that option, because I don't 
  142.    think that's especially useful. If you have a different opinion, 
  143.    let me know!

  145.    WARNING! If you have an EXTERNAL dump (from a card) you can ONLY 
  146.    dump it back to a card. The dump will be ignored by the K1 if there 
  147.    is no card in the slot.

  156. 9) Program/Accessory modes
  157. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  158.    The program works both as an accessory  (ACC),  and as a program 
  159.    (PRG). Just change the extension. The RSC-file must be in the same 
  160.    directory as the program/accessory.

  163. 10)Install application
  164. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  165.    You can install Dumpman K1 to automagically load a file, just by
  166.    clicking on it.
  167.    
  168.    Just click on DUMPMNK1.PRG (this option only works in program mode), 
  169.    goto the Install application option in your desktop, and enter the 
  170.    extension you use on your Kawai K1 Sys-Ex files (SYS, SYX or 
  171.    whatever you use), then save the desktop.

  173.    Now, when you double-click on any file with the extension you 
  174.    selected, Dumpman K1 will run, and automagically load the file you 
  175.    clicked on.

  177.    If you run NeoDesk, you could also drag the Sys-Ex file to the 
  178.    Dumpman icon.

  181. 11)Test equipment and programs
  182. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  183.    It has been tested on following models :
  184.  
  185.    STFM (TOS 1.02/1MB),
  186.    STE  (TOS 1.062/2.5MB),
  187.    Mega ST (TOS 2.06/4MB),
  188.    TT (TOS 3.06/20MB with or without Fast-RAM),
  189.    Falcon030 (TOS 4.02/14MB).

  192. 12)Known bugs / restrictions
  193. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  194.    Dumpman will only work in 640x400 pixels or more. If enough people 
  195.    want a 640x200 pixel version I _could_ maybe arrange that.
  196.  
  197.    If, for example, you have 4 windows open on the desktop and you 
  198.    open Dumpman as an accessory, some fragments of the dialogs MIGHT 
  199.    stay in the windows for a while.  When you exit, everything will 
  200.    be normal again. I don't see this as any serious problem, and for 
  201.    the moment I'll devote my energy to deal with more pressing needs.

  203.    You might notice the boxes will update VERY slow when running 
  204.    another program in the background (such as Cubase).  Please try 
  205.    to avoid entering the menubar while the boxes are updating. This 
  206.    COULD lead to problems (not serious problems, but anyway...). 
  207.    One way to avoid this is to get NVDI. It's probably the best 
  208.    screen accelerator available. It's also recommended by Steinberg 
  209.    themselves.

  211.    NOTE!   I won't take ANY responsibility if my program causes 
  212.    your system to crash, and important material disappears. It 
  213.    shouldn't happen, as the program has been tested very carefully 
  214.    by several good beta-testers, and they all report that the 
  215.    program behaves well in terms of releasing memory and usage of
  216.    GEM.

  218.    The program uses the FormDo routine, so it will not multitask in 
  219.    MultiTOS/Mag!x/Geneva, BUT IT WILL if you use MultiDialog. It works 
  220.    very well. I ran it together with Geneva, NeoDesk, STalker, and
  221.    Everest.

  223.    WARNING! Dumpman K1 will have SERIOUS problems, when using the
  224.    screen-saver NITE. NITE does something with the MIDI buffer that
  225.    destroys the current dump.
