  7.     This is just a quick document to get you going with the program. Full
  8. documentation will be coming later on but, the program is fairly straight
  9. foward to use and contains help buttons within the program. So without
  10. further ado, exit this file and try out the program...
  11.  
  12.     Okay, since your reading this I guess you want some more information
  13. before you try out the program so here goes a short explaination of how to
  14. get going with the program.
  15.  
  16.                           MAIN MENU SELECTION
  17.                           -------------------
  18.  
  19. This is the Help File for the Main Menu and gives you a brief outline of
  20. the various functions avialable from FilesBBS Manager The first thing you
  21. must do when you run the program for the first time is enter Goto Setup
  22. from the menu or entering ALT T to jump directly there. It is very
  23. important that you enter SetUp and define the paths for your particular
  24. needs. Failure to enter SetUp first will render this program completely
  25. inoperatable. Once you define your selections in SetUp, make sure that you
  26. save it, otherwise you will have to redefine your preferences each time
  27. the program is run. Now a brief explaination of each function available
  28. from within SetUp
  29.  
  30.  
  31. GOTO SETUP               HOT KEY - ALT T
  32. ----------               ---------------
  33.  
  34. DEFINE ARCHIVE PATHS:
  35.  
  36.    In order for FilesBBS Manager to perform the many options available,
  37. you must define the complete path to include archive program for each
  38. entry. FilesBBS Manager currently supports the following formats: ARC,
  39. LZH, ZIP, ZOO & ARJ. To define a path just mouse click on the button and a
  40. file selector will come up for you to make the appropriate selection. If
  41. you don't plan on ever using a particular archive format you can just
  42. ignore that selection and leave the entry blank.
  43.  
  44. Select ZIP Archiver:     HOT KEY - Z
  45. Select LZH Archiver:     HOT KEY - L
  46. Select ARC Archiver:     HOT KEY - A
  47. Select ZOO Archiver:     HOT KEY - CNTRL Z
  48. Select ARJ Archiver:     HOT KEY - CNTRL A
  49.  
  50. DEFINE MAF.TTP Path:     HOT KEY - M
  51.    When FilesBBS is first run this option is disabled and will only become
  52. enabled when the Octopus.Cfg file is selected for your areas. See Define
  53. Octopus BBS for more information on setting up Octopus.Cfg. Once this
  54. option is enabled you cna then select this button which will bring up a
  55. file selector for you to select the complete path to MAF.TTP. Then if you
  56. make any changes to your Files.BBS files, when you exit the program MAF.TTP
  57. will run to incorporate the changes in Octopus BBS.

  61. DEFINE BRACKETS TYPE:    HOT KEY - B
  62.    Here you will be presented with the option of selecting what type of
  63. brackets you would like to surround your download counters in Files.BBS.
  64. Currently supporte are: [ ], { }, ( ), < > The default if no selection is
  65. made is [ ]
  66.  
  67.                         File Area Options
  68.                         -----------------
  69.  
  70. QUICKBBSs FLSEARCH.CTL:   HOT KEY - F
  71.    Selecting this option will bring up a Alert that will ask you if you
  72. want to change the currently specified path for your File Areas. If you
  73. select 'Cancel' you will be returned to the Set-Up Menu. If 'Yes' is
  74. selected a file selector will come up and your need to specify the complete
  75. path to the Flsearch.Ctl file. The easiest way to make sure it is corect
  76. is to physically select the program and click on okay.
  77.  
  78. ALTERNATE CONFIG:        HOT KEY - C
  79.    Bye selecting this option you will then be using FilesBBS Manager's own
  80. config file (FBM.DAT) for all your file areas. When first run you will be
  81. asked if you would like to add the areas that you may have previously
  82. added into memory by having selected QuickBBS's FLSEARCH.CTL file or
  83. Octopus BBS's OCTOPUS.CFG file. If you select NO and this is your first
  84. time in you will go immediately to the ADD FILE AREA FORM so you can define
  85. your first file area. Otherwise, you will go the the Alternate Config
  86. Set-Up Form that will allow you to finish setting up or modify your
  87. different file areas. For more infomation you can see the area on setting
  88. up a Alternate Config.
  89.  
  90. OCTOPUS BBS's:          HOT KEY - O
  91.    Selecting this option has two effects. First yo will be presented with
  92. an Alert and asked if you wnat to modify the current settings if you select
  93. 'Yes' you will get a file selector for you to select the complete path to
  94. OCTOPUS.CFG. The easiest way to insure you have the complete path is to
  95. make sure you select the program and then click on Okay. The next thing
  96. that will happen is the selection button for defining the path to MAF.TTP
  97. will become enabled for you to select it.
  98.  
  99. ALTERNATE CONFIG SETUP
  100. ----------------------
  101.    The display shows the following information for the first 6 areas that
  102. you have defined. 
  103.  
  104.      NUMBER  - This is the current entry number for the Area and is
  105.                required when modifing a area (Change or Delete)
  106.  
  107.      PATH    - This is the path to the FilesBBS file...
  108.  
  109.      CD-PATH - This is the path defined for your CD-ROM. This will be blank
  110.                if the button 'HD' is defined for this area.
  111.  
  112.      TITLE   - This the Title Description Defined for this Area
  113.  
  114. NEXT:      HOT KEY - Right Arrow
  115.    This will display the Next 6 defined areas available.
  116.  
  117. PREVIOUS   HOT KEY - Left Arrow
  118.    This will display the Previous 6 defined areas available.
  119.  
  120. ADD NEW AREA:     HOT KEY - CNTRL A
  121.    Selecting this option will bring up another form for you to add another
  122. area to your system. The following options are available within ADD NEW
  123. AREA:
  124.  
  125.      SELECT PATH TO FILES.BBS FILE:    HOT KEY - CNTRL F
  126.      Selecting this dialog box will bring up the file selector, just select
  127.      the path to your FilesBBS file. Once selected the path will be
  128.      displayed just below it.
  129.  
  130.      SELECT PATH TO CD-ROM:            HOT KEY - CNTRL C
  131.      Selecting this dialog box is optional and is only required if you wish
  132.      to define a CD-ROM path. Once selected the file selector will come up
  133.      and you need to select the path to your CD-ROM area. Once selected the
  134.      path will be displayed just below it.
  135.  
  136.      ENTER TITLE FOR THIS AREA:
  137.      This is an editable text field, just enter the Title that you wish to
  138.      utilize for this area.
  139.  
  140.      EXIT:                              HOT KEY - ALT E
  141.      This will exit back to the Alternate Config and will place your
  142.      defined area at the end of the currently selected areas. One thing to
  143.      remember is if you define a CD-ROM path and Title without defining the
  144.      path to FilesBBS your Area will not be added. You must define FilesBBS
  145.      path.
  146.  
  147. MODIFY AREA:     HOT KEY - CNTRL M
  148. Once Modify Area is selected form will come up prompting you to enter the
  149. area that you wish to modify. Enter the number of the area to change and
  150. hit return. You will then be prompted by an alert to either DELETE or
  151. MODIFY AREA. If you select Delete your entry will be removed from you
  152. Alternate Config file. Selecting Modify will bring up another form simular
  153. to ADD NEW AREA.  See ADD NEW AREA for a list of Hot Keys and for an
  154. explaination of each entry.
  155.  
  156. SAVE:            HOT KEY - ALT S
  157. Selecting This option from the Alternate Config Form will Save your entries
  158. in the current path to the file FBM.DAT. This file can be viewed with a
  159. Text Editor but, if you edit it make sure it is in the exact same format.

  161. EXIT:            HOT KEY - ALT E
  162. Selecting this option will exit you back to the Set-Up form and Load into
  163. memory FBM.DAT.
  164.  
  165. NOTE: Make sure that before you exit Set-up That you select SAVE on the
  166. ----  form so that your entries will be saved for later use. Otherwise
  167.       subsequent runnings of FilesBBS Manager will force you to redefine
  168.       the options in Set-Up again!!!

  172. LOAD AREA        HOT KEY - ALT O
  173. ---------        ---------------

  175. Selecting this Option from the Menu Bar will bring up a form for you to
  176. page through and select the currently available areas that you have defined
  177. by selecting either OCTOPUS.CFG, FBM.DAT, or FLSEARCH.CTL in Set-Up. The
  178. following options are available:
  179.  
  180. NEXT:            HOT KEY - Right Arrow
  181. This will allow you to page through the areas you have defined 12 at a
  182. time...
  183.  
  184. PREVIOUS         HOT KEY - Left Arrow
  185. This will allow you to page through the areas you have defined 12 at a time
  186. in reverse.
  187.  
  188. SELECTING AN AREA:
  189. Selecting an area to load is easy just mouse click on the area desired or
  190. use the number keys: 1 thru 0 for areas 1 thru 10, and shift 1 for 11,
  191. shift 2 for 12 to utilize the hot keys.  You can also toggle the display
  192. between Descriptions being shown and the path being shown by mouse clicking
  193. on Description or Path..
  194.  
  195. EXIT:            HOT KEY - ALT E
  196. Selecting this option will kick you back to the main form without making
  197. any selections.

  201. SAVE AREA:       HOT KEY - ALT S

  204. Selecting This entry is pretty straight foward... All entries to the
  205. currently displayed FilesBBS area will be saved to file.  A backup of your
  206. area called FILES.BAK will be made just in you decided to not accept the
  207. changes you made. To do this just delete the FILES.BBS file and rename
  208. FILES.BAK to FILES.BBS
  209.

  215. Selecting Exit Program causes a couple of checks to be done before FilesBBS
  216. Manager exits. First a check is done to see if the currently displayed
  217. FilesBBS Area has been changed and if so, you are prompted at this time to
  218. either Save or abandon the changes made. Second, a check is made to see if
  219. you have made any changes to Set-Up and if so, you are given the oportunity
  220. to exit back to FilesBBS Manager to save your changes or exit. Third, if
  221. you are using Octopus BBS's OCTOPUS.CFG file and have defined the path to
  222. MAF.TTP. FilesBBS Manager will run MAF for you and update Octopus BBS's
  223. file area records before exiting...

  227. LIST OF FILES:  HOT KEY - ALT G

  230. Selecting this option will bring up a list of files of the currently
  231. selected FilesBBS file and allow you to page through the file list 18 files
  232. at a time with partial descriptions shown. From this form you can select to
  233. jump to any file in the list just by clicking on the file or by using one
  234. of the following Hot Keys: Use 1 thru 0 for Files 1 thru 10 and Use Shift 1
  235. thru Shift 8 for Files 11 thru 18.

  237. NOTE:  The display will start from the currently displayed file and foward.
  238. ----   To access files before this record just select Previous...
  239.    
  240. NEXT:          HOT KEY - KEYPAD RIGHT PARENTHESIS
  241. This option allows you to page foward through entries 18 files at a time.

  243. PREVIOUS:      HOT KEY - KEYPAD LEFT PARENTHESIS 
  244. This option allows you to page backward through entries 18 files at a time.

  247. Exit form and return to file that was displayed at the start.

  251.                FilesBBS Manager Main Form Options

  254. Some general information about moving through the files and also a little
  255. info about the displayed items.
  256.  
  257. MOVE FOWARD 1 RECORD:     HOT KEY - KEYPAD BACKSLASH 
  258. You can move foward one record at a time by either mouse clicking on the
  259. single arrow pointing to the right or by using the defined Hot Key.
  260.  
  261. MOVE FOWARD 10 RECORDS:   HOT KEY - KEYPAD ASTERICK
  262. You can move foward 10 records at a time by either mouse clicking on the
  263. double arrow pointing to the right or by using the defined Hot Key.
  264.  
  265. MOVE BACKWARD 1 RECORD:   HOT KEY - KEYPAD RIGHT PARENTHISIS
  266. You can move backward 1 record at a time by either mouse clicking on the
  267. single arrow pointing to the left or by using the defined Hot Key.

  269. MOVE BACKWARD 10 RECORDS: HOT KEY - KEYPAD LEFT PARENTHISIS
  270. You cna move backward 10 records at a time by either mouse clicking on the
  271. double arrow pointing to the left or by using the defined Hot Key.

  273. JUMP TO RECORD:           HOT KEY - CNTRL N
  274. You can jump to any record by either mouse clicking on the file number or
  275. file total number or by using the defined Hot Key.  What happens when
  276. selected a small form will come up and prompt you to enter the file number
  277. you wish to jump to, just enter the number and hit enter. If you enter a
  278. number out of range you will be taken to the last entry of the list of
  279. files.

  281.                      A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE DISPLAY
  282.    
  283. DESCRIPTION:
  284. The description is a editable text field consisting of 4 lines.  Here is
  285. where you can modify the description for each record contained within the
  286. FilesBBS file. Remember that in order to make the changes permenent you
  287. must Save the FilesBBS file before exiting or before changing to another
  288. area.
  289.  
  290. FILENAME - Self explainatory I hope ;)...
  291. SIZE     - Shows the current displayed files size.
  292. DATE     - Shows the current displayed files Date.
  293. DOWNLOAD - Shows how many times the file was downloaded.
  294.  
  295. CURRENTLY DISPLAYED AREA INFO
  296. Here is displayed some info about the currently loaded FilesBBS file area.
  297.  
  298. DESCRIPTION - Name you defined for FilesBBS that is loaded.
  299.  
  300. PATH        - This is the Path to the FilesBBS file Loaded.
  301.  
  302. CD-ROM PATH - This is the Path to the CD-Rom Files Area
  303.

  306.                           Using Options

  309. DO CURRENT FILES BBS:
  310. By placing a check mark here you will only do the currently selected area.
  311.  
  312. DO ALL FILES BBS:
  313. By placing a check mark here you will do all the areas defined on your
  314. system.
  315.  
  316. SORT FILES.BBS:            HOT KEY - CNTRL S
  317. Selecting this option will Sort either the currently selected area or all
  318. areas in Alphabetical order.
  319.  
  320. FIND MISSING FILES:        HOT KEY - CNTRL F
  321. Selecting this option will search the files.bbs file and the files within
  322. the directory and ask you if you want to delete any Files.BBS entries that
  323. doesn't have a matching file for.  As a side benifit of this function it
  324. will also search for any files that are not in the Files.BBS file and ask
  325. you if you wish to upload the files that are found.
  326.  
  327. FIND MISSING DESCRIPTIONS: HOT KEY - CNTRL D
  328. Selecting this option will search each Files.BBS entry for any descriptions
  329. with a Zero (0) length description. If any are found you are prompted to
  330. either skip or add a description for the file.

  334.                    Help Using the Utilities
  335.                    ------------------------

  337. CHECK FILE_ID.DIZ/*UPL   HOT KEY - CNTRL I
  338. This option will only work on files with the extention of ZIP, ARC, LZH,
  339. ZOO & ARJ. This function will check for a File_ID.Diz and *.UPL files, if
  340. one is found you will be presented with another Form, whereby you can edit
  341. the description from the 'DIZ' or 'UPL' file, or you can keep the old
  342. description. Hot Key for Use Old Description is 'O' or 'D' for Use the Diz
  343. Description.
  344.  
  345. LIST CONTENTS:           HOT KEY - CNTRL L
  346. Selecting this option will list the archive contents of the following types
  347. of Archives - ZIP, LZH, ARC, ARJ or ZOO.
  348.  
  349. UPLOAD FILE(S):          HOT KEY - CNTRL U
  350. Clicking on Upload will bring up a fileselector to select the file you wish
  351. to upload. After the file is selected you will be asked if you want to
  352. upload the file to the current area or if you would like to select another
  353. area to upload the file too. Wildcards can be used in the filename and all
  354. matching entries will be uploaded to either the current path or to the path
  355. that you specified to upload the files too.  Once the file(s) are uploaded
  356. you will be placed at the first file uploaded, so that you can enter the
  357. descriptions.
  358.  
  359. DELETE FILE:             HOT KEY - CNTRL K
  360. Selecting this option you will be given one last chance to change your
  361. mind, otherwise the file will be removed from the directory and from the
  362. Files.BBS file.
  363.  
  364. COPY FILE:               HOT KEY - CNTRL C
  365. Selecting this option will allow you to copy the displayed file to another
  366. file area. Remember that the original will be kept in tack.
  367.  
  368. MOVE FILE:               HOT KEY - CNTRL M
  369. Selecting this option will allow you to move the displayed file to another
  370. file area. Remember that the original will be deleted.
  371.  
  372. EXECUTE PROGRAM:         HOT KEY - CNTRL X
  373.  Selecting this option will bring up a file selector to run the program of
  374. your choice. If the file has the extension of TTP or GTP you will be
  375. prompted with a command line to place your commands before the program is
  376. run.

  379.                        Convert Archive
  380.                        ---------------
  381. INCLUDE FILE_ID.DIZ:
  382. By placing a check mark on this menu option. Will create a File_Id.Diz file
  383. based on the description displayed. If you don't wish to create a
  384. File_Id.Diz just mouse click on the Menu option to remove the check mark.

  386. CONVERT ZIP:            HOT KEY - ALT Z
  387. CONVERT LZH:            HOT KEY - ALT L
  388. CONVERT ARC:            HOT KEY - ALT A
  389. You may only convert files with a extension of ARC, LZH, ZOO, ARJ, ZIP. You
  390. can only convert to ZIP, LZH, or ARC files mainly because of problems with
  391. ZOO and ARJ isn't available available for the Atari. You may choose to have
  392. a File_Id.Diz (See File_Id.Diz above).

  399. SEARCH FOR FILE:        HOT KEY - CNTRL Z
  400. Selecting this option will bring up a form for you to enter part or all of
  401. the filename you wish to search for. Wildcards * and ? are allowed. EX:
  402. S*.ZIP, S*.*, *.ZIP, S??.ZIP You can then select either the current path or
  403. search all paths for the filename. Selecting Cancel (HOT KEY - ALT C) will
  404. return without searching, Selecting Search(HOT KEY - ALT E) Will conduct
  405. the search.

  407. SEARCH FOR DESCRIPTION:  HOT KEY - CNTRL E
  408. Selecting this option will bring up a form for you to enter the text you
  409. wish to search for in each file description.
  410.  
  411. NOTE: Wildcards * and ? are not excepted and are treated as part of the
  412.       search string.
  413.  
  414.    You can then select either the current path or search all paths for the
  415. filename. Selecting Cancel (HOT KEY - ALT C) will return without searching,
  416. Selecting Search(HOT KEY - ALT E) Will conduct the search.

  420.     Now for the bad news that everyone hates to hear. FilesBBS Manager is
  421. ShareWare and what that means to you the user is that you are free to use
  422. the program in it's current configuration as long as you desire. Only
  423. problem with that is that un-registered versions limit you to 3 uploads per
  424. session & 3 saves of your files.bbs per session. You can obtain a demo key
  425. to try out the program for 30 days to see if you like it or not. After that
  426. time if you decide to register the program you will be required to pay
  427. either $15 or £10 depending on where you register the program at. For more
  428. info on registering see READ_ME.2ND...
