  7.         JCCalendar  is  for the Atari ST range of  computers  and 
  8.         works  in  high resolution mode only though it  has  been 
  9.         tested with a demo version of the Monulator.
  10.         It  will print calendar pages to HP DJ500 printers or  to 
  11.         24pin printers which support 360dpi and can use the <ESC> 
  12.         "*"  n0  n1 n2 m1 m2 .....  command  (see  under  'Select 
  13.         Graphics Mode' in your printer handbook).

  15.         JCCalendar  has been placed in the Public Domain and  may 
  16.         be copied freely and distributed through PD libraries  or 
  17.         placed on BBS so long as no charge is made for access  to 
  18.         the program, though normal copying charges may be made by 
  19.         PD libraries.  It may not be sold as a commercial program 
  20.         or  sold  with  commercial  programs  or  distributed  on 
  21.         magazine cover disks without my written permission.

  23.         The files:-
  24.         JCCAL01.PRG
  25.         JCCALNDR.RSC
  26.         JCCALNDR.TXT
  27.         constitute the PD package and should remain together  and 
  28.         unaltered.  I retain the copyright to my program code and
  29.         the text file.

  31.         You  may  also find a full  set of 12 pictures taken from 
  32.         various PD clip-art disks.

  34.         No  warranties expressed or implied are given as  to  its 
  35.         suitability for use on any machine but my own and all use 
  36.         of the program is made at your own risk.

  38.                           USING THE JCCALENDAR
  39.  
  40.         Ideally  JCCAL01.PRG,  JCCALNDR.RSC  and any PI3  or  PC3 
  41.         pictures should be in the same folder.
  42.         Double  clicking  on  the program  icon  will  start  the 
  43.         program by presenting you with a copy of the Help Screen.
  44.         Click  on  OK  and  the  main  working  screen  will   be 
  45.         displayed.

  47.                              USING PICTURES
  48.  
  49.         JC-Calendar   will  look  for  pictures  named   JAN.PI3, 
  50.         FEB.PI3, etc... or for JAN.PC3, FEB.PC3, etc or, if these 
  51.         do not exist, it will look for TEST.PI3 or TEST.PC3.
  52.         You can use any  Degas  or  Degas  Elite  high resolution
  53.         pictures  by changing the names  so that  JC-Calendar can
  54.         recognise them.
  55.         If  you  have  absolutely no art work  to  use  then  the 
  56.         program  will use a built in picture.   Also, if you  are 
  57.         printing  a  full  year in one session  and  any  of  the 
  58.         pictures are missing then it will repeat the last picture 
  59.         loaded.

  61.         Ideally  the pictures  will be in the same  folder as the
  62.         program but a new path can be chosen.
  63.         One  point to remember is that all  pictures  are given a
  64.         border,  therefore  there will be a section  around  each
  65.         picture which will not be seen.

  67.                            THE WORKING SCREEN
  68.  
  69.         FIND PICTURES
  70.         If  your  pictures  are not in the  same  folder  as  the 
  71.         program  then  click  on this button and  use  the  file-
  72.         selector to find the pictures you wish to use. You do not 
  73.         need to click on the name of any picture - just find  the 
  74.         folder and click OK on the file-selector.

  77.         The numbered buttons allow you to choose any of the seven 
  78.         built in  border patterns and the B button adds an  extra 
  79.         border round the picture itself.  The box at the top left 
  80.         of  the screen shows the top corner of the  border  which 
  81.         has been chosen.

  83.         TEXT
  84.         JC-Calendar  can display / print two lines of text  under 
  85.         the picture. At the moment you will have an advertisement 
  86.         for the program!  You can change this quite easily. Click 
  87.         on  TEXT  and you will be presented with the  text  entry 
  88.         screen.  The top line of text will be displayed. Just hit 
  89.         the  ESC key to clear it and then type in a new  line  of 
  90.         text  or  leave it blank.  Pressing RETURN  displays  the 
  91.         second line of text.  Press RETURN again to return to the
  92.         main working screen.

  94.         JAN  FEB  MAR .... ALL
  95.         Clicking  on the name of a single month will  allow  that 
  96.         month to be viewed on screen or sent to your printer.
  97.         Clicking on ALL allows all twelve months to be seen  (one 
  98.         by one) or sent to your printer.

  100.         TEST VIEW
  101.         Clicking  this  button  shows the  month  /  calendar  on 
  102.         screen.   Months are shown in three parts.   First is the 
  103.         border and  chosen picture, next the text and heading for
  104.         the month,  finally comes the numbers for the month. 
  105.         Clicking the right mouse button moves to the next screen.
  106.         The sequence can be aborted by pressing the UNDO key.

  108.         A B C
  109.         There are three graphic fonts built in to the program and 
  110.         the  one used for the month's name is chosen by  clicking 
  111.         one of these buttons
  112.         1 2 3 4
  113.         These are used to choose the font used for the numbers on 
  114.         the calendar. The first three are large graphic fonts and
  115.         number 4 is whatever screen font you have installed. This 
  116.         will be printed near the top - left of each box,  leaving 
  117.         room for notes to be scribbled in.... When this option is
  118.         chosen, font 1 is used for the year.

  120.         1993 + -
  121.         At the moment the display will show 1993. In future years 
  122.         the  year  will be picked up from the ST if  a  clock  is 
  123.         built in,  otherwise it will still display 1993. The year 
  124.         may  be  altered  up or down by clicking on the  +  or  - 
  125.         buttons. There are upper and lower limits built in.
  126.  
  127.         PRINTER:  DJ500  24pin
  128.         There are built in printer drivers for the HP Deskjet 500
  129.         and  for  Epson  look - alikes  which  can  use the  code
  130.         mentioned in the introduction. Choose the one to suit your
  131.         printer.
  132.         When using a  Deskjet,  the calendar page will fit easily 
  133.         with slightly more space at the bottom than at the top.
  134.         When printing on standard tractor feed paper,   start the 
  135.         printout very near the  perforations as the calendar page 
  136.         will just  fit with a small  margin  top and  bottom on a
  137.         24pin printer.

  139.         PRINT
  140.         Clicking  this button puts up an alert to remind  you  of 
  141.         the printer and month settings.  Clicking NO will  return 
  142.         to  the  main working screen,  clicking  YES  starts  the 
  143.         printing process.  As with the VIEW option each month  is 
  144.         drawn  on  screen in three parts.  The  DJ  should  start 
  145.         almost immediately,  24pin printers take a little  longer 
  146.         as they  have to  receive  a great deal of  graphics data 
  147.         before they actually start work!
  148.         If anything goes wrong or you just change your mind  then 
  149.         press  the UNDO key to stop the output to  your  printer. 
  150.         This  will work almost immediately on the  DJ  but,  once 
  151.         again, it takes a while for a 24pin printer to react.

  153.         HELP
  154.         This re-displays the Help Screen you saw at the beginning 
  155.         of  the program and it also displays my address  so  that 
  156.         you  can drop me a line and tell me how you got  on  with 
  157.         the   program,   any  faults  or  any   suggestions   for 
  158.         improvements.   All feedback will be gratefully  received 
  159.         and acknowledged.

  176.                                  TESTING
  177.  
  178.         JCCalendar  has been tested  on STs  with TOS 1, TOS 1.4 
  179.         and TOS 1.6  with 520K and 4M of memory.   If JCCalendar 
  180.         refuses to run on a 520K machine  you may  have too many 
  181.         ACCs  or  TSRs  as  this  program  is large and  needs a 
  182.         reasonable  amount of working space.     A 520ST running 
  183.         with  just  the  Monulator demo  loaded  whilst  running 
  184.         JCCalendar shows about 130K of free memory.
  185.         The 24pin printer output has been tested on a  Star LC24 
  186.         and on a Citizen ProDot 24.
