  6.      CAUTION

  8.   o  DO NOT set up OCULTACC.ACC until you are CERTAIN that you know how
  9.      it works and how to disable it. See the appropriate section in
  10.      OCULT301.TXT.

  13.      VERSION 3.01a INFO
  14.      ------------------
  15.   o  ERASE your old copy of OCULT3_0.PRG and replace it with OCULT301.PRG.
  16.   o  ERASE your old copy of OCULT3_0.RSC and replace it with OCULT31A.RSC.
  17.   o  The CFG file has also been changed, but don't worry ! Ocultar will
  18.      update registered copies as it is loading. When you save OCULTAR.CFG,
  19.      a new version of the file will be created.
  20.  
  21.      ALL other files are still compatible and need NOT be updated or
  22.      replaced.
  23.  
  24.      The "version history" at the end of OCULT31A.TXT lists any new features
  25.      or changes.

  28.      CPX QUERY
  29.      ---------
  30.      Until I get the FULL story on Atari's newest XCONTROL panel, CPXs will
  31.      NOT be supported in a "rename sweep". Why..?
  32.  
  33.   o  First, non-resident CPXs take up so little memory in the first place
  34.      that it hardly makes sense to disable them. Atari even recommends that
  35.      you keep all but the most used CPXs as "non-resident" (meaning that
  36.      the bulk of the program is not loaded into RAM at bootup, only ID and
  37.      icon information). The extra second or two it takes to load them into
  38.      memory seems worth the savings in RAM.
  39.  
  40.   o  Second, the newer versions of XCONTROL are now said to save CPX 
  41.      filenames to the CONTROL.INF file. CPXs listed in this file are
  42.      loaded at bootup (I guess they got that idea from CodeHeads MultiDesk
  43.      Deluxe). Therefore, you can keep all of your CPXs wherever you keep
  44.      them and merely copy the CONTROL.INF file to the proper directory at
  45.      bootup time.

  47.   o  Lastly, several "replacement" control panels now offer a similar 
  48.      CFG (configuration) file which allows you to specify setups by the
  49.      CFG files contents. You need merely copy the appropriate CFG file
  50.      to the proper directory at bootup and the specified CPXs are loaded.

  52.      SO...it doesn't really make sense for me to add a feature which will
  53.      become (or is already) unnecessary. In other words, why rename CPXs
  54.      when the CFG file achieves the same end ?
  55.  
  56.      As mentioned in the first paragraph, I DON'T have the full story.
  57.      Several people in Germany have told me of the newest XCONTROL, but
  58.      I have yet to obtain a copy. As soon as I get one I'll update this
  59.      file (let you know the name(s) and availability).

  62.      IMPORTANT TOS INFORMATION
  63.      -------------------------
  64.      Versions of TOS equal to, or later than, TOS 2.05, automatically
  65.      reload desk accessories when a resolution switch is detected. If you
  66.      have one of these later versions and attempt to switch resolutions
  67.      from within the configuration part of Ocultar, the program will crash.
  68.      Please see all sections concerning the TT & TOS 2.05+ if this is true.
  69.      You can still use the feature it affects, but must do so under
  70.      controlled conditions.

  73.      DO NOT PACK THE EXECUTABLE FILES
  74.      --------------------------------
  75.   o  Do not squeeze, squish, pack (or similar) OCULTACC.ACC or OCULT301.PRG 
  76.      since these files need to write information to themselves. If you DO
  77.      and then try to write to them, they will, in all likelihood, destroy
  78.      themselves.

  81.      HOW TO OVERRIDE ILL-BEHAVED AUTO PROGRAMS
  82.      -----------------------------------------
  83.   o  If Ocultar won't behave in your AUTO folder (highly unlikely and
  84.      never reported, still...) have the floppy disk with your hard
  85.      disk driver on it handy. Place that disk in drive A and reboot
  86.      your system, holding down the key which over-rides your hard
  87.      disk driver. When you get to the desktop you can remove OCULT3_0.PRG
  88.      from your AUTO folder. Drop me a note and tell me the EXACT conditions
  89.      which lead up to this and/or the programs with which it may have
  90.      conflicted.

  92.      NOTE that if you have OCULTACC.ACC installed that you will still need
  93.           to enter a password, even when over-riding. It is therefore
  94.      recommended that you do NOT install OCULTACC.ACC until you are certain
  95.      that you have OCULT301.PRG working as desired.

  98.      TT COMPUTERS, TOS 1.4, 1.6 & TOS 2.05+
  99.      --------------------------------------
  100.   o  If you're using a TT, or have one of these versions of TOS, PLEASE be
  101.      certain to read the appropriate sections in the main text file.

  106.      MASTER DISK COPIES
  107.      ------------------
  108.   o  The copyright notices and current backdoor password will be removed
  109.      from MASTER DISK copies (see the registration section).

  112.      BACKDOOR PASSWORDS
  113.      ------------------
  114.   o  Since it is now possible to write the backdoors directly into the
  115.      program and accessory yourself, it is NOT necessary to request this
  116.      information on your registration/update. However, if you'd still
  117.      like for me to add a PERMANENT backdoor, I will. Just fill out the
  118.      appropriate line(s) on the registration/update form.

  120.   o  If you DON'T want one installed by me, leave that (those) line(s)
  121.      blank.

  123.   o  NOTE that the backdoor which I will install can NEVER be removed
  124.      or changed unless you request a new copy of the program or until
  125.      you next update your copy.

  127.      PROS: If you forget ALL of your passwords and can't get in, you can 
  128.            contact me and I'll tell you what the permanent backdoor is.

  130.      CONS: If someone discovers the permanent backdoor you will NEVER be
  131.            able to lock them out again.
