  1. What is BOAST?
  2.  
  3. Well, in my time in the ST world, I've realized that there are MANY really
  4. great programs out there which are virtually unusable for about half of the
  5. ST community.  That is really a shame.  Why should so many good programs be
  6. unusable?  Simply because their authors are German, so they naturally write
  7. their programs in their native language!  Sadly, this leaves out the entire
  8. English-speaking ST community!
  9.  
  10. Therefore, armed only with an uneasy knowledge of German, Cassell's German &
  11. English dictionary, and copies of Carlos Varella's CV-Translator, JOVE,
  12. Marcel, and Michtron's Utilities, I am attempting to translate what I
  13. consider to be the best of these German Shareware and Public Domain programs!

  15. I must stress that I am in NO WAY responsible for the performance (or lack
  16. of it) of these programs!  If they kill your machine, don't blame me!  All
  17. will have been tested on my MegaSTE 4/50 and my 1040STf and that's IT!
  18. However, since I use all of these programs on a regular basis, I CAN tell
  19. you that I THINK they are pretty much bug-free!

  21. Also, please note that I am NOT the one you should be thanking for the
  22. creation of these programs!  All are the result of a great deal of hard work
  23. on the part of their authors!  I doubt that I spend 1% of the time and
  24. energy working on translating one of them compared to their original
  25. authors!  Therefore, I BEG YOU, please REGISTER these programs as instructed
  26. in the documentation!  The authors depend on all of us for gratitude, not to
  27. mention a pack of floppy disks from time to time!  :-)

  29. If you DO want to thank me, please feel free to send along gifts of
  30. software!  Perhaps you have discovered some gem (pun intended) which I
  31. missed!  I'll accept UUENCODEs emailed or plain old floppys snail-mailed.
  32. But PLEASE register with the original author too!

  34. If you do register any BOAST program with your email address, I'll put you
  35. on a mailing list and will send out a notice whenever I translate another.

  37. So what is BOAST?  Well, it's a cute acronym for the Best Of Atari ST
  38. shareware!  It's just my little contribution to the ST community. I love all
  39. of these programs and thought they deserved wider distribution.  Please, if
  40. you speak a language other than English, translate these and other great
  41. programs into your native language!  Share the wealth!  Spread the word!

  43. Wherever possible, I have attempted to attain permission from the original
  44. author.  However, sometimes this has not been possible.  In these cases I
  45. have noted this in the translated documentation and would very much like to
  46. be put in contact with the author!

  48. The current list of BOAST software includes:

  50. WINCOLOR - a replacement for Atari's WCOLORS CPX which allows more
  51.            flexibility in window coloration - goes great with WINX!
  52. HD_FREE - a great little CPX which shows the amount of disk and memory space
  53.           free in a useful bar-graph form
  54. HSMODA02 - the most talked-about serial port patch!  a modular, configurable
  55.            system for all ST/TT computers
  56. UPoint - a full-featured UUCP program for the ST
