  9. 1. Features
  10.  
  11. This program is used to pack other programs. It uses the older version of 
  12. the LHarc-compression-routine, therefor it is compatible with LHarc. 
  13. The code produced by this method is aprox. 5% larger than standard LHarc
  14. 1.13-code, but it is still bettern than ARC. After compression a verry small 
  15. decoder is added to the code. The decoder will start its work automatically 
  16. after starting the program. It will do its work at a rate of aprox. 100KB 
  17. per second.

  19. Theoretically, it is possible to extract pfxpak-archives with all versions
  20. of LHarc (even under MS-DOS), but due to a mistyped constant, it will work
  21. at 1.13.04.

  23. 2. Compresion.
  24.   
  25.    If your program is able to work with the fastload-bit set, click on
  26.    fastload first. This will set the bit in the original program. (If it
  27.    is already set, PFXPAK will recocnize this).

  29.    After clicking at the [Compress], select the program. A dialogbox will
  30.    show you the status of compression. The first number is the process-
  31.    indicator, it will count up to 100%, the second line shows the ratio.
  32.    
  33.    At the end, the fileselectorbox reappears to give you the chance of
  34.    changing the name or path for the compressed program. You may, of
  35.    course, just hit [Return] to let the name and path unchanged. The 
  36.    number of bytes reduced is shown on the last dialog-box.

  38. 2. Decompression
  39.  
  40.    Normally the programms decompress themselvs. If it doesn't work, you
  41.    may decompress it either with LHarc or with PFXpak. If you use LHarc,
  42.    you only have to rename your program to programm.LZH and treat it as
  43.    a normal Archiv. If you use PFXpak, you have to select the compressed
  44.    file in a fileselectorbox.

  47. 3. Shareware
  48.  
  49.    This is not free software. If you paied a public-domain vendor for
  50.    this program, you paid for the service of copying and shipping the
  51.    program, not for the program itself. This means that nothing ever
  52.    get to the autors from this sale.

  54.    You are allowed to copy PFXPAK and to give it to your friends or a 
  55.    PD-Library. It is not allowed to sell this program. It is not allowed
  56.    to copy this program without its documentation or without the 
  57.    registration-form.

  59.    If you register, you will receive
  60.    
  61.     - A newer and better version of PFXPAK. This version includes:
  62.         - recusive collecting of executable files. This mean you are able
  63.           to pack your whole disk with a few mouseclicks.
  64.         - A virus tester. The idea behind this is that every PFXpacked 
  65.           program has the same code. The registered version of PFXPAK 
  66.           knows every byte of all version of the decoder. Therefor if
  67.           a virus infects a PFXpacked program, it MUST change one of the
  68.           well known bytes of the decoder.
  69.         - The registered version runs as an accessory.
  70.         - A free copy of LZS2PFX. This enables you to add other files to
  71.           your programs (for example the readme).
  72.         - A free copy of fortune. This program knows about 250KB of nonesens
  73.           and reads it in compressed form. If you put it into your auto-
  74.           folder, you will get up to 5 jokes every time you restart your
  75.           system.
  76.         - A free version of AFX. This is the same as PFX, only it works
  77.           on data-files.

  90. 4. Commercial use of PFXPAK
  91.  
  92.   If you like to deliver your software in compressed and runnable form,
  93.   you have to
  94.     
  95.     - register your copy of PFXPAK ($US 15)
  96.     - send 2 copys of your program (including manual etc.) to me.
  97.     
  98.   It is also possible to pack you data-files with a linkable version of
  99.   AFX. The linkable version of AFX is availabe for $US 50 (please tell,
  100.   wich compiler you are using).
