  59.    I. Intro
  60.      A. What is RWR?
  61.        Some Bulletin Board Systems (BBS), allow you to revieve messages and
  62.   mail, all together in one small file.  One method of doing this is by using
  63.   a QWK door that creates a QWK packet for you, with all the messages you
  64.   want, and then it sends it to you.  You then can use an offline QWK reader,
  65.   for example The Red Wine Reader, to read the messages and answer them on
  66.   you own time.  Then the next time you call the BBS you can send them your
  67.   replies (REP packet), and get another set of messages.
  68.      B. Requirements for running RWR
  69.        RWR runs in ST Medium Resolution, and ST High Resolution.  It needs
  70.   aproximately 100k to run, that's not including the Archive programs that
  71.   RWR uses to uncompact the QWK files, and it's not including any other file
  72.   or program you might run.
  73.        I have personally ran it successfully on a 512k 520 Color ST, with a
  74.   62k Ramdisk installed.
  75.      C. RWR is shareware
  76.        The idea behind shareware is you allow anyone to try it out, and if
  77.   they decide to use it they register the program.  Of course many people
  78.   decide not to register and still to use the program.  This is a problem.
  79.   Many shareware authors use what is called crippleware to make you to
  80.   register. They disable features, and give you half a program, and if you
  81.   register you get the other half.
  82.        I have decided not to cripple RWR.  It is the full version 1.0.  The
  83.   reasons be hind this are:  I trust you, and I hate crippled programs.  I
  84.   find that it doesn't make me register, it makes me delete the program.
  85.   When you register will not be entitled to upgrades.  This program will
  86.   grow, and get much better as more and more people start using it and
  87.   makeing suggestions.  The registered users will all be using the Incredible
  88.   Red Wine Reader version 3.6, and you will be using RWR version 1.0.
  89.        The registration fee is not huge, it is only $15.00.

  121.    II. The Red Wine Reader Configuration Program
  122.      Before you use RWR you need to make a configuration file (REDWINE.SET).
  123.   The easiest way to do this is to run the configuration program
  124.   (RWRSETUP.PRG).  There are two configuration screens, you switch between
  125.   them with the right mouse button.
  126.      A. The Directories
  127.        To select the direcories click on them with the left mouse button
  128.        1. The Work Directory
  129.          This is the Directory that RWR will place all it's temporary files
  130.   in.  NOTE: RWR erases everything in this Directory when it runs, so do not
  131.   put anything important in this Directory.
  132.        2. The Replies Directory
  133.          This is where you want RWR to place you Reply packet (REP). You will
  134.   need to send this to the BBS, so you may want to put it in the same folder
  135.   as your terminal program.
  136.        3. The Conference Mail Directory
  137.          This is where you want RWR to place any conference mail that might
  138.   be in your QWK packet.  Conference mail are files that are send out with
  139.   messages in conferences.
  140.      B. The Arhivers
  141.        Archivers are program that compress and uncompress files.  Your QWK
  142.   file is a compressed file, so RWR will need to uncompress it.  RWR will
  143.   also need to compress the REP file.
  144.        1. Default Archiver
  145.          Here you select the Compression program most likely to be used on
  146.   your QWK packets.  RWR will also use this Compression program to compress
  147.   the REP file.  Choose the Compression program by clicking on one of the 4
  148.   types (Other/Config is not completed, and therefore not selectable).  Then
  149.   show the RWR Configuration file where it is, by clicking on Default
  150.   Archiver:.
  151.        2. Another Archiver
  152.          Here you can select any other Compression program that might be used
  153.   by the BBS to compress your QWK packet.  These two Archivers are optional,
  154.   and if you only use one compression program, you don't have to change
  155.   these.
  156.      C. Show Welcome/Notice/GoodBye?
  157.        3. There are three text files that the BBS will send in a QWK packet.
  158.   They are Welcome, Notice (or Bulletin), and GoodBye.  You can choose
  159.   weither or not RWR should show these automatically when you run it.  NOTE:
  160.   You can use the Show Text File command from the main menu, and view these,
  161.   they should be in the work directory.
  162.      D. Save/Quit
  163.        To save click on the Save Setup File box, then you will get a
  164.   fileselector, enter the path and name to save the setup file as.  To quit,
  165.   simply click on the Quit box.

  167.   III. The Actual Program
  168.      A. Before the Main Menu
  169.        When you first start up RWR it will display the title screen then it
  170.   will search for a REDWINE.SET file.  If it doesn't find one, it will open
  171.   up a fileselector asking you to locate it.  Then it will open up a
  172.   fileselector asking which QWK packet to use.  It will uncompress the QWK
  173.   packet, and show you the main menu.
  174.      B. The Main Menu
  175.        The Main Menu Consists of 6 options (the key to press):
  176.        1. Read Messages (R/M/Return)
  177.        2. New Files (N/F)
  178.        3. Enter Message (E)
  179.        4. Execute Program (X)
  180.        5. Show Text File (S)
  181.        6. Quit (Q,Esc)
  182.      C. Reading Messages
  183.        There are several options availiable when reading messages:
  184.        1. Next Message (N,Right Arrow,Enter, Left Mouse Button)
  185.        2. Previous Message (P,Left Arrow, Right Mouse Button)
  186.        3. Scroll up one line (Up Arrow, Right Mouse Button)
  187.        4. Scroll down one line (Down Arrow, Left Mouse Button)
  188.        5. Next Conference (C)
  189.        6. Reply to message (R)
  190.        7. Dump Message to Printer (D)
  191.        8. Save Message (S)
  192.        9. Search for to (T)
  193.       10. Search for from (F)
  194.       12. Search for subject (J)
  195.       13. Search for message text (M)
  196.       14. Search for message number (3,#)
  197.       15. Toggle <<< foreign message >>> display (/)

  199.      D. New Files
  200.        When you chose this, depending on the type of QWK file, you will
  201.   either be in a window with all the files, or a window with one file at a
  202.   time.  If you are in a window with one file at a time, any key (or mouse
  203.   button) will advance one file, except for "Q" and ESC.  Otherwise it has
  204.   the same keys as Show Text File (see F)
  205.      E. The Message Editor
  206.        The RWR Message Editor is a free editor.  You can move around anywhere
  207.   you like with in.  It is limited at 94 lines, but rarely will you need that
  208.   many.  You can Grab part of the message you are replying to by choosing
  209.   Grab from the bottem of the screen.
  210.      F. Show Text File
  211.        This option will show a text file.  To scroll up you use the right
  212.   mouse button or the up arrow, to scroll down you use the left mouse button
  213.   or the down arrow.  To quit use the right arrow, Return, Q, ESC, both mouse
  214.   buttons, or hold down the left mouse button at the end of the file.
  215.      G. The REP Packet
  216.        When you quit RWR it will check to see if you have answered or
  217.   entered any messages.  If you have, it will create a REP file to send
  218.   to the BBS that the messages came from.

  222.        I need to know what I can do to improve the Red Wine Reader.  I need
  223.   to know of any bugs that exist.  I will definitely include you suggestions
  224.   in the next version, but realize unless you've registered you won't see the
  225.   next version.
