IMHO
====
If you just want to have a mess about with this OLR right away
without having to plough through all the documentation, then
just do the following...
Put all the folders and files extracted from the the self-extracting
archive onto a nice fresh floppy disk and boot your ST with it in
the A drive.
Now double-click on the IMHO.PRG file on the A disk.
You should now get a dialog box.
The following instructions will take you through most of the
the features of this OLR.
Click on the "Open Message Packet" button.
This brings up a file selector - double click on KEITHPT.123
to open the message packet.
For the purpose of this packet "you" are "me"! I.e. messages
to "Ian Print" are "personal" messages, and replies will be
from "Ian Print".
The packet will now be dearchived, and you should get another
dialog box.
Click on "Read Messages".
There will be 2 message areas displayed.
Click with the RIGHT mouse button on the "User to Sysop" line.
This will display a list of 9 messages - 6 to "you" and 3 to ALL.
Hit <Esc> to go back to the area list.
Click with the LEFT mouse button to display all the messages
in the "User to Sysop" area - 18 messages.
Hit <Esc> to go back to the area list.
Click with the RIGHT mouse button on the "Local Chat" line, to
get a list of 3 messages to ALL.
Click on the first message line (2nd line on the screen) to
display the first message.
Hit the <Clr Home> key (or "+") to display the 2nd message.
Hit the <Clr Home> key (or "+") to display the 3rd message.
Hit the <Clr Home> key (or "+") once more and you will hear
a "ding-a-ling-a-ling" sound to tell you you've gone off
the end of the list, and the 1st message will be displayed.
Hit the <Help> key to display a pop up help box.
Hit <Return> to get rid of it.
Hit the "Q" key (quoted reply) and you get a pop up box.
Hit <Return> and the editor will be invoked to edit your
reply - it will run it from the A disk, and takes a few
seconds to load up.
Waggle the mouse about a bit and/or use the cursor keys, and
do a bit of typing.
To save the reply...
Hit <F10>
Type "QS" and <Return>
Hit <Return> again
Hit <Esc>
You should now be displaying the message again.
Hit <Esc> twice to get back to the area list.
Click with the LEFT mouse button on the "User to Sysop" line to
get the list of 18 messages.
Click on the 6th message (subject = Re: Download service)
This message is a few pages long.
Hit the right and left arrow keys to scroll down and up by
one page.
Hit the down and up arrow keys to scroll down and up by
one line.
Hit the "R" key (unquoted reply)
When you get the pop up box, hit <Esc> to clear the "To:" field
and hit <Return>.
You should now get a list of users.
Click on "Captain Scarlet" and the name should appear in
the "To:" field in the box.
Hit <Return> to invoke the editor.
Your reply will not have any quotes from the message in it.
Save and exit by hitting <F10>, "QS", <Return>, <Return>, <Esc>.
You should now be displaying the long message once more.
Hit "N" to enter a new message - the pop up box will appear.
Hit <Esc> to clear the "ALL" from the "To:" field, and
type "*a" followed by <Return>
The "*a" should be replaced by "Arthur Dent".
Hit the down arrow key to get to the "Subject:" line and
type something as the subject, hit <Return> to invoke the editor.
Save and exit by hitting <F10>, "QS", <Return>, <Return>, <Esc>.
Hit "V" to view replies - there should be 3.
Click with the LEFT mouse button to re-edit a reply, and
save and exit by hitting <F10>, "QS", <Return>, <Return>, <Esc>.
Click with the RIGHT mouse button on a reply to bring up a
pop-up box.
Click on the "Private" button, then the "OK" button.
The reply list will now show a "*" character for the private
message.
Now move the mouse pointer to point at the 3rd reply and
hit the "D" key. A "*" character will appear at the left to
signal that it is marked for deletion.
Hit <Esc> to exit the reply list.
A pop-up box will appear - click on the "YES" button to
confirm the delete.
Hit "V" to view the replies again - there should now be only 2.
Hit <Esc> to exit the reply list.
Now hit "F" (find a string) and another box should appear.
Type "amail" and hit <Return>
You should get a box saying 4 messages have been found.
Hit <Return> to display the first - number 1.
Hit <Control-F> to display the next message with "amail" in, No. 3.
Hit <Control-F> to display the next message with "amail" in, No. 13.
Hit <Control-F> to display the next message with "amail" in, No. 14.
Hit <Control-F> and you should hear a "ding-a-ling-a-ling" to
indicate there are no more messages found, and it will go back to
the first one found, No. 1.
Hit "T" and you will return to displaying the message you were at
before doing the "find" - No. 6, the long message.
Hit "B" and it will jump to message number 15 - this is a bookmark
wich has been set in a previous session, and saved to disk.
Hit <Insert> (or -) to display the previous message, No. 14.
Hit "S" to save the current message - a file selector will
appear. Type a file name and hit <Return>.
Hit "A" to display a menu bar.
Select "Info about IMHO" from the "Desk" menu item to display
an information box. Click "OK" to get rid of it.
Select "Go Back" from the "Return" menu item to return to
the message display.
Now hit <Esc> 3 times to get back to the opened packet dialog.
Click on the "Enter New Message" button to bring up a list
of message areas.
Click on the "NeST Atari ST - General" area (line 5), to bring
up a box.
Hit the down arrow key, type a subject and hit <Return>.
You will now be in the editor once more.
This time quit without saving the reply... hit <F10>, type "QA",
<Return>, and <Esc>.
You should get a box saying the reply was unchanged by the editor
and will be deleted. Hit <Return> to continue.
Hit <Esc> to get back to the dialog screen.
Click on the "Load Reply Packet" button, this brings up a
file selector.
Double-click on KEITHPT.001, and wait for it to load them.
Now click on the "View Replies" button and there should be
7 replies listed.
Hit <Esc>
Click on the "Close Packet" button.
A box will appear asking if you want to save bookmarks - click
on whichever you like.
A box will appear telling you that you have outstanding replies.
Click on "YES" to create a reply packet - the archiver will be
invoked, and you will get a box saying reply packet 003 has been
created. Hit <Return>.
Click on the "QUIT" button to exit from IMHO now, and you
will return to the desktop.
