  4.  Good day and a sincerely warm welcome to "ST NEWS" Volume 9 Issue 1, the 
  5. first 1993 issue, the ninth Undead One an the 36th in total. As usual, it 
  6. was finished.  Sortof accidentally,  this event took place on March  11th 
  7. 1994,  the 42nd birthday of Douglas Adams,  and it was a doddle more than 
  8. ever.  This is the first multi-media issue of "ST NEWS",  which means you 
  9. will find more attention to films,  CDs, books and concerts this time. As 
  10. a  matter  of fact especially in the music department you may  find  some 
  11. really  hot  information.  Of course there are still a lot  of  computer-
  12. related things, as well as the usual amount of fiction.
  13.  I hope you'll enjoy reading this issue's contents and using the plethora 
  14. of programs that come with it.
  15.  Below you will find some more details concerning this issue (like how to 
  16. copy it and what's in it).

  50. hottest,  fastest,  most  powerful and almost ridiculously versatile  art 
  51. package ever to appear on an Atari. As a matter of fact, it seems that it 
  52. will fully justify purchasing a Falcon all on its own accord.

  58. tip on your favourite adventure that you've been stuck on ever since  the 
  59. week after you bought it? "ST NEWS" has offered solutions to almost *all* 
  60. ST adventures and quite an enormous lot of PC ones as well. You need look 
  61. no further;  check out the "Adventure Solutions Index". If your favourite 
  62. adventure's not in there then there's quite a chance it's not actually an 
  63. adventure.

  109.  I will be brief.  Just like the 35 prior issues,  "ST NEWS" is about  as 
  110. Public Domain as you can get.  Spread it,  copy it, sell it (CHEAP if you 
  111. will),  I don't mind. It is important that as many people as possible get 
  112. this issue,  so give it to a friend for his/her birthday!  In case you're 
  113. the owner of a Public Domain library,  you are much encouraged to include 
  114. it in that. I need NO royalties. This is NO licenseware.
  115.  The disk format is:

  118.  Sectors per track : 11

  121.  You  can  copy  it  with  just about  any  modern  disk  copier  (though 
  122. "FastCopy"  would  be a most excellent choice  (free  plug  there)).  And 
  123. anyway,  it's not *how* you copy it that's important, as long as you *do* 
  124. copy it, possible in the *largest* numbers!
  125.  Be  wise and steer clear of expensive PD libraries.  And please  send  a 
  126. donation now and again if you've enjoyed our efforts. I have received one 
  127. donation (hi Marinos!) in the last three years or something.

  130. = NOTES ABOUT COMPATIBILITY =============================================
  131.

  133. Atari (MEGA) ST(E): "ST NEWS" runs on all systems,  including those  with 
  134.                     512  Kb  memory  (though 1 Mb  minimum  is  advised). 
  135.                     Graphic cards are not supported. Please use medium or 
  136.                     high resolution.
  137. Atari TT          : "ST  NEWS" hasn't yet been tested on a TT but  should 
  138.                     work  when launched from either ST medium or ST  high 
  139.                     resolution.  Please bother to let me know of any  TT-
  140.                     related (in-)compatibilities.
  141. Atari Falcon 030  : "ST NEWS" runs smoothly from any 80-column VGA/RGB/TV 
  142.                     resolution  with  the exception of VGA  double  ON  2 
  143.                     colours  and TV/RGB none-interlaced 2 colours  (where 
  144.                     it will bomb). Any 40-column resolution (including ST 
  145.                     low  res compatibility mode) will cause all  GEM  and 
  146.                     VDI  draw commands to be limited to the left half  of 
  147.                     the screen. Also, the file selector needed to specify 
  148.                     an  ASCII/WP file to be written is  usually  coloured 
  149.                     wrongly  and drawn partly off the screen due  to  GEM 
  150.                     not being properly re-initialised. Any suggestions on 
  151.                     how to fix these problems?
  152.                     Keeping  [ALTERNATE]  pressed  during  booting  on  a 
  153.                     Falcon  with  VGA monitor connected  will  cause  the 
  154.                     program to use ST high resolution mode instead of  ST 
  155.                     medium  (among  other things,  this  slows  down  the 
  156.                     scroller).
  157.                     "ST  NEWS" hasn't been tested a on Falcon with  SM12x 
  158.                     monochrome monitor.
  159. MultiTOS          : "ST  NEWS"  will  not work  properly  with  MultiTOS. 
  160.                     Please disable it.
  161. Warp 9            : Exiting "ST NEWS" may freeze the system with "Warp 9" 
  162.                     active.   This  can  be  fixed  by  adding  the  line 
  163.                     "ST_NEWS.PRG s0" (turn screen accelerator off) in the 
  164.                     "WARP.DAT" automatic configuration file.
  165. BlowUp 030        : Exiting "ST NEWS" will cause a return to a  distorted 
  166.                     screen.   This   is  likely  to  happen   with   most 
  167.                     extended  screen resolution drivers.  Please  disable 
  168.                     them.
