  5.   This is one of a series of archives of Falcon Image Utilities from
  6.   SKWare One. If you have not downloaded those others listed here, you
  7.   may find all (or most) of them useful and/or entertaining.

  10.   These utility programs will display only on Falcon030. They will
  11.   function on ST/STe/MegaSTe/TT030, but without any display:
  12.  
  13.   XGA__TGA.LZH      Programs to convert XGA to TGA format and TGA to XGA,
  14.                     XGA and TGA viewer programs. ST/TT converters included.
  15.   IFF2XIMG.LZH      Converts Amiga 32-color (5-plane) IFF to 256-color
  16.                     XIMG. ST/TT version is included; display only on Falcon.
  17.   SPEC2XGA.LZH      Converts Spectrum (.SPU and .SPC) files to XGA TrueColor.
  18.                     An ST/TT version is included; display only on Falcon.

  21.   These utility programs will run and/or display ONLY on Falcon030.
  22.   They WILL NOT function on ST/STe/MegaSTe/TT030:

  24.   XGA2XIMG.LZH      6 sizes of TrueColor XGA's converted to 256-color XIMG.
  25.   RWL2XIMG.LZH      Converts Seymor-Radix IMG_Scan raw data files to 256-color
  26.                     XIMG. Sample file included. Excellent image quality.
  27.   CS__DEMO.LZH      Falcon030 TrueColor demo of COLORSCAN II. Converts scanned
  28.                     IMG files to colors and greys.
  29.   CSCANIMG.LZH      Mono IMG file for conversion by CS__DEMO.
  30.   SURATXGA.LZH      Seurat TrueColor image in XGA format.

  32.   RUNS ON ALL ATARI 680x0 PLATFORMS:

  34.   BITCAMRA.LZH      Enlarges, reduces and reproportions monochrome, 4-color,
  35.                     16-color, 256-color, and TrueColor images with remarkable
  36.                     speed and accuracy. Loads GEM IMG, STTT IMG, XIMG, and
  37.                     XGA images. (This a demo version; save is disabled.) May
  38.                     be used as viewer for conversions from programs above;
  39.                     runs on everything Atari except 8-bits...

  43.   IMFORMAT.LZH      Proposed SKWare One IMG format extensions.

  46.   This utility program does not display. It seems to run on Falcon030,
  47.   but it has not been tested extensively in all resolutions. It has been
  48.   tested thoroughly on ST/STe/MegaSTe/TT030 in the three ST(e) resolutions.
  49.   It qualifies as a Falcon utility only in the sense that its conversions
  50.   include many file types that may prove useful in Falcon operations.

  52.   XPORTIMG.LZH      Converts 4-plane (16-color) STTT GEM IMG format files
  53.                     (and XIMG, too!) to a variety of file types: Amiga
  54.                     5-plane .IFF, TrueColor .XGA, Targa24 .TGA, XIMG .IMG,
  55.                     PrismPaint .PNT, and Aldus TIFF (Rev. 6.0 of 6/2/92).

  59.   IMG2CIMG.PRG:
  60.   
  61.           The IMG2IMG.PRG converts monoplane (plain old black'n'white) GEM
  62.   IMG files into GEM color .IMG files (in STTT format as loaded by SEURAT
  63.   or XIMG files) with the same pixel dimensions.  These converted files
  64.   are multi-plane images, however, and now allow for the additional
  65.   available colors to be added to the image. 
  66.           You have the option to convert the monoplane image to two planes
  67.   (STe Medium rez), four planes (STe Low or TT Medium rez) or eight planes
  68.   (Falcon 256-color video modes).  As this color IMG file is saved only
  69.   "uncompressed" (bit-stream mode), the converted file can be sizeable;
  70.   the writing routine will abort the file-save if it runs out of disk
  71.   room. 
  72.           A monochrome screen (640 by 400 pixels, 32000-byte raster)
  73.   becomes, when converted to four-planes, also 640 by 400 pixels, but now
  74.   with a 128000-byte raster, in which only white and black are used and
  75.   fourteen other colors remain to be set and can be used to fill areas,
  76.   shade, texture and further detail the image.  In 256-color mode, you
  77.   have even more additional colors available!
  78.           Obviously, the most simple use of these images occurs when the
  79.   monoplane original is a line or outline drawing and the resulting color
  80.   image is merely colored by flat areas, leaving the lines and outlines in
  81.   black, producing something very much like comic-book or animation art. 
  82.           Another use would be to convert a 320 by 200 monoplane image to
  83.   a STe Low rez screen (or a 640 by 400 mono image to a TT Medium screen)
  84.   for cel-type animation projects. 
  85.           However, once color areas are established, the black outlines
  86.   can themselves be converted to colors and more elaborate techniques used
  87.   to further refine the color image. 
  88.           And, I have no doubt, many SEURAT users will find applications
  89.   for these files that I never anticipated!
