NOTE: Blox requires a color monitor and a double-sided floppy or
hard drive to run. If you don't have the requisite hardware,
trying to run the program will only cause you grief!
How to Unpack Blox
------------------
Follow these instructions carefully and you will have no trouble
installing the game. Even if you think you know what you're doing
READ THIS FILE.
What you've got
---------------
This archive should contain the following files:
PART1OF4.TOS Self-extracting archive 1 of 4
PART2OF4.TOS Self-extracting archive 2 of 4
PART3OF4.TOS Self-extracting archive 3 of 4
PART4OF4.TOS Self-extracting archive 4 of 4
README.NOW This file
---------------
IMPORTANT NOTE:
---------------
When extracting the archives, make sure you have enough free space.
For reasons beyond my control, both ARC and the self-extracting archives
will sometimes not report errors if they run out of disk space. If after
you extract the files the configuration program reports 0 length files,
free up some disk space and extract the game again. In particular, if you
have a floppy drive and no hard drive, be sure to follow the installation
instructions carefully; forgetting to delete a file will very likely cause
the extraction to fail. Blox is a big game, but I've put a lot of work
into trying to make installation as foolproof as possible.
Before installing Blox be sure to make a backup of the BLOX.ARC file.
Do this so that if the installation doesn't work for some reason you
can try again without having to download the archive again.
Hard Drive Instructions:
-----------------------
If you have a hard drive, put all the self-extracting archives (.TOS files)
in a folder called BLOX. Make sure you have at least 650K free in the
BLOX directory (with the .TOS files in there), then run PART1OF4.TOS through
PART4OF4.TOS in succession. The self-extracting archives will create
directories for you. Once you've extracted all four parts, delete the .TOS
files and you're ready to play Blox!
(Be sure to read the section General Info below.)
Double-Sided Floppy Drive Only:
------------------------------
If you do not have a hard drive, format a double-sided disk (the
standard 9 sectors and 80 tracks is fine) and copy PART1OF4.TOS
through PART4OF4.TOS onto it. Make sure NO OTHER FILES are on
the disk, otherwise Blox won't fit.
Run each self-extracting archive in turn. It'll create all files
and subdirectories for you. Once you've extracted all four parts,
delete the .TOS files and you're ready to play Blox!
(Be sure to read the section General Info below.)
General Info
------------
Once you've extracted Blox, you'll need to configure your copy by running
CONFIG.PRG. This program will inspect your directory tree and tell you
if any files are missing or the wrong size. If everything is in order,
you can then set your Blox defaults.
If you will be uploading the game to another place, BE SURE TO KEEP
THE ORIGINAL .ARC FILE YOU DOWNLOADED. Don't try to create your
own archive file. If you create your own "ARC" or "ZOO" file you will
very likely make the game impossible to install on a floppy system, and
besides that it'll take forever to archive all the data. Please upload
only the .ARC file you downloaded.
Please don't forget to read the documentation in readme.doc. It explains
Blox and the shareware policy.
Have fun!
