  1. Why STyle?
  2.  
  3. Zocra Technologies has two products, STipple and STyle. Both STipple and
  4. STyle perform image file viewing, manipulation and filetype conversion.
  5. So what's the difference between them and which one do I need?
  6.  
  7. STipple
  8. STipple is intended for image file viewing and simple filetype
  9. conversion. All images loaded into STipple are translated into the
  10. current resolution. The resulting image can then be scaled and clipped
  11. before saving. STipple also provides a straight file translation
  12. facility which converts filetypes without changing the image's size or
  13. number of colours.
  14. STipple is $29.95 US.

  16. STyle
  17. STyle is intended for image file manipulation, conversion and file
  18. viewing. All images loaded into STyle are stored without converting them
  19. to the current resolution. On screen versions of the images (at the
  20. current resolution) are also created for display purposes. The image can
  21. be manipulated (scaled, sharpened, smoothed, clipped) and saved without
  22. changing the image's size or number of colours. The image can also be
  23. rendered at any resolution or number of colours (the transformation
  24. STipple automatically applies). Unlike STipple, the on screen displays
  25. are created with a bias for speed, not quality. Quality resolution
  26. conversion is performed with the "render" command.
  27. STyle is $35.95 US.

  29. STipple or STyle?
  30. If you want to view image files, manipulate and save the converted image
  31. (converted to the current resolution), and simply convert graphic
  32. filetypes STipple is for you.

  34. If you want to manipulate images before they are converted to another
  35. resolution, if you want more powerful manipulation commands, and if you
  36. want complete control over the conversion process STyle is for you.

  38. STyle Example #1
  39. Using STyle (in any resolution) you can
  40.      +    load a 256 colour image
  41.      +    clip out a section of the image
  42.      +    scale the image
  43.      +    render the image in 16 colours using colour dither
  44.      +    save the image.

  47. Using STyle (in any resolution) you can
  48.     +    load a 256 colour image
  49.     +    clip out a section of the image
  50.     +    convert the colour image to a grayscale image
  51.     +    scale the image
  52.     +    increase the image constrast
  53.     +    render the image in monochrome using a mono dither
  54.     +    save the image.

  56. Do STipple and STyle support the same filetypes?
  57. No. STyle supports more filetypes than STipple. The next release of
  58. STipple should add the additional filetypes found in STyle. The
  59. only filetype that STipple uses that STyle does not is Spectrum 512.
