VoteMGR-ST User Instructions
--------------------------------------------------
Votemgr is a program that allows you to send NETMail
ballots to systems holding one or more votings. Votemgr is
much like areafix, filefix, areamgr, raid or other
mail-interactive programs. These programs will receive and
process NETMail messages from users, saving a lot of work to
SysOps.
This is what you have to do in order to "vote" using
votemgr: there are three basic procedures you will probably
want to follow before you send your ballot:
o First of all, you must know what is the name of the
active elections held at one node, and for which you
are validated to vote. You do this by writing a
NETMail message addressed to votemgr at the address
of the node holding the voting, writing "%LIST" in
the Subj: field. Optional you always are allowed to use
"%HOLD" on the Subj: field. The votingsystem will put
the result on hold for you. You will have to poll the
votingsystem again!

| To : votemgr on 2:283/705.0
| Subj: %LIST [%HOLD]
| ----------------------------------------------
| ---
NOTE: tearline is needed since some systems kill
empty received messages!
Votemgr will, in return, send you a LIST of active
votings held at this system, like this:
| From: VoteMgr-ST on 2:283/705.0
| To : Harrie Beuvink on 2:283/705.1
| Subj: re: %LIST [%HOLD]
| ------------------------------------------
|
| Hello Harrie,
|
| This is the list of active votings held at this system.
|
| Those flagged with (*) will be votes for which you can
| vote if the voting-period is active and if you are allowed
| to vote.
|
| Those flagged with (+) will be votes for which you can
| make more than one choice for that vote.
|
| sysop from 10.05.1993 until 30.05.1994 (votingperiod active)
| * party from 12.05.1993 until 13.06.1993
| + * newfiles from 28.12.1993 until 31.01.1994 (votingperiod active)
|
Please, note that some votes will allow you to make more then
one choice!
o Second, and now you know what the name of the active
election is, you need to know what the choices are.
You do this by writing a NETMail message addressed
to votemgr at the address of the node holding the
voting, writing the name of the selected voting in
the Subj: field and "%LIST" in the message text:
| ----------------------------------------------
| From: Harrie Beuvink on 2:283/705.1
| To : votemgr on 2:283/705.0
| Subj: DECIDE [%HOLD]
| ----------------------------------------------
| %LIST
Votemgr will, in return, send you a LIST of valid
choices for the election "DECIDE" held at this
system.
o And third, now you know what the choices are, you can
send your ballot. You do this by writing a NETMail
message addressed to Votemgr at the address of the
node holding the voting, writing the name of the
selected voting in the Subj: field.
+--------------------------------------------------------+
| VoteMgr-ST can handle TWO kinds of votings. Single and |
| multiple votes. The system who is responsible for the |
| vote will inform you what kind of voting will be used! |
| You also can ask VoteMgr for this information by |
| writing a message to VoteMgr. (see ABOVE!) |
+--------------------------------------------------------+
1. If a vote is a "single vote" (NO '+' sign in the voting
list) than you must vote as follows:
The ballot string has the syntax:
"<your choice> !<your signature>".

| To : votemgr on 2:283/705.0
| Subj: DECIDE [%HOLD]

2. If a vote is a "multiple vote" (A '+' sign in the voting
list) than you must vote as follows:
The ballot string has the syntax:
"!<your signature>"
"<keyword> <your choice>"
...
"<keyword> <your choice>"

| treasurer Tirs Abril
Votemgr will, in return, send you a message
informing of possible errors or notifying correct
ballot processing.
NOTE: your signature is a string that will be
displayed together with results, so you know
your ballot has been in fact processed.
o Last, but not least, maybe you want to know wat the results
are until so far? Well, just write a NETMail message
addressed to Votemgr at the address of the node holding
the voting, writing the name of the selected voting in
the Subj: field.
In the messagetext you place %REPORT and votemgr-st will
return you a report of the vote.
