This document is updated for Version 7.0 and Above!
Version 7.0 is now available and supports 64 Bases , 64 File areas,
4.2 Billion Messages and quite a few touch ups. So if you are using
PRE - V7.0 that mentions 32 (Bits, Bases, Sigs, etc..) it is actually 64!
UPDATING FROM VERSION 6.2 Or Earlier:
=====================================
If You are running any version prior to Version 7.0, you need to run
CONVERT.PRG (Which is TRIPEDIT V.6.1 or 6.2) FIRST!!!!
Alot of things have changed quite a bit and the older TRIPDATA.DAT and
TRIPUSER.DAT are smaller and dont support the FILE SETS and many other
things.
I hate DOCS! I'm A ProgrammeR Not A WriteR:
(You can use TRIPBBS or BBS or whatever you want)
CREATE A TRIPBBS Directory and place TEDITPRO.PRG/TLINKXX.PRG Inside of it!
RUN TEDITPRO.PRG Answer a few basic questions or just hit return.
Copy All The Files in TRIPMENU.LZH into the TRIPMENU Directory
Copy All The Files in TRIPDATA.LZH into the TRIPDATA Directory
Copy All The Files in BUSS_ADS.LZH into the BUSS_ADS Directory
PLACE ANY *.TTP's, *.PRG, *.DOC, in your TRIPBBS DIRECTORY
RUN TLINKXX.PRG
Done!
This May take a whole 10 minutes.
TripLinK! Updates its own DocS , LZH's Itself, Runs ISIS, helps program and
track down problems using most any program within reach if not written
by me. So that must say something for it. It would be hell for me to
manage this if TLINK wasn't around.

=====================================================================
* * * Welcome to TripLinK!! Version 7.1 * * *
FEDBBS - FronT End DevelopmenT Bulletin Board System
This is NOT just a BBS it will help in alot of ways! You don't even
have to have people calling to run this! This is a Complete Front End System
Manager for your ST Computer.
TripLinK!! first started as an Online RPG game, while developing the
game many others possibilities cropped up. So in less than a year later and
15,300+ lines of code, TripLinK! had taken a whole new shape and direction.
As A Sysop, I ran and tested many different BBS types, FoReM!,
Express, StarNeT, MichtroN (single and multi line), and anything else I
could get my hands on. What I did notice about these BBS programs is that
they lacked features to allow you to do other things while you had the
BBS running. For instance, Call Tempus , Call Interlink , drop into Chat
while i'm on the FEDBBS and users call in. The ability to call there house
and log them on without having them call back if needed, access to Drop Down
Menus and Accessories as much as possible, and A Decent DOS BackDrop with
Extended Sysop Commands. Not only that but I wanted something that would
help me manage my files, Calls Out, Unarcing, UnLzhing, Unzipping Files,
search for certain words in files, or for a certain File(s) itself.
Especially one that was easy to just start up that didnt make me feel like
im launching a nuclear power plant with problems before i even get to see
anything in action.
So as time went on and with alot of testing on different ST/STE
models and many, many, late nights of programming, here I am. I could go
on forever adding and improving but I wanna see if its worth the trouble
also.
SURGEON GENERALS WARNING: THIS FEDBBS MAY BE ADDICTING AND CONTIANS A VERY
SIMPLISTIC COMPLEX THEORY THAT MAY JAR YOUR BRAIN.
Triplink is being released as shareware in hopes that you will register
the product. TripLinK! is NOT FREE. The Registration Form is at the Bottom
of this DOC. You MUST send it completed with a DISK and a SELF ADDRESSED
STAMPED ENVELOPE. When you need an update that you cant download or find,
just send me a DISK and S.A.S.E so I can return the latest version.
==================== This I'snt Atari Or Microsoft =====================
I support my FEDBBS well and if you dont call me or leave me Email
or the like then how can I help you if you have problems? Most any program
I have I have wanted to contact the guy that wrote it and i cant, its like
there god or something, pisses me off.. You can call me anytime , I'm there
or TripLink! will be.
I not only support the FEDBBS but I have been programming for quite some
time and I like talking to anyone that is into GFA , BBSs, or even new
people that wanna know more about this crazy world of BBSing.. Ive helped
I don't know how many people and I can always learn new things to..
=========================== TOS 1.0 WARNING! ============================
#1) DO NOT HAVE 100+ FILES OR MORE IN ANY SINGLE DIRECTORY!!!!!!!
( UNLESS YOU ARE RUNNING A VERSION OF TOS THAT SUPPORTS IT!)
#2) USE EXFOLDER.PRG in your AUTO folder if you have more than 40 FOLDERS.
TOS has an old myth that seems to be true. 40 Folders or More start
causing errors like : OUT OF MEMORY etc... I mean 40 Folders TOTAL not
for a single drive or partition.
Running MINI_MAG In TripLinK! will tell you the number of Folders and
Files you have on your system starting from Drive C:, so this will help
you find out right away if you have exceded 40 folders. This can be done
from the Drop Down Menus , Control-S, Q, Work so if you wanna stop things
to take a look at whats going on do so..
================= MAIN MENU OPTIONS ( After Logging On )
*** The First Files you want to change are CONNECT.XXX, SYSNEWS.XXX,
LOGOFF.XXX, WELCOME.XXX, to best fit your needs. SEE MENUFORM.DOC
*** Pressing the LEFT MOUSE can make up for RETURNS/EXITS in alot
of places. For Instance Reading Forward in Message Bases, Press Return
To Continue, Listing More Files in Catalog or Browse, ETC..
*** Look at the SECRET.DOC!!!!
*** You can hit the LEFT MOUSE for Dropdown menus while in MAIN MENU ***
*** You can hit the RIGHT MOUSE for TinyTerM! **
*** You can hit the HELP key for the Lower Status Line *
*** You can hit the SHIFT-F10 To Drop Carrier on a User at most any place *
*** F10 will bail to the Desktop frm Main Menu, and Waitcall Screen.
Pressing help while on the FEDBBS will bring up a status line on the
bottom and will show you the Keys you can use to get around. Please do this
at least to see what's available. Do this from the MAIN MENU after logging
on the system.
================= SYSOP NAME
The SYSOPNAME in Tripedit is where All Email and Feedback will go so it
must match your handle as Sysop. So if you change SYSOPNAME=WIZOP, then your
handle must be WIZOP or else you wont get email, Feedback etc..
====== CALLING TRIPEDIT [From Drop Down Or type TRIPEDIT in POS Mode ]
TripEdiT! is very important to TripLinK! It can change alot of things
needed for operation. There are different ways to call it:
** MAJOR CHANGES REQUIRE TEDITPRO.PRG, CALL IT FROM THE DROPDOWN MENU
1) Press ESC from the wait Call screen. The one that comes up waiting for
a caller
2) While on the BBS you can press "\" and only the sysop can do this.
3) type TRIPEDIT while logged on the FEDBBS in POS Mode.
4) Select TEDITPRO.PRG from the dropdown Menu.
** After making changes in TripEdiT option #1, make SURE YOU type [U]pdate
if you made any changes in that menu, or they will be discarded.
========= LOG FILES [ TRIPBBS.LOG - FEDBBS, TELECOMM.LOG - TinyTerM! ]
There are 2 LOG files that TripLinK!! creates and maintains. One is
called TRIPBBS.LOG and it logs transactions on the board so you can look
through it for errors, problems , who downloaded/uploaded what, what games
the user launched (helps find out if an online game keeps bombing), and
whose called when and from where. It also helps to show if Menus are missing,
Text Files Missing, Programs being launched aren't there, or just a user
who got booted off due to invalid Password/handle.
The other is called TELECOMM.LOG which is a buffer that you can turn
On/Off in TinyTerM! and ChaT! so you can capture things you wanna keep or
just to read through later. You should kill LOG files if they get to big
or if you read through them and you don't need them anymore.
================= MODEM RESET FILE
* The File RESET.MDM Must be in the Dir with TLINKXX.PRG!, That is if you
need it, the FEDBBS works without it on many systems. People With High
Speed modems should use a RESET.MDM Files, SERFX20.PRG (SERIAL FIX).
There is a file called RESET.MDM that can be added to the FEDBBS
so it resets your modem the way it needs to be set. I have a Hyundai 2400
and don't use a RESET.MDM so you may not either cause its Hayes compatible
and the BBS will send its own Reboot Modem strings. If this is a problem
then just make your own RESET.MDM file and go by trial and error to fit
your type of modem. The file would start like this to give you an idea:
This is the default if there is no RESET.MDM File, or you can save these
out as RESET.MDM and start changing stuff all you want to get things
working right:
THIS IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE:
AT&F
ATZ
ATH0 &C1 &D3 &K3 &Q5 \N3
ATV1 X4 M0 S0=0 S1=0
AT&W
You can have either single lines or Multiple ones , i don't really matter.
Whatever you want and works to the manufacturers specs should work in the
RESET.MDM file so its up to you to work this out if TripLinK!! don't work
without this file.
=============== HLP,ANS,IG,VT2 files [ TRIPMENU FOLDER ]
*** AGAIN! READ THE MENUFORM.DOC RIGHT NOW!!!
>>>>>>>>> ALL MENUS MUST HAVE AT LEAST THE *.HLP FILE!!!!!!!
*.ANS, *.IG , *.VT2 can be placed in a folder called ALTMENUS inside the
FEDBBS dir now so TRIPMENU dont get to cluttered, I keep my *.HLP and *.VT2
in TRIPMENU and moved *.IG, *.ANS to ALTMENUS.
There can be 4 different Menus for EACH menu. 1 for IG Users, 1 For ANSI
Users, 1 for VT52 Users, and the most important one, the *.HLP basic Menu.
>>>>>>>>> ALL MENUS MUST HAVE AT LEAST THE *.HLP FILE!!!!!!!
I will include the program to convert VT52 (*.VT2) to ANSI to help out. As
for IG Menus its up to you and I may include a few but I would like to leave
it to the creative IG artist to deal with that.
Example: MAINMENU.HLP MAINMENU.ANS MAINMENU.IG MAINMENU.VT2
READ MENUFORM.DOC! or Youll be wish you did later..
I have added some new things to the menus so here they are and
more to follow. These changes (to this date 8-22-91) are pretty helpful
at times and they should be added at the beginning of a MENU or any file
that is called as a menu, BBSLIST, NOTICES etc.. no matter what extension is
used: *.ANS *.HLP *.IG *.HLP
** Option 1-8 from the main menu can now view different files. The
names are OPTION(1-8).HLP,ANS,IG,VT2. If these option files are not
found then option 1 will look for WELCOME.XXX, option 2 will look for
NOTICE.XXX, and 3 will look for MISCDOCS.DOC. So this will allow you
to change or add your own Option 1-8 from the MAINMENU.XXX files.
Menu commands ( Inside of any Menu ):
NOABORT> <- No aborting of menu, only ^Q ^S will work, not ^C (1ST LINE only)
SHOW> <- Shows this text file and continues
RUN> <- Launches this file then returns where it left off
CLS> <- CLears the screen
HALT> <- Halts the file and diplays: " [X]exits, Press enter to Continue "
BUSSAD> <- Display a Bussiness Ad (YOU MUST READ ABOUT BUSINESS ADS BELOW)
POSCMD> <- Run Any of the Commands you can in the POS(Sysop) Mode
TTP> <- Launchs a TTP Program and Passes Parameters to it.
MAINMENU> <- This is currently in testing
OPEN_O> <- Opens a File a sends Data To it
Examples of Commands you can use in your HLP,ANS,VT2,IG Files:

=================== VALIDATING/UPDATING CALLERS =========================
If you don't want to Hassle with this, Just set Your VISITOR Record up as
the Main Profile All Users will be set to when they log on. So while you
quickscan for New Users you will Just type V (Validate), then A (AS IS)...
The validation structure under TlinK! has changed. At first it seems
to be a hassle but after you get used to it you will find its quite a bit
more powerful than any previos version. Before you used to just press V to
validate users and all it did was set the user to New User Status.
Things have changed, Now when a New User logs on they are set to VISITOR
status, in which you can now change from Tlink. There are 2 pre-defined
set-ups in Tlink like Express has. 1 is VISITOR for those people who just
log on or have just visited your BBS, the Other is NEW USER.
Now I have a 3rd option AS IS, AS IS will take a user at the current
profile and Validate them AS IS, wether they are at New User , Visitor, or
anything else. SO, this is how it goes.. First a new user calls, User is
set to VISITOR, You then Validate as New User, Visitor , OR Duplicate
any other user profile you want. After you do that then Validate AS IS will
keep the users profile as is and Validate thems so they won't be found next
time you scna for New Users.
When you scan for New Users, it scans for both New Users / Visitors, until
you Validate them. This way you can hold people that you are not very
sure about. I will include this in TRIP.DOC so you can trash it. For those
that need a little more info keep reading.. I set my Visitor up as normal
access with a few things limited, I set my New User up with more access so
log on myself and lets say I am User 150, and he has HIGH Access , then
when I validate a new person that is someone I know I can validate them to
User 150 Access. All the Access levels / Time Per Call / Time Per Day /
Dloads etc.. are copied to the New Persons Profile. Now as normal operation
for validation I Just type VNVA (Validate as New User , Validate As Is)...
Got it. I do this for all people that call unless I Y (delete) them... Its
pretty quick and I can go through quite a Few People.
===================== MULTI-MENUs [ \TRIPMENU Files ] ====================
READ MENUFORM.DOC! or Youll be wish you did later..
There are various menus that will allow you to have multiple menus.
These are available as of now:
CONNECT.HLP,ANS,VT2,IG can have up to 5 others. So you could have like
CONNECT1.HLP to CONNECT5.HLP and when they log on it will display at random
any of these menus. If it cannot find CONNECT1.HLP to CONNECT5.HLP it will
default to CONNECT.HLP so you must have at least CONNECT.HLP.
SYSNEWS.HLP, you can have up to 3 of these. The FEDBBS will look for
these sequentially starting at SYSNEWS.HLP. If you have like SYSNEWS1.HLP
and SYSNEWS3.HLP, it would show them these Menus. From the Lowest to the
highest. You must have at least SYSNEWS.HLP then you can add (SYSNEWS1.HLP to
SYSNEWS5.HLP). You can delete them when you don't want it to be used anymore.
These will all be viewed sequentially when option V is Used from the main
menu.
================= Message Bases =================
All Message Bases are in the Folder Called ..\TLINK64\
TripLinK! can handle a total of 64 Message bases. Message Base 64
is always considered the Email Message Base. Base 1 - 31 are always open
for the sysop to add to the System. Descriptions for each message base can
be found in BASEDESC.HLP file contained in your TRIPMENU directory. This
way every message base can have a description about itself. As SysOp you
can control what each user can do within each base by using TripEdit. Please
see the section About ACCESS LEVELS.
POST ACCESS-BIT 64 (EMAIL) Now works like it should , you lock out Email from
being sent to you and tells the User to Send it to an Appropraite Message
Base. I get alot of Email Regarding Tlink! that should be sent to the Support
Base so Others can help as well if they can. And when I reply in Email to a
TLINK! Problem , then only that one person Benefits..When Postacc(64)Bit is
set to 0(OFF) they can still Recieve Email, but not Send it..
Extended Messages: (When a Message is Larger than a normal Message)
When a user enters a message that is longer than the Message size
(in Bytes) for any given Message , it is called an Extended Message. an
Extended Message is written to a directory called XMESSAGE. An Extended
Message is limited to Available Disk Space so they can be Huge!
When you get this error Message for Extended Messages this is what it means :
MISSING EXTENDED MESSAGE: C:\BBS\XMESSAGE\M523.B11 | BASEMSG #2
M(XXXXX).B(ZZ) -> XXXXX=SYSTEM MESSAGE#, ZZ=BASE AREA#
BASEMSG #(X) : is the actual message number in the base.
So for this example to hunt down the message , its In Message Base #11
Message #2, And it is System Message #523.
** To edit linked File Areas to Message Bases use TripEdiT! from the
DropDown Menu not from POS mode.
================= File Areas [ POS Mode - see EDITFILES, LINKPATH ]
** Anytime A File Area is added to TLINK! and you enter it for the
first time. It will check to see if there is a description (DESC> folder for
the FileArea, if not it will create a DESC folder for you.
TripLinK! can handle 64 File areas linked to the FEDBBS. If you are new
to the FEDBBS and need to add more File Areas you should get into POS Mode($)
and look at Help for EDITFILES, and LINKPATH. Once a File area is added to the
FEDBBS you can control what each user can do within each File Area. File areas
can be linked to message bases also.
Also, while in POS(Sysop) Mode and lets say you are at C:\BBS\WILD\..
to add this directory to the File Areas all you have to do is type LINKPATH.
After you have typed that in it will add that directory as the last file to
the File Area Listing with the Name being set to the PathName. From there you
just add a DESC Folder to that directory so is will be C:\BBS\WILD\DESC\.
TLINK will create a Desc Folder if its missing when you switch to that file
area.
While in POS Mode you can type EDITFILES and Add, Delete, or change
any File area in the system. Editfiles can also be called from the drop down
menus as well.
FILEDESC.HLP is a file That displays before Selecting which File Area
to move into. This gives you a place to place any info to your user you want.
* You can direct all new Uploads to a specific Folder. To do this set the
the path in TRIPEDIT OPTION "S" and youll see where to set it up in there.
* FILE AREAS must have a DESC FOLDER in them to use Descriptions!!!!!!! *
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
For example, if you have a folder called F:\STUTILS\ you should have a
a folder inside it called DESC so it looks like this: C:\STUTILS\DESC\
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
* YOU MUST HAVE XYZ.TTP ALSO!!!!!!! for Uploading/Downloading *
* YOU MUST HAVE SERFX20.PRG loaded for RTS/CTS High Speed Modems.
* Check out SETPATHS in TRIPEDIT ,Option "S" From The Main Menu *
====================== USING ARC / LZH / ZIP ========================
ARC/LZH/ZIP TTP Files are only needed for Extraction. TripLinK!! has
Verbose for each built into the FEDBBS. Another reason to have them hanging
around is so you can call them and pass your own parameters to them when you
are in POS Mode.
You can block users from downloading ARC/LZH/ZIP/ZOO files if you
are running the system with compressed files and you want them to have access
to only the Files contained inside of the Compressed Files. For instance if
you have a Compressed file with 90 recipes and you are running a system that
is Pay Based and you don't want them grabbing full Compressed files with all
the little files in it, then they are forced to Extract files out of them and
then goto OF the EXTRACT directory and grab them a few at a time. It also
keeps a better count of the actual files they have downloaded. This Block can
be set to ANY File Area and DOES NOT EFFECT NON Compressed files so they can
Download anything else with the ARC/LZH/ZIP and ZOO extension. Every User has
there own bits that you control in the CHANGE ACCESS BITS Menu.
EXTRACT FILES : Go inside of TRIPEDIT OPTION #1, then go into the SET
PATHS option, where you will find a path to place all EXTRACTED Files. So if
it says C:\WORKFILE\ then thats where they will go. You should assign a
FILE AREA to this FOLDER so then you and the User can switch to it like any
other File Area and Download Any Extracted Files.
============= POS(Sysop) Mode [ Press $ from the Main Menu ] ===========
POS = PhanToM OperatTinG SysTeM
POS mode has many features that come in handy while adding to the
FEDBBS or just maintaining what you already have. It also allows you to do many
other things that may be needed on the Fly. For Example : Passing Parameters
to *.TTP, EXECing programs(running them), and much more. When you need to
see the Commands available in POS Mode, you type ?. When ? is typed it
will list both the sysop command and a number next to it. If a number is
typed then it will display Info about that command. To Exit POS Mode you
type X.
While in POS Mode you should get ample help to get you around the
FEDBBS. As sysop when in POS Mode TRIPEDIT will be the program you want
to get to know well, So examine it carefully. Also the reason these docs
are not filled with alot of command descriptions is because the help is in
POS Mode, along with Menus, and Status Lines that will help.
*** You can Click the LEFT MOUSE for Dropdown Menus while in POS Mode ***
================ DropDown Menus [ LEFT MOUSE BUTTON from MAIN MENU ]
DropDown menus seem to be hanging around here all time. They
are available in ChaT, TinyTerM, WaitCall ScreeN, POS Mode, and While in
the FEDBBS itself. The advantage of this is that there is no need to exit the
FEDBBS when calling commonly used programs while on the FEDBBS. The Dropdown
menus can call 20 programs of your choice aside from the available options
that are built in to TripLinK!. The programs to be launched from the Drop
down menus are contained in the MENU(X).DAT. By changing lines in the
MENU(X).DAT File, changes what the options do on the Dropdown Menus.
Any changes to MENU(X).DAT can be loaded in by choosing the Reload
MENU(1).DAT choice from the dropdown menus. I use Tempus alot to change this
file. Also, There can be 9 different MENU(X).DAT files for a total of 180
different programs or 9 set of 20 programs that is. The (X) is a number from
1 to 9 like: MENU1.DAT, MENU2.DAT etc..
* If you Reload a Menu(X).Dat File , Exit the DropDowns, then Re-Enter them
so it Updates the DropDown's immediately.
This is an Example MEUN1.DAT File:

============== TripHooKs! ( Under TRIPEDIT in TripLinK! or "\" Mainmenu)
TripHooKs! are global switches to turn things ON/OFF on the FEDBBS.
Example: Show File Paths In File Areas : YES . In this case it would
show the PathName of the File area like G:\STUTILS\ to the user when in
the catalog Mode on the system, if NO it wont show anything. All the Hooks
will be pretty much self explanitory and more Hooks will be added from the
suggestions I get from other TLink! sysops. I will add hooks by priority
and suggestions from people, Not because someone thinks they need one that
most others wont use, HooKs! benefits us all. If youre running 4.0 for the
first time then check them over. The HooK EdiToR is in TRIPEDIT, you can
call it by Hitting ESCAPE on the Waiting For Call Screen, or "\" while on
on the FEDBBS, and it is the last option , so check them out before you start
running TLinK!
The First HooK! is to NOT ALLOW USERS TO LOGON, when this is the case it
will display TRIPLOCK.HLP to the User when they call to tell them the
system is LOCKED.. Dont forget this function , a simple YES will not let
anyone in to the System.. But it never fails and ill be getting calls
saying it wont let people on and you have been warned!.....
As of now Version 7.0 These are the current Switches : (ON/OFF)
[A] Activate TripLocK! On, Users CaNNoT Log On
[B] LOG All Menu Transactions To The TRIPBBS.LOG
[C] Show NEWFILES In Catalog Mode(YES),BrowsE(NO)
[D] Show Folder PathNamEs In File Areas To UserS
[E] ReseT Colors Before Launching GameS
[F] Run TNETHOUR.HLP Hourly (version 5.0 ONLY)
[G] BackUp SysTeM Files After New User LogS On
[H] Allow Users To Access TripLinK!s File SET #2
================ Online Games [ Option "O" From Main Menu ]
If you do not want games or don't have any, then Edit The File
called GAMES.DAT in the TRIPDATA Folder, and set the Nuber in the First
Line To 0. GAMES.HLP Is in the TRIPMENU.
Every user profile also has a Game Access Level. That users Game
Access Level is Compared against the Access Level of the Game (Each Game Has
An Access Level associated with it within in the GAMES.DAT File in the Folder
called TRIPDATA), if the Users Games Access Level is lower or equal to the
Games Access Level then the user can play the Game.
You can have as many as 32 Online Games on the FEDBBS. To set up new
Games you need to read 2 files, GAMES.DAT, and GAMES.HLP. GAMES.DAT has info
contained in the file to give you the structure of calling games. GAMES.HLP
is a File that displays the available games to the user when they choose
O from the main menu. When adding or deleting games from the GAMES.DAT you
must delete or add that file description from the GAMES.HLP. GAMES.HLP must
be in TRIPMENU folder, while the GAMES.DAT belongs in your TRIPDATA Folder.
ALL *.DAT files go into the TRIPDATA Folder, EXCEPT TRIPUSER.DAT, and the
TRIPDATA.DAT, they MUST BE IN THE BBS ROOT Directory. ie.(C:\TRIPBBS\..)
=========================================================================
GAMES.HLP is the Menu you must update to reflect these Programs.
This is The Structure of The GAMES.DAT in TRIPDATA Folder:
----------------------------------------------------------
1 <-- (0=NO GAMES) This is the MAXIMUM NUMBER OF Games * FIRST LINE *
------------------------------ These Dashes Seprate Each Game
#1) Short description Of the Game
#2) Minimum Access User must have to Play that Game (1-64 in there Profile)
#3) File To Display Before Entering Game. NONE = NO FILE TO DISPLAY
#4) Path & Filename of Game To LAUNCH . PRG, TOS, Or TTP (see next line)
#5) PARAMETERS To Pass To The Program On line 4 IF its a *.TTP,PRG,TOS!
#6) File To Display After Exiting The Game. NONE = NO FILE TO DISPLAY
------------------------------ These Dashes Seperate Each Game
* MANY TOS,PRG's DO NOT TAKE PARAMETERS , YOU HAVE TO TEST THEM
Note For #5: If its a FOREM game that requires LOCAL to work on the console
you can put LOCAL there, when noone is online it will pass LOCAL to it,Also
heres another Example For this line (MUST BE A TTP FILE ON LINE #4!!!):
LOCAL HANDLE TIMELEFT <--- LOCAL will be stripped and the other 2 Parmeters
will be passed.
6) File To Display After Exiting The Game. NONE = NO FILE TO DISPLAY

If you have only the Enter Text Name, and the Exiting Text Name,
and there is NONE in line 4, and 5, then it will just display the Enter
Text file, then display the Exiting Text file and Exits back to the Game
Menu.
Please check out the DIP_V14.ARC because it enahances the Games
menu quite a bit. With TLinK! and DIP theres very few programs you cant
run. With the addition of Game Access Levels in TLinK! it really spices
things up and gives complete control over who can do what.
SEE VARIABLE.DOC for examples of passing Variables to TTP programs and
how to use the OPEN_O> Command for creating your on Files.
* You can Pass Parameters to Some *.PRG's if they Accept them, not many do.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Example KEYS1.DAT File for use in CHAT/TINYTERM
*** The KEYS(X).DAT files are in your TRIPDATA Folder.
You MUST have an Editor like Tempus that can add/View Escape Codes if
you plan to use them for Colors Etc.., if you Don't you are limited to Just
Basic Text. Take a look at the ones supplied with TLINK! so you can see exactly
what I did, if you don't see the Escape Codes in your Editor then you need an
Editor like Tempus to Add the Escape Codes.
When KEYS(X).DAT are viewed from the desktop they will act out the
Escape codes.
Each Keys(X).DAT has 2 sets of 10 Fkeys available and is toggled using
ALT-O in Chat/TinyTerM mode. By selecting ALT-R you can load in any of the
KEYS(X).DAT files and your function keys will be loaded with this files. You
can also hit ALT-F to list the descriptions of the keys currently loaded. This
example has both VT52 and ANSI so you can switch between the two sets to help
you out when you are talking to a PC user or an ST User. Please look at the
KEYS1.DAT file to get an idea of how its set up so you will know what I'm
talking about , and back it up in case you mangle the file.
When you are in ANSI mode in TinyTerM!/CHAT and you want Esc Codes For the
PC User sent to him while you get the VT52 Equivalent you would do this:
* ANSI / VT52 Combination on one Line: ( Under the ANSI Keys )
ESC=CHR$(27)
ESC[J2/ESCE <- Put this on the Ansi lines. The "/" tells it to send the left
half to the ANSI user and the right half to Your side so it would clear
both your screens. You can use / or \ it don't matter... If there is no /
and there are Escape codes on the ANSI line it will send it to them but only
send a space to you.
*** ESC=chr$(27) or Esc not the letters ESC! And to edit these files with
Escape codes , you must have an Editor like Tempus that can do it.
You could have all VT52 by changing the:
<<< * ANSI * Fkeys Currently Available >>> :
to
<<< * VT52 * Fkeys Currently Available >>> :
and then you would have 20 keys, 2 sets of 10 for use, switch using the keys
ALT-O in TinyTerM! or ChaT, and all of them would output as VT52.
Now for the commands available you can use:
DIR>C:\BBS\*.* <- Outputs the directory to the modem/console
OUT>C:\BBS\WELCOME.HLP <- Outputs the file to the modem/console
Now, when adding ESCAPE codes you must have something like TEMPUS that displays
the ESC so you can add commands like ESCb1 etc.. if you want colors etc.
You could even put your Handle on F1 and Password on F2 so when calling out
in TinyTerM! you could hit those keys, Or you could put like ATDT5551432 in
F3 and hit F3 in TinyTerM!, it will dial that number.
There can be from KEYS1.DAT to KEYS9.DAT for a total of 180 loadable
key configurations , mixed ANSI/VT52 , all VT52 or all ANSI, or just alot
of different strings and combinations of all of these, its your choice.
================ TinyTerM! Mode [ RIGHT MOUSE from Main Menu ]
* TINYTERM IS CHAT on this SysteM! So when I mention CHAT its the same as
saying TINYTERM!
The LEFT MOUSE button will drop you into TinyTerM! from alot of different
places, but while in TinyTerM! pressing HELP will list the Commands available.
TinyTerM! is a basic Communications Program built into the FEDBBS so
you don't have to exit the FEDBBS to do simple call outs. Another PLUS with this
feature is you can call someone at there house and log them on the FEDBBS
without them having to call back. I didn't intend on this being a Full Blown
Flash or Interlink (Call Them from the Dropdown menu), so don't expect
miracles or umpteen million parameter settings. TinyTerM has some neat
features and anything coming across the modem is saved in TELECOMM.LOG, so
be sure to delete that once in a while. I keep it hanging around just in
case there are things that you may want to yank out for your own use. That's
if you have Buffer On. Pressing HELP in TinyterM will list the keys you can
use within TinyTerM.
These files can be edited with any simple editor and you should take a look
at the ones supplied with TLINK! so you can see exactly what I did.
By pressing ALT-F it gives you a list of the description of the keys
loaded so you know what to press. Look at the Supplied KEYS(X).DAT and it
can explain itself. They're pretty easy to set up or change. ALT-(X) sets
ST Baud to 1200/2400/9600 not the modem! This is so if the ST is set for
2400 and you are on the FEDBBS and a user calls in and he locks in at 1200
while your on the FEDBBS, ALT-2 will tell the ST to switch to 2400 so when
you are chatting it isn't all scrambled. This is unless you have a high
speed modem then you can just leave it at 19200 (ALT-0).
*** You can Click the LEFT MOUSE for Dropdown Menus while in TinyTerM! ***
***************************** IMPORTANT *****************************
While using TinyTerM! and calling another TripLinK!! FEDBBS you can
can log on his BBS then he can jump into TinyTerM!/CHAT on his (RIGHT MOUSE
BUTTON Or CLR) while your on his Main Menu), at that point you could click the
(RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON) on your side and it will ask " Do you want this User
To Log On? ", Say YES , and he'll start logging on your FEDBBS like he had
called you. confusing? Wild also, gets pretty wild with dropdown Menus,
Loaded Fkeys , TinyTerM! and POS Modes all involved but with a little time
you can jam around and do alot of things for both of you. Now Read closely,
if you called his FEDBBS and YOU RIGHT CLICK and it asks you "Do you want
this user to log on?" and you say NO, then you are returned back to your
FEDBBS and you can do anything while he's hanging out in the background. By
RIGHT CLICKING back into TinyTerM! you will be back on his BBS :-)
So now while in TinyTerM! you have 2 Sets of FKEYS , The Auditor (Info about
it above), DropDown Menus and Much More , Pressing Help will Help You out..
==================== PULLING PEOPLE INTO THE FEDBBS =====================
While the sysop is online the sysop can pull a user into the FEDBBS , this
will save his current setups , log them on and after they are done and log
off, the sysop is then returned to the Main Menu. The User after logging off
after being on the FEDBBS is still connected and the sysop can re-enter the
TinyChaT! or TinyTerM! and relog them , Drop carrier or just go about busi-
ness with them still connected it dont matter. It sounds wild but its simple
and TlinK! will prompt you all they way, so always pay attention to the
prompts. It will ask you if you want to LoG them on or continue chatting,
or just exit back to the FEDBBS. It will take a few trys but in time
youll be bouncing around using all the features available to you..
** Now an ALERT BoX pops up when the Sysop is online and drops to the Main
Menu and someone has connected, so you can DROPEM, drop out to TINYTERM,
or Flat out IGNOREM until you drop in on them...
=============== SYSTEM.LST / SYSTEM.TXT and PD.LST / PD.TXT
YOU CAN RUN THIS STUFF FROM THE DROP DOWN MENUS!
* THIS HAS BEEN REPLACED MY THE MINI_MAG.TTP and its called from the Drop
Down Menus as MAKE SYSTEM.TXT or MAKE PD.TXT
* PD.LST is created From Mini_mag, it only lists the Files of the Directorys
that you have linked in the FILE AREAS. This way when the user does a search
from the BBS Main Menu (HUNT), they wont be Searching through all your
Files.
* SYSTEM.LST Is a list of ALL the FILES, On ALL DRIVES , so when are user
like youas Sysop does a Search, its search all the Files not just the files
that are in your File Areas. It Also gives quite a bit of info when you
search for a File.
* HUNT - DOES NOT SEARCH BY FILENAMES Like *.TXT or *.ARC , It SEARCHS BY
STRING , LIKE ST="CAST.PRG and LIST.TTP and TEST.TXT" etc.. It's searching
through the System Text looking for matches of what you typed in. IF you
were to search for say "*.ARC" just put in ARC....
See HUNT and LINK in POS Mode!!!!!!!!!!!!!
=============== Base Descriptions (BASEDESC.HLP)
There is a file called BASEDESC.HLP in the TRIPMENU directory so take a look
at it to get an idea of how to add or change Message Base Descriptions
for each message Base.
=============== Special Bits [ MASS or Individual Changes ]
Special bits are bits that help control what a user can and can't do. So
the best way to read about which bit does what, and there are 64 of them, is
to edit the sysop (your) User set-up and edit special bits. At that point
it explains what each bit does and allows you to change them. Make sure you
edit the NEW USER (option #1, then O in TripEdiT!) set-up, so you know what
your users are being set to.
============== Access Bits (64 Bity Wide Using V 7.0)

Message Bases:
Well what exactly can Crazyman do? Well he will Quickscan Message Base
1-5 , he can read messages on Message Base 1-5, he's allowed to Post/Enter
Messages on message Base 1-5, He cant Edit Messages in any Message Base. He
can Delete Messages in Message Base 1-3. He has access to Games 1-4 in the
Game Menu (SEE GAMES.DAT,GAMES.HLP,GAMEACC in POS Mode)
He can Read and POST in Email. There are 64 message bases and any Bit set to
1 means he has access and 0 means he don't have access for that command in
that message base from 1-64.
File Areas:
What file access does Crazy man have? Well he has access access to File
Area 1-10 , he can edit descriptions of files in File area 1-10, He can
delete Files in File areas 1-4, and he can also Validate Hidden Files
in File Areas 1-3. But he can download files From File Area #1, and it dont
count against him (Free Files Bits [0])
Bits set to 1 mean he has access to that Command within any given file area
and again 0 means NO.
======== Special Bits That are available in each Users Profile: ========
Bit 1 : User Skips Welcome After Logon (Welcome.hlp)
Bit 2 : User Skips Notices After Logon (Notice.hlp)
Bit 4 : User Skips System News After Logon (sysnewsX.hlp)
Bit 5 : Allow User To Print Messages To Printer
Bit 6 : Allow User To Change Thier Handle
Bit 7 : Allow User To FMAIL In EMAIL And Message Bases
Bit 8 : Allow User To Download Globally (ie. *.txt *.arc ar*.*)

* Bit 31: Co-TripSyS Can Move A Single File To Another File Area *
* Bit 64: TripOp Level, SYSOP Access, POS Mode, TripEdiT! etc. *
Well Crazyman has bits 1,3, and 7. Which means he wont have to view
the WELCOME.HLP file. He can search for specific words within text files in
file areas. If bit 6 was 1 then he could even change his handle.
Bits 30 / 31 allow the sysop to let certain Users Move or Rename files. The
sysop don't have to have these on , Bit 64 Overrides 30/31.
You can block an annoying user from Including Replies by setting the
special bit #12 to 1, 1 ALWAYS Means YES , 0 ALWAYS Means NO
============== BUSSINESS ADS [ BUSS_ADS.DAT and BUSS.ADS Folder ]
3
BUSAD1.TXT PAL AD Registered on 09/23/91
BUSAD1.HLP
BUSAD2.TXT Crazy Rules For BTX!
BUSAD2.HLP
BUSAD3.TXT PEPSI Advertising
BUSAD3.HLP
=========================================================================
** I SUPPLY ALL THE BASIC BUSS_ADS FILES THAT CAN GET YOU STARTED **
[IF STARTING NEW KEEP READING, KILL THE FOLLOWING IF YOU UNDERSTAND IT!]
HOW TO SET UP AND USE BUSSINESS ADS:
1) Create a Folder Callled BUSS_ADS In Your TRIPBBS Folder
2) Create A File Called BUSS_ADS.DAT, Example Following:
3 <- Maximum Number of ADS you Have 48 MAX!
BUSAD1.TXT PAL Publishing AD <- Header File #1 (Displays On Menu)
BUSAD1.HLP <- File To Display when # is choosen
BUSAD2.TXT Crazy Rules For BTX! <- Header #2, with Description
BUSAD2.HLP
BUSAD3.TXT PEPSI Advertising
BUSAD3.HLP
At preset these only work in BASEMENU.XXX, FILEMNU.XXX, GAMES.XXX
and MAINMENU.XXX Menus using the BUSSAD> command. The BUSSAD> command
should be added to the beggining on the above mentioned files on the
first line or first 20 if you want.
BUSS_ADS.LZH Place all the BUS*.* Files in BUSS_ADS Folder.
BUSADXX.TXT is the header file to place above menus etc.. 4 Lines
works great.
BUSADXX.HLP is the File To Show them that is linked to the BUSADX.TXT.
The [XX] is the number from 1 to 48. The BUSADXX Files are always
grouped, like: BUSAD1.TXT and BUSAD1.HLP etc.. Where TXT files are the
Headers , and the HLP files are the Display file for the TXT with the
same [XX] number. I call each BUSADX.TXT/BUSADX.HLP a SeT!
COMMENTS: Comments Must Start beyond column 14 so they don't interfere
with the names. This helps keep track of what AD is what.
Now all you have to do is place BUSSAD> in any menu file in your
TRIPMENU Folder like: MAINMENU.HLP,MAINMENU.ANS etc.. It works best
as the first line in your Menus but in does not matter really.
If you have A Missing File or Folder BUSS_ADS, TripLinK! will report
this, and it will display on the Screen, and it will be logged in the
TRIPBBS.LOG. So if users are saying there are Files Missing, thats why.
If you do not want to run this then do not have the BASSAD> in any of
your Menus and Kill the BUSS_ADS Directory/Files.
There are many possibilities with this, you can display everything here
and no 2 are shown in a row. So you can place BBS Ads , business Ads,
crazy text Files, or what ever you like. It is flexible. The files also
dont have to be in order like 1,2 3, you could have 1,12,33,44 as long
as the Files are there and the count is right in the BUSS_ADS.DAT. There
is also no length on these Files so its up to you make what you want.
NOTE: Users can create files for this as well as you, have them create
A 4 line Header (Name it BUSADX.TXT), and the File to View, and
you name it (BUSADX.HLP) and Increase the Count in the
BUSS_ADS.DAT file. You can also swap with other TLINK! FEDBBSs.
============================= TTP Support Files =========================
There are 4 Files you need also :
ARC.TTP For Extracting only! Verbose is built in
LZH.TTP For Extracting only! Verbose is built in
STZIP.TTP For Extracting Only! Verbose is built in
* XYZ.TTP Used for Downloading and Uploading Batch or single files
Please support the authors of these programs, they are shareware
products also! I am not the author of any of these programs so it is up
to you to obtain these programs if i havent supplied them. We all work hard
to bring you quality products at a cheap price with the chance to try
out the software before even buying it.
======================== MICROSOFT WINDOWS TRIP ========================
If you are running MS WINDOWS and have your PC next to the ST then
TLINK may be of some help like it is here. Go to TINYTERM set it to
19200 then connect a null modem cable to the STs Serial Port, and set the
PC up ( I use Procomm Plus ) at 19200, and hit CLR/HOME on the ST. Then
answer YES to the question and youll be on at 19200. From There you can
Minimize your Procomm and do other things or start some heavy Xferring
from the ST to the PC , or the PC to the ST or whatever you can think of.
Its like having a little mini local Network.
