  29. -- What in the H*LL is ReUsEd? ------------------------------------------

  31. ReUsEd is a usereditor for the BBS-System Quick BBS ST (tested 1.08). But 
  32. it's not any normal user editor, it's got something that others don't. It 
  33. can be operated by a user in the BBS. A REMOTE Usereditor it is! :-)

  35. This  program has been under development since spring  1992,  and  things 
  36. like not having enough time and so have delayed it being put out in BBSes 
  37. around the world! :-)

  39. The version you're a proud owner of right now,  is only a DEMO version. I 
  40. charge  no money from you if you want a full and working version.  All  I 
  41. want  is a nice postcard.  This is why this sort of programs  are  called 
  42. PostCardWare.  You know,  there are lots of different  Wares.  Globeware, 
  43. Shareware,  Freeware...  The names keep on rolling. I thought it would be 
  44. different with PostCardWare. And I'll get to know who's interested in the 
  45. program, right?!

  66. -- How to install the program -------------------------------------------

  68. Together  with  REUSDEMO.PRG is a file called  REUSED.CFG.  This  is  the 
  69. configuration  file,  and  in that file there are some  words  and  other 
  70. things  that  you  may  not  understand,   right?  Ok,  here  comes  some 
  71. explaination for you.

  73. This  file  is  used  by ReUsEd to know where you  have  your  QBBS  home 
  74. directory,  where the USERS.BBS file are, how the system should treat you 
  75. and so on.

  78. LogFile C:\QBBS\SYSTEM.LOG

  80. This command tells ReUsEd that you want to log all things that happens in 
  81. the program,  and that the file it should write all this to is SYSTEM.LOG 
  82. that is in the directory C:\QBBS\. You must not have this command, but it 
  83. is useful!

  88. Tells ReUsEd where it can find DORINFO1.DEF.  Usually your so called QBBS 
  89. main directory. Compulsory.

  99. As in QBBS,  a user cannot stay calm to long, before the system warns you 
  100. with a bell,  and a treath that it will logg you off.  Here you decide on 
  101. your own how many SECONDS the user can idle before a first warning with a 
  102. bell. This command MUST be in the CFG-file!

  107. This  tells ReUsEd that SYSOP can idle how much he wants  to.  Useful  or 
  108. not, decide for your self! Optional.

  113. If you have this command,  ReUsEd will let ANYONE edit the SysOp  record. 
  114. NOT good, but maybee someone wants to have it like so. If you do NOT have 
  115. this command, SysOp can only be edited by - SysOp.

  120. If  you by any reason want a security code,  here's your chance!  In  the 
  121. example above, the code is "ATARI". Optional.

  124. Please  boot up a good text editor like Tempus or Emacs or  whatever  you 
  125. like,  as long as you can edit the config file.  Look at the example  and 
  126. edit to suit your BBS! Any lines with "#" are NOT read!

  129. Place REUSDEMO.PRG and REUSED.CFG in the same directory,  for example  in 
  130. your QBBS home-directory. Make a .DOR file for Quick BBS like so:

  144. Make  a menu option 7 in any menu in your BBS,  so that the  DOR-file  is 
  145. started, and in that - ReUsEd.

  147. IMPORTANT  NOTE:  ReUsEd  does  not look for  DORINFO1.DEF  in  the  same 
  148. directory  as  the  program  and config file,  it looks  for  it  in  the 
  149. SystemPath directory!

  153. This way gives you more memory left for the userbase,  but you have to be
  154. running a Batch file. I like this way more, because of memory probs. on a
  155. 1MB machine.  Running with PCommand, this gives  me memory free for about
  156. 500-600 users. 2MB users can expect 1000-1500 users,  and 4MB maybe 3000.

  158. Make a DOR-file (or a menu option 15 - exit with errorlevel):

  163. Now in the batch-file, set it up so when  Qbbs exits with errorlevel 200,
  164. ReUsEd starts up.  Remember that the  DORINFO1.DEF need to be  written in
  165. the SystemPath directory. The errorlevel is  free to chose.  Need to tell
  166. you this all time! :-)

  170. ReUsEd now can handle a maximum users, depending on your free RAM. If you
  171. have 340650 bytes free, then ReUsEd can handle about 340 users.  If   you
  172. have less users, it uses less memory of course!

  178. It's  not so complicated,  is it?  I've tried to make it as  like  Theo's 
  179. Usereditor as possible, but of course some small changes...
  180.  
  181. Depending on your graphics mode,  you'll se different graphics on screen. 
  182. If you have a 2400 bps modem, IT IS SLOW, I know. Hopefully 9600 or 14400 
  183. should be a bit faster! :-)
  184.  
  185. Move the ">" cursor by pressing Cursor Up and Down. If this doesn't work, 
  186. the terminal program cannot send ASCII 27 plus A, B, C or D (VT-52 cursor 
  187. move codes). Then try "8" and "2" on the numeric keypad.
  188. Press Cursor Left and Right to go back and forth in the userbase,  or "4" 
  189. and "6" if VT-52 codes does not work.
  190.  
  191. Whenever you feel for editing a field,  press Return and the cursor  will 
  192. move into the datafield.  Pressing Return again will Cancel,  and  typing 
  193. anything and pressing Return will change the data.
  194.  
  195. Press Control+H for a Help-screen with all key combinations.  Like Ctrl+S 
  196. for searching the userbase at the name-field,  or Ctrl+L for listing  the 
  197. userbase.  Try  the  different keys and you'll feel more  familiar  in  a 
  198. couple of minutes!

  200. At the bottom is some information about free memory,  and who is  online. 
  201. Plus the info about Control+H for help.

  209. I've tried to make this program as useful as possible.  I am working on a 
  210. routine to upgrade users with complex commands and so, plus a routine for 
  211. looking  at  the  NEWUSER.LOG-answers the  user  gave.  And  maybee  some 
  212. statistic screens and ... Look a bit down to see what´s implemented!
