  1. This is the source for Umoria 5.2, a dungeon exploration game.  This is my
  2. second major release of the game.  These sources have been compiled
  3. successfully at least once in the following environments: UNIX (4.2 BSD,
  4. 4.3 BSD, SYS V, Xenix, and many similar systems), IBM-PC (MSC 5.0,
  5. Turbo C 4.0), Mac (MPW 3.0), Atari ST (MWC, GCC).  VMS and Mac (Think C 4.0)
  6. ports are in progress.

  8. I consider these to be beta sources.  That means they will probably work
  9. on your system, but there are no guarantees.  Also, I reserve the right to
  10. change game features at any time, with no advance notice, as I am still
  11. tuning various features in the game.  However, I will not make any major
  12. changes affecting savefiles, so old 5.x savefiles will continue to be
  13. accepted.

  15. People who are accustomed to Umoria 4.87 MUST read the file doc/FEATURES.NEW
  16. which documents many of the user visible features.  Don't send me bug reports
  17. unless you have read the file.

  19. Umoria 5.x does not understand Umoria 4.87 savefiles.  The changes to the
  20. game are so great, that supporting the old savefile format is not worth
  21. the effort.  Implementing a savefile conversion program will be an almost
  22. impossible task, and at least two people have tried and not succeeded.

  24. You may distribute modified copies of this game.  However, you must clearly
  25. indicate the extent and purpose of the changes.  Also, if the changes are
  26. extensive, I request that you call your sources something other than
  27. `umoria' so that they won't be confused with my version of the game.
  28. I would also appreciate receiving a copy of your changes, so that good ideas
  29. can be added back into my version.
