Find File Diz v0.01
Written By Mark Taylor (©)
Try That Once! SoftWare 1994
Disclaimer: Find File Diz will make hard use of your harddisk,but it has
been well tested.So I take no responsabilty for any trouble or breakages
that may occur.
So what does Find File Diz do then?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It looks for a file called 'File_ID.DIZ' in your Zipped and LZHed files,
if it finds one it will then extract the file,and take the description and
add it to your 'Files.BBS' (So far it's only setup for QBBS).
What do I need to run it?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You will need 2 files called 'Search.CTL' and 'Find_Diz.CFG',both are
plain ASCII files,you may use the 'Flsearch.CTL' renamed to 'Search.CTL'
or make your own,each line contains a path to a file area ie.G:\General\
I'll describe the 'Find_Diz.CFG' next,there is a heavily commented one in
the Zip though if you'd rather edit that :)
Command : Unpack
Example : Unpack d:\find_diz\temp\
Description : This is the folder where all 'File_id.Diz' are extracted to.
Command : Dupes
Example : Dupes d:\find_diz\dupes\
Description : A folder where a number of files will be created,these will
be call 'AreaName.DUP' and contain all files checked.
Command : Zip
Example : Zip f:\packers\stzip.ttp
Description : Where you keep STZip.
Command : Lzh
Example : Lzh f:\packers\lharc.ttp
Description : Where you keep Lharc.
Command : Log
Example : Log f:\log\find_diz.log
Description : * Where to write any log details.
Command : MaxFiles
Example : MaxFiles 1000
Description : * Maximum number of files contained per folder,defaults to
750,usefull if memory is tight and you only have 200 per
folder or if 750 is a little on the low side.
Command : MaxPaths
Example : MaxPaths 50
Description : * Maximum number of paths in 'Search.CTL',defaults to 100,
usefull again if memory is tight,or if 100 are not enough :)
Command : KeepBaks
Example : KeepBaks
Description : * When a new 'Files.BBS' is written the old one is given the
Extenion of 'BAK',if this command is not used,then this file
will be deleted.
Command : BBS
Example : BBS QBBS
Description : * This is not in use yet :) But I'm Beta Testing ProBBS at
the moment and would like to add this type to 'Find File Diz'
Also if you'd like your system added then drop me some details
All Commands that have a '*' in the Description are optional,so its up to
you whether you use them or not :)
Running 'Find File Diz'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are 2 ways you can do this,the normal method is just to double click
on the program or run it from a mailer event,the other way is to use the
Command Line,to do this just rename the program to a TTP and double click
it,then enter the Folder you want searched for 'File_ID.Diz' in to the
Command Line.
There is quite a lot of error checking built in but if you find any bugs
please report them to me at one of the address below,now I'm going to make
my normal plea,if you use this program and you want features added,then
can I ask you to send me 5 UK Pounds,10 German Marks or 10 USA Dollars,it's
not much money but it means features will be added and I will write more
programs and release them rather than just writting them for me!
Future Versions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If there is enough response I may make the program use the log from say
'AutoFile' or what ever program you use to proccess Ticks,it would be a
lot quicker,Also I'd like to use other BBS SoftWare ie ProBBS,Turbo2 etc.
At the moment 'Find File Diz' only uses LZH and ZIP,but it would'nt be to
much hassle to add ARJ,ZOO or ARC.
But thats up to you! :)
Tips
~~~~
Here are a couple of files I found that gave me the idea for this program
'Flid17.Zip' is a description of what a 'File_ID.Diz' is,but a better
program in my opinion is 'MakeDiz1.Zip' by Charles Berlinguette and this
makes entering 'File_ID.Diz' very very easy.
When you first run 'Find File Diz' using the 'Search.CTL' and you have a
large number of files I'd advise making yourself a cup of coffee :),but
once thats out the way,it's very fast :)
