SPELLING II
The States and Their Capitols
The Terrapin Schoolhouse Series of
Educational Computer Programs is
Copyrighted with The Library of
Congress. This Software is private
property; and the property rights are
protected by the Copyright Laws of
The United States of America.
We are pleased that you have
purchased a copy of this Educational
Software. The program is not 'copy-
protected', and you are encouraged to
make a 'back-up' copy for your own
use. However, all rights to
duplicate, modify, or otherwise
promote the software for public sale
or distribution are reserved by the
owners.
The SPELLING II program is written
in GFA BASIC; an advanced, structured
programming language. The program
has been compiled in machine
execution code to simplify use and
enhance performance. Please utilize
the following instructions:
1. Insert the program disc into your
disc drive, and activate the power
switches for your computer and
monitor.
2. Use LOW Resolution Graphics
(see GEM Options Menu; this option
should be selected automatically
unless the DESKTOP.INF file has been
deleted or altered from your disc).
Page 2
3. 'Double-Click' the left mouse
button on the SPELLING.PRG file. The
program will load and begin
execution.
4. The disc also contains a graphics
file named SCHOOLGR.BAS. Make
certain this file is present on your
working disc, or hard disc drive.
The program will cease operation if
this graphics file cannot be
accessed.
5. The program has been written with
six (9) different lessons with twelve
(12) multi-colored, graphic images in
each lesson. The student is
challenged to recognize each object,
and input the correct spelling of the
names of the objects. The 'views' of
the objects are either vertical,
elevation perspectives or the 'top
view'.
6. The program includes a unique
one-to-one assignment of 26 different
tones for each of the 26 different
letters of the alphabet. When the
student selects a letter for
inclusion in the name of an object,
the unique sound tone for that letter
is emitted by your computer monitor
speakers. When the name of an object
is spelled correctly, the computer
sounds three tones (musical notes) in
succession which correspond with the
first letter of the word; the
'average tone' of the word (computed
from the linear scale of tone
assignments for the 26 letters of the
alphabet); and then the tone
assignment to the last letter of the
word. These tone assignments may be
suppressed by turning the volume knob
on the monitor to the lower limit.
Again, we thank you for your purchase
of our SPELLING iI program. We hope
your young students will enjoy their
lessons.
