Modifications in REFBASE Version 1.1, dated 11 February 1992
In the load menu it is now possible to select up to 16 drives ("A" to
"P") with the mouse. Drives "C" to "P" are also selectable via the
keyboard by pressing the corresponding drive letter.
In the fields menu select "Import ... " to import a field in the
currently loaded REFBASE file. The import file must be a text file in
which the number of lines is equal to the number of records in the
REF_BASE file. The import facility will then place each line of the
import file in the selected field of the REFBASE file, starting with
the first record that is visible in "Display All" mode.
From the "Table view" you can press F10 to enter the "Title view"
mode. You can use the CURSOR UP/DOWN keys in combination with the
CONTROL or SHIFT key to scroll through the titles. Pressing CURSOR
LEFT or CURSOR RIGHT will start an automatic soft scroll, which can be
stopped by pressing any key. In "Title view" mode F9 ("expand") is
inactive. You can switch between "Title view" and "Card view" by
pressing F8 or INSERT. The normal table view is restored by pressing
F10 again.
A bug that generates formfeeds during printing of references (in pages
without pauses) was fixed.
A bug that causes one to return to the record being entered or amended
after a failure to select keywords in the keywords menu was fixed: you
now remain in the keywords menu, until you press ESC of "Exit".
In the main menu a clock and the current date are displayed.

Modifications in REFBASE Version 1.2 dated 13 april 1992
For NeoDesk users, multiple files can now be loaded automatically by
dragging them on the REFBASE icon. The maximum number of files that
can be loaded in this way is limited by the amount of space that
GEMDOS reserves for storing the file names with their drive paths:
their total length should not exceed 127 characters. You can only load
.REF or .ISS files. A mixture of .REF and .ISS files is not allowed:
if the first file in the sequence is a .REF file, any following .ISS
files will be ignored, and vice versa. (Attempts to get a similar
autoload facility working correctly with the "Install Application"
option of the TOS 1.4 desktop have failed until now).
In the main menu pressing/clicking on F1 ("Acc/Cpx") will produce a
GEM drop-down menu through which accessories and CPX-programs can be
accessed during a REFBASE session. In the keywords-menu, or during
display, the function of F1 will change to the (original) cursor
"Fix/Float" toggle.
A bug in the "?"-wildcard search that occasionally caused the program
to "hang" has been fixed.
During entry or editing of records extra key functions are available:
SHIFT + CURSOR LEFT/RIGHT - moves cursor to start/end of line
SHIFT + CURSOR UP/DOWN - moves cursor to first/last line of field
CONTROL + CURSOR LEFT/RIGHT - moves cursor one word left/right
CONTROL + DELETE - deletes word at cursor position
UNDO - restores field contents
In the mode menu the speed of the automatic soft scroll can be varied
by choosing between 0 and 9 "units of pause" between consecutive
records (one unit of pause is 400 ms). You can interrupt the soft
scroll also during a pause period by pressing any key.
In the mode menu you can select whether or not the cursor should blink
during data entry.
The "invert screen" option has been removed from the mode menu, and
will now only work by pressing the "I"-key.
A bug in the chain search has been fixed: after leaving the chain
search menu without having viewed search results, the last file that was
loaded is now erased from memory, and will no longer produce unwanted
text during subsequent entry of new data.
A bug in the chain search menu has been fixed: pressing A, S, or D no
longer selects the F3 ("Search") option.

Updates in REFBASE Version 1.3 dated 9 July 1992
Included in the package is the program REFSPLIT.PRG, which recovers
REFBASE files that have become too large to load (e.g. due to a wrong
append operation).
In title view the FILE field is now shown as well.
With the "Save MODE preferences ... " option in the main menu you can
save your REFBASE mode configuration to disk in the file REFBASE.MOD.
Whenever REFBASE is started, it will now automatically load this file
and set the preferences accordingly.
A major bug has been repaired: after entry of new records with INPUT
or with "record duplication (^D)" or with "undo record deletions" any
stored sort sequences are now inactivated, and sorting after entry of
new records will therefore no longer cause bus errors (two bombs)
during display.
A bug was fixed that caused a incorrect record duplication after
having PASTEd the contents of a field to the block buffer.
Title reports now print the FILE field 6 characters wide (instead of
3).
After leaving HELP (F10) in the keywords menu, returning to DISPLAY
RECORDS will now restore the screen properly.
The printing of the {marks} in the remarks field has been improved:
they will now be printed only once, and always at the end of LARGE or
EXTRA LARGE references.
ALTERNATE + INSERT as an alternative for pressing the mouse button now
works properly in the load menu.
A bug in the REPEAT SELECT option (^F2) has been fixed.
The numeric key pad now simulates PC-functions:
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| (7) | (8) | (9) |
| Home | Cursor Up | Page Up |
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| (4) | | (6) |
| Cursor Left | | Cursor Right|
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| (1) | (2) | (3) |
| End | Cursor Down | Page Down |
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
Pressing "F" or "f" during table view or keywords view switches
between 8*16 font and 8*8 font.
The scroll speed in table view and title view has been increased.
In the mode menu, one can now choose to use the VDI 8*16 font instead
of the TOS 8*16 font. This further increases the scroll speed with
screen accelerators that specifically enhance the VDI text output.
Jumping to the bottom of a list of selected keywords now works
correctly.
A bug that automatically activated the F10 key during a block paste
operation has been fixed.
Page scroll in table or title view now completely replaces the
previous screen, i.e. there are no more overlapping records between
pages.
Tagging a record in title view now works correctly, i.e. if the cursor
is not visible on the screen, the "invisible" record is not tagged
(and a program crash is prevented).
Inverting the screen will no longer influence the "Cursor blink" arrow
in the "Mode menu".
Doing a garbage removal with more than 3276 records will no longer
produce an address error (3 bombs)
Erasing a field via the mode menu will no longer produce a warning
that the size of the paste block is too large

Updates in REFBASE Version 1.4 dated 14 August 1992
A number of bugs associated with the switch between 8*8 and 8*16 font
have been removed.
Fixing and floating of the cursor can now be set independently for
displaying records and displaying keywords.
It was found that very occasionally exported records from the Current
Contents on Diskette may be too large for REFBASE. Therefore, both in
CC_HELP.PRG and FULMERGE.PRG the size of the converted REFBASE records
is now tested, and if they are larger than 4500 characters they will
be shortened in size.
The GOTO function now only works during record display, and it can
be used with subsets of "selected" or "tagged" records.
Pressing CONTROL-X in most of the menus will stop REFBASE and return to
the desktop immediately.
In "Card View" pressing CONTROL-P prints the current record in full
"card" format to the parallel printer port, with a maximum line length
of 78 characters (Pica width). No printer control codes are given,
except for a formfeed at the end of the record.

PLANS AND IDEAS FOR FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS:
* Import/export of single fields during CARD display
* Buttons for mouse-controlled manual/automatic scrolling
* The use of the keyboard to select options in the various menus
(LOAD, SELECT, SORT, etc.) to facilitate the use on the ST-Book
computer.
* Support of Atari TT screen resolution(s)
* Conversion of CD-ROM export files into REFBASE format
