  5. VCR_DATA.STD and VHSLABEL.STW comprise a simple database for organizing and labelling your VHS videocassette tapes. The aim in creating these utilities was to get my family's collection of movies in some semblance of order.
  6. Fields are provided in VCR_DATA.STD to assign a Tape Volume number and record titles, record modes (SP, LP or EP), tape counter settings, categories and miscellaneous comments for up to 3 titles per tape. The companion file VHSLABEL.STW allows you to print tape center label and 2 copies of spine labels - one for the tape cassette and one for the box. Because of the way AtariWorks' word processor merges files from the database it is not possible to print more than one set of labels per page. This is wasteful of paper and I apologize for it. I purposely left the space between labels rather large. Feel free to edit the file after making a backup copy.
  7. Data entry in VCR_DATA.STD begins with the assignment of a Tape Volume number. If you do not care to use volume numbers simply leave this field blank. Data entry is made in the edit bar at the top of the screen. Pressing the Return key enters the data in its field on the form and advances you to the next field. If no data is to be entered in a particular field pressing the Right Arrow key will advance you to the next field. Pressing the Left Arrow key will take you back to the previous field.
  8. Pressing Return after the entry in Comments 3 or pressing the Down or Right Arrow key to advance past Comments 3 will advance you to the next record. The data entry procedure is repeated as described above.
  9. When more than one record has been created pressing the Down Arrow key will advance you to the next record. Pressing the Up Arrow key will take you one record back.
  10. After you have created a few records open the VHSLABEL.STW file. It looks rather strange doesn't it? Now click on Show Data under the Edit menu and you should see the data from the current database record nicely formatted on the labels. Click on Activate Document under the Window menu and select VCR_DATA.STD. Using the Up or Down Arrow keys select a different record. Return to VHSLABEL.STW by using the Activate Document function and you will find the labels have been automatically updated for you.
  11. Print a copy of the labels, cut them out and paste them onto the tape cassette and box with some contact cement. If you find a cheap source of pressure sensitive paper like that used for Avery labels post the info on Genie. It will greatly benefit all of us.
