  8. I. Performance Tips
  9. ===================================

  11. Animated Coral Reef Screen Saver is designed to work on a minimum
  12. of a 486 PC with 16 Mb RAM.  Depending on your system, program 
  13. performance is affected by many factors, including what programs 
  14. you are running at the time when the screen saver becomes active,
  15. available hard drive space, system memory, video card, etc.  
  16. For best results, or if you experience poor slow animations, we 
  17. recommend the following tips for improving performace:

  19. - Number of fish selected - decreasing the number of fish you have
  20.   selected to appear simultaneously on the screen at one time will
  21.   have the most effect on program performance.  If the animations 
  22.   appear to stutter or your hard drive light stays on for long 
  23.   periods, try de-selecting several fish in the Choose Fish screen.

  25. - Color Settings - Animated Coral Reef will work best when running
  26.   Windows in Hi-color (16-bit, 65000 colors).  When in 256 color mode,
  27.   the program needs to find an optimum set of 256 colors in which to 
  28.   display images, which may slow down animation speed.

  30. - Scrolling Text - Scrolling text messages require more video memory.
  31.   Animations will run smoother without Scrolling text.

  34. II. Custom Backgrounds
  35. ===================================
  36. For best performance we recommend that you import a BMP file that is the same size (resolution) as your screen display. For example; If your screen display is set to 640x480 pixels, we recommend that your BMP image by 640x480 pixels. It is also advised that the color depth of your image, match the color depth of your screen display. For example: if your screen display is set to 8bit color (256 colors) then your BMP image should be reduced to the Windows 95 8bit color (256 colors) palette.
