  10.      LOTUS 1-2-3 AND SYMPHONY @NA FUNCTION

  12.          The @NA function in 1-2-3 version 2.01 and early versions of
  13.          Symphony will not work correctly on a system with a 387DX
  14.          installed. The problem has been corrected in 1-2-3 version 2.2.

  20.          Not all programs make good use of MCPs.  Scientific and
  21.          CAD/Graphics programs use MCPs intensively for screen graphics and
  22.          floating point calculations.  Spreadsheets use coprocessors for
  23.          exponents, internal rate of return, net present value, and certain
  24.          arithmetic calculations.  Basic math functions (add, subtract,
  25.          multiply, and divide) are sped up minimally or not at all,
  26.          depending on the program.

  31.          You'll see this error if the math coprocessor switch on the system
  32.          board is set incorrectly.

  35.      386 XENIX/UNIX AND THE 387DX

  37.          When 386(TM) versions of Xenix or Unix run on a computer
  38.          containing an Intel 387(TM) DX math coprocessor, the computer can
  39.          lockup intermittently.  Read FaxBack document #3054 for more
  40.          detailed information on this problem.

  44.  
  45.          CadKey released a 32-bit version of their 3D CAD software.  This
  46.          triggers the errata 21 problem when the customer asks the program
  47.          to redraw images with arcs or text.
  48.  
  49.          CadKey has an article that talks about the Errata 21 problem as
  50.          though it's a problem in the MCP instead of in the processor.  So
  51.          their tech support is telling customers to get their MCP replaced.
  52.          Instead, the customer needs to call the manufacturer of the
  53.          computer to deal with the 386 processor.

  74.      LOCKUPS WITH CERTAIN CAD PROGRAMS

  76.          An incorrect computer configuration can cause certain programs to
  77.          lockup while others work fine.  You must make sure that the
  78.          computer's SETUP and/or switch settings correctly indicate the
  79.          presence of a Math Coprocessor.

  82.          Intel Inboard 386/AT and 387DX Math Coprocessor, if Math
  83.          Coprocessor switch was set wrong, Autocad ran just fine but
  84.          Digicad didn't.

  88.      LOTUS 1-2-3 MATH COPROCESSOR TEST

  90.          Here's a quick and easy method for testing your math coprocessor
  91.          using Lotus 1-2-3:
  92.  
  93.          1.   Enter this formula in cell A1:  @exp(@rand)
  94.          2.   Copy the formula to a large range with this command:
  95.          /C<cr>A1..Z400<cr>
  96.          3.   Press F9 and time how long it takes the spreadsheet to
  97.          recalculate.

  99.          In an 8 MHz computer, it should take about 1 minute without a math
  100.          coprocessor and about 10 seconds with a math coprocessor.  In a
  101.          4.77 MHz computer, it should take about 3 minutes to recalculate
  102.          without a math coprocessor and about 27 seconds with a
  103.          coprocessor.  The difference in time is noticeable even without a
  104.          stopwatch.

  108.      1-2-3:  GARBAGE IN CELLS

  110.          A defective math coprocessor can cause unpredictable values in
  111.          number cells.  Test your math coprocessor with Intel's CHKCOP
  112.          program.  Download the program with your modem from (503) 645-6275
  113.          or contact Intel Customer Support

  142.      SET 87 = NO (OR OFF)
  143.  
  144.          Some programs will respond to the command SET 87=NO.  This DOS
  145.          command creates an environment variable.  It does not directly
  146.          disable the math coprocessor.  If a program checks the variable
  147.          "87" and find it set to "NO" (or "OFF"), the program will use
  148.          floating-point emulation subroutines instead of the math
  149.          coprocessor.  Not all programs will check for this variable so its
  150.          usefulness is limited.  Ask your software manufacturer for
  151.          information on how their program responds (or doesn't respond) to
  152.          this command.
