- This file is README.1ST. It contains information about
- RecAll and how to install it. Please read this file
- first!
-
- RecAll is not free.
- If you obtained this program on a try-before-buy basis,
- be aware that if you continue to use this program, you
- MUST register within thirty days of use.
-
-
- RecAll is a sound-activated recorder for Windows,
- which uses the microphone input capabilities of your
- sound card to detect sound and then record direct
- to disk. Possible applications include taking notes
- or dictation, monitoring of radio scanners
-
-
-
- I. Distribution Files
- ------------------------
-
- You may have received RecAll in one of two forms:
-
- A) You have the program in the form of .ZIP file,
- RECALL20.ZIP
- from a bulletin board, Internet, CDROM, etc. You
- should know how to unzip the file with PKUNZIP.EXE.
-
- B) You have a floppy disk with several files, most in
- compressed format.
-
- If you have (A), please make sure the ZIP files are unzipped
- in a single directory before installation.
-
- II. Installing RecAll
- ---------------------------
-
- The RecAll file set includes a program named SETUP.EXE
- used for installation.
-
- If your distribution files are on a floppy disk in drive A:
-
- 1) Click on the Start button
-
- 2) Click on the "Run..." menu item.
-
- 3) In the command box type
-
- A:\SETUP
-
- (If your floppy drive is different than A:,
- substitute the appropriate name.)
-
- 4) Click on OK
-
-
- (If you unzipped the zipped file into a temporary directory, for
- instance, C:\TMP, then do the same but with the command
- C:\TMP\SETUP )
-
- The setup program will ask you where you want RecAll installed.
- You may install it anywhere, but we suggest using a separate new
- directory to keep RecAll files separate from other programs.
-
-
- III. Getting started
- ----------------------
-
- Chances are your system is already set up correctly for sound
- input if you have a sound card installed. As a useful check,
- go into the Windows applet Sound Recorder and record a few
- seconds of speaking into the microphone in a normal voice. If
- you hear good quality sound on playback without clicking or
- other strange noises, you are ready to begin. After installing
- RecAll, go ahead and try out the program by clicking on the
- Listen button. If the meter registers significant output when
- you speak, but is close to zero when you are silent, you're all
- set! Otherwise, refer to the procedure
- detailed in RecAll's online-help under "Troubleshooting".
