  4. This README file lists enhancements to the files on the
  5. Install/Utilities diskette(s) that are not yet documented
  6. in the Reference Manual.  Dates in parentheses indicate when the
  7. enhancement was implemented.  Please refer to the README files on
  8. the other master diskettes for additional information.

  10. The following files have been changed or added since the 03/29/91

  16. FLATTIRE.LRN and MEMO.LRN  (11/01/90)
  17. =================================================================
  18. LetterPerfect is shipping two new files, FLATTIRE.LRN and
  19. MEMO.LRN, for use with Lesson 10 in the Learning section of the
  20. LetterPerfect Reference manual.  The Installation Program
  21. installs these two files with the Learning Files.  This new
  22. lesson will appear in the first reprint of the manual scheduled
  23. for release during fourth quarter of 1990.

  26. INSTALL.EXE  (11/01/90)

  28. An update option has been added to the Installation Program. 
  29. This option lets you install groups of files without performing
  30. the entire installation process.  This is useful for updating
  31. only those files shipped in an update package.
  32.  
  33. After you select Update (4) from the main installation menu, you
  34. choose which master diskettes you wish to update from and which
  35. groups of files on those diskettes you wish to install.
  36.  
  37. Note:  Speller/Thesaurus files and Printer files are installed to
  38. the directories specified in LetterPerfect under Location of
  39. Files (Shift-F1,4).

  44. A copy option has been added to the Installation Program.  This
  45. option lets you decompress all the files on a specified master
  46. diskette and copy them to a destination drive.  This is useful
  47. for copying .ALL files from the Printer master diskettes to your
  48. hard drive, for example.

  50. After you select Copy disks (5) from the main installation menu,
  51. you choose which master diskette you wish to update from and the
  52. directory to which the files will be installed.

  55. LP.MRS  (11/01/90)
  56. =================================================================
  57. This file is used to edit LetterPerfect macros with the Editor
  58. program (ED.EXE) which ships with WordPerfect Office. 
  59. LetterPerfect installs LP.MRS with the utility programs.  Note: 
  60. You must use a version of Editor dated later than 6/14/90.

  63. WINDOWS PROGRAM INFORMATION FILE (.PIF)  (11/01/90)
  64. =================================================================
  65. LetterPerfect now provides a Program Information File (.PIF) that
  66. gives Microsoft Windows the information it needs to run
  67. LetterPerfect.  You should use one of three files:  WIN30-LP.PIF
  68. (Windows 3.0), LP10-286.PIF (Windows 286), and LP10-386.PIF
  69. (Windows 386).  The .PIF files are installed with the
  70. LetterPerfect utility programs.
  71.  
  72. The .PIF file has default settings that are common to most
  73. LetterPerfect users.  If LetterPerfect is not running correctly
  74. under Windows, you may need to edit the .PIF file.  To do so, you
  75. must edit it in the PIF Editor that comes with Windows. 
  76. Information for using the PIF Editor to edit .PIF files is found
  77. in your Windows documentation.

  79. As you edit the .PIF file in the PIF Editor, the following
  80. information is important in helping LetterPerfect operate
  81. correctly under Windows:

  83. Initial Directory
  84. This option sets your default directory.  Keep in mind, however,
  85. that any directory you enter in LetterPerfect as your document
  86. directory (see Location of Files in Reference) will override this
  87. setting.
  88.  
  89. Memory Requirements
  90. Make sure that the KB Required heading is set to 330.  Do not set
  91. this option for less than 330.
  92.  
  93. Program Name
  94. The default setting for the location of the LetterPerfect Program
  95. is listed as C:\LP10\LP.EXE.  If the LetterPerfect Program is
  96. contained in a directory other than C:\LP10, you need to specify
  97. that directory under the Program Name heading.

  99. If you are receiving a message from Windows that says it cannot
  100. find LP.EXE, check the Program Name setting for the .PIF file.
  101.  
  102. Program Parameters
  103. This option is where you enter any startup options you want to
  104. take effect.  For more information on LetterPerfect startup
  105. options, see Appendix K: Startup Options.
  106.  
  107. Program Title
  108. While not essential to LetterPerfect operation, the program title
  109. lets you enter a descriptive name for the LetterPerfect program. 
  110. The name you enter here will appear beneath the program icon in
  111. Windows.
  112.  
  113. Video Mode
  114. For Windows 3.0, make sure the Video Mode option is set to
  115. Graphics/Multiple Text.

  118. ENHANCEMENTS DISK
  119. =================================================================
  120. A list of all enhancements made to LetterPerfect 1.0 since its
  121. initial release is available on a separate diskette.  You can
  122. order the "LetterPerfect Enhancements Document" diskette ($10.00
