- ASCii Character Viewer - By: Garrett Whitney
- Released June 27, 1993
-
-
- ASC is a Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) program which is loaded
- into memory when it is executed and then exits back to dos with little
- program output. ASC will give you a listing of all 256 ASCii characters.
- These characters will be displayed on your screen when you press the magic
- button. It is very simple to use and should cause you no trouble at all.
-
- To execute ASC, just type ASC.exe from Dos and ASC will load itself
- into memory. You should see two lines of text verifying that the loading
- was successful. After ASC has exited, just hit the asterik (*) on your
- numeric keypad. It must be on the keypad (located above the 9 key), the
- SHIFT-8 combination will do nothing but type a * on the screen. After hitting
- the * key, the screen should clear and you should get the first 128
- characters. You get 5 seconds to view the screen before it clears and the
- remaining characters appear.
-
- Please note that after the second screen is displayed, there is a
- 5 second time delay for viewing and then control is returned back to you.
- Your original screen is not displayed and you are left with the second
- screen of ASC code. I am working on that problem. I recommend only executing
- this from DOS unless you can refresh the display of your screen somehow.
- Also notice that when control is returned back to you, you will see no
- cursor until you hit a key. Just hit anything and you will see what you
- are typing. Hit enter for another Dos prompt.
-
- ASC is really simple to use and requires nothing spectacular.
-
- I recommend the following for ASC to run well on your computer:
-
- 286 class processor or better
- 256K of free memory
- (ASC requires almost 15K of memory to remain resident)
-
- Have fun, it's free. Pass it around as it is. Do not modify.
- Source code is available upon request and is free as well. Just ask for it.
