  29.    QAPlus COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
  30.  
  31.       The following command line options are provided to enhance
  32.       QAPlus' operation in particular instances when interference
  33.       to other components in your system is suspected.
  34.  
  35.       Note that these command line options are generally only
  36.       available if you are running from a hard disk system,
  37.       or from non-booting floppy diskette working copies of QAPlus.
  38.  
  39.  
  40.    -NOCRC   tells QAPlus not to perform IntruderAlert(tm) checking.
  41.  
  42.  
  43.    -NOEMM   tells QAPlus not to look for an Expanded Memory Manager.
  44.             This will bypass the related tests, and speed up the
  45.             auto configuration process.  You may still encounter
  46.             some conflicts with non-standard EMM drivers, however.
  47.  
  48.  
  49.    -NONDP   tells QAPlus not to look for a Numeric Data Processor
  50.             (such as an 8087, 80287, 80387 or 80387SX), and bypasses
  51.             the corresponding tests.  It also forces the system
  52.             performance tests to test the math computation speed
  53.             of the CPU alone, without the assistance of an Numeric
  54.             Data Processor (otherwise know as a NPU or Numeric
  55.             Processing Unit, or a Numeric Co-Processor)
  56.  
  57.  
  58.    -NOVERT  inhibits checking for an EGA/VGA vertical retrace
  59.             interrupt during the IRQ report.  If, during the IRQ
  60.             Report, your screen acts strangely, use this option.
  61.             It is possible that your EGA/VGA card does not properly
  62.             implement the vertical retrace interrupt.
  63.  
  64.             NOTE: if no vertical interrupt is detected on an EGA,
  65.                  'EGA' will be shown as 'no IRQ:'.  However, since the
  66.                  vertical interrupt is NOT standard for VGA cards,
  67.                  if none is found, no problem will be reported.
  68.

  70.    -NONET   inhibits checking for an Ethernet network card during
  71.             the IRQ Report.  Since a wide range of addresses
  72.             (280h-320h) is checked for a network card, it is possible
  73.             that other adapter boards may be inadvertantly accessed.
  74.             If you find that some non-standard adapter cards in your
  75.             system do not behave as expected after running the IRQ
  76.             report, use this option.
  77.  
  78.             NOTE: in order to identify an EtherNet adapter, the
  79.                   adapter must be properly terminated.  If the adapter
  80.                   card is connected to a network,  this should not
  81.                   be an issue.

  83.                   However, if the machine under test is NOT connected
  84.                   to a properly cabled network, simply connect a standard
  85.                   BNC T-connector to the back of the network card.  Each
  86.                   side of the T-connecter must have a terminater attached
  87.                   (usually 75 ohms).  Simply connecting a terminater
  88.                   to the back of the network card has been found to
  89.                   be successful as well.

  98.    -NOIPX   is used if you wish to force QAPlus to locate an Ethernet
  99.             network card.  Normally, QAPlus will attempt to locate
  100.             the network driver (IPX) and display its interrupt line.
  101.             If the driver is found, QAPlus will not attempt to locate
  102.             the network adapter.  However, if you wish to know what
  103.             I/O port the network adapter is based at, use of this
  104.             option will may be necessary.
  105.  
  106.             NOTE: normally, this option is only required if you have
  107.                   logged in to the network.
  108.

  110.    -NOSTRAY will inhibit checking for stray/spurious interrupts at
  111.             the end of the IRQ Report.  Stray (or spurious) interrupts
  112.             are those interrupts which occur without apparent stimulus.
  113.             These can introduce problems with other devices using
  114.             IRQ lines.  At the end of the IRQ report, QAPlus will
  115.             loop for approximately two seconds, checking for stray
  116.             interrupts.  If you encounter any problems during this
  117.             procedure, use this option to prohibit stray interrupt
  118.             checking.

  121.    -B&W     is designed to force QAPlus into a monochrome/Black &
  122.             White mode of operation, with no color option.  You
  123.             will automatically be presented with the most readable
  124.             screen menu options for a Black & White screen (such
  125.             as many of today's powerful laptop computers), and will
  126.             not have to manually select monochrome mode.  This will
  127.             also automatically disable any color testing under the
  128.             Testing menu.

  131.    -REMOTE  tells QAPlus to automatically search for the
  132.             remote COM port and use that port for remote
  133.             connection.

  144.             The diagram shows the relationship between the remote
  145.             site (HOST) that will be running QAPlus, and the local
  146.             site (REMOTE to the HOST).

  149.             NOTE:  This feature can be used if a remote control
  150.                    package is installed on both the HOST and the
  151.                    REMOTE computers.  The feature has been tested
  152.                    with the following commericially available
  153.                    packages: PCAnywhere, Closeup, and Carbon Copy
  154.                    Plus.
  155.  
  156.  
  157.             The connection must be established via one of the COM
  158.             ports (COM1 - COM2).  QAPlus will look for a COM port
  159.             with the following characteristics:

  170.             If you do not follow the above standard, there is a
  171.             possibility that QAPlus will not work properly on
  172.             the host system and can disrupt the operation of
  173.             the remote control software package.
  174.  
  175.             When using -REMOTE (auto identification of the COM port)
  176.             there will be a 1 second delay when the Hardware
  177.             Configuration Report is displaying the COM ports.  In
  178.             the Interrupt Information Report the remote COM port
  179.             will be listed as " * remote * ".
  180.  
  181.             The following tests are NOT available during remote
  182.             operation:
  183.  
  184.                      - Mouse
  185.                      - Joystick
  186.                      - Keyboard
  187.  
  188.             The following tests have limited functionality during
  189.             remote operation:
  190.  
  191.                      - Speaker test will only work on the HOST
  192.                        system
  193.  
  194.                      - COM Port Debugger cannot use the remote
  195.                        serial port.  This feature is available
  196.                        for any other serial port(s) present on
  197.                        the HOST system.

  199.             Logging / Printing
  200.  
  201.                  When COM1 is the active remote port, any logging
  202.                  or printing cannot be directed to COM1.  The user
  203.                  is prevented from accessing the remote port for
  204.                  this activity.  A simple solution would be to
  205.                  use another serial port, i.e. COM2 for remote
  206.                  communication, freeing COM1 for logging and/or
  207.                  printing.

  209.    -REMOTE1 tells QAPlus not to automatically search for the
  210.             remote port and use COM1 for the remote connection.
  211.  
  212.    -REMOTE2 tells QAPlus not to automatically search for the
  213.             remote port and use COM2 for the remote connection.
  214.  
  215.    -REMOTE3 tells QAPlus not to automatically search for the
  216.             remote port and use COM3 for the remote connection.
  217.  
  218.    -REMOTE4 tells QAPlus not to automatically search for the
  219.             remote port and use COM4 for the remote connection.

  223.    1. To activate one of these options, after you type the
  224.       command to run the program, leave a space, then type the
  225.       command option.  If you elect to use more than one option at
  226.       a time, leave a space between each option.  For Example:  At
  227.       the A:> or C:> prompt you might type:

  231.    2. With these two options you would be telling QAPlus not
  232.       to look for a Numeric Data Processor AND force the program
  233.       into Black and White (monochrome) mode of operation.

  251.       These tests may be either a COM or EXE file.  The COM
  252.       based tests will be found by DOS before the EXE tests.

  254.       Look in the USERDIAG sub-directory on the QAPlus distribution
  255.       diskette for documentation (USERDIAG.DOC) and sample programs.
  256.       For your convenience, both the C source and EXEcutables are
  257.       included.
  258.
