  19. ------------------------
  20.     Current GCA SDMS Driver Versions (9/24/94):
  21.       SDMSNET3-3.05.00          (for NetWare Version 3.1x)
  22.       SDMSNET4-3.05.00          (for NetWare Version 4.xx)

  28.     As of SDMS NetWare driver version 3.05.00, the specific
  29.     version of the driver you are using can be obtained by
  30.     executing the:
  31.         MODULES
  32.     command at the NetWare server console.
  33.  
  34.     In prior versions of the SDMS NetWare drivers, you need to
  35.     note the driver version which is displayed on the NetWare
  36.     system console at the time the SDMS NetWare driver loads.

  39. SDMSNET Driver Error Logging
  40. ----------------------------
  41.     With this current release of SDMS NetWare drivers, error 
  42.     logging has been added to the driver.  If, for any reason, 
  43.     a device I/O cannot be completed successfully (or experiences 
  44.     unusual problems), a message will appear both on the NetWare 
  45.     system console display and in the SYS:SYSTEM/SYS$LOG.ERR file.
  46.  
  47.     When contacting support, you may want to check for the
  48.     existence and content of this file.
  49.  
  50.     There are several ways of accessing this SYS$LOG.ERR file.  
  51.  
  52.     1.) The simplest way to view this file is to simply log into 
  53.         your Novell NetWare server from a client.  Map and
  54.         change to the SYS:SYSTEM directory, then use your
  55.         favorite text editor or utility to view the contents of
  56.         the SYS$LOG.ERR file.
  57.     
  58.     2.) Login to the NetWare server from a client and use the 
  59.         NetWare administrator's tools available under NetWare: 
  60.             SYSCON for 3.1x,
  61.             NETADMIN for 4.x under DOS,
  62.             NWADMIN for 4.x under MS Windows
  63.         select the "View File Server Error Log" option.   
  64.         (This option is found under "Supervisor Options" under
  65.          3.1x or "Manage Objects", followed by selecting the
  66.          server name under 4.x) 
  67.         Use PgUp/PgDn to examine the file, ESC to exit.
  68.         An option will be given on exit to "Clear Error Log".
  69.         The default is NO.  Select YES only if you want to
  70.         wipe out all current information in the log file.

  72.     3.) The following method is available, however, WE RECOMMEND
  73.         THAT YOU *NOT* USE IT!
  74.         From the NetWare console:
  75.             load EDIT.NLM
  76.         and specify:
  77.                 SYS:SYSTEM/SYS$LOG.ERR
  78.         as the file to be edited.  If the error log file is small,
  79.         you can use PgUp/PgDn to view the messages.  This method
  80.         is NOT recommended because (apparently) the NetWare EDIT
  81.         utility has a small buffer and truncates the view on the
  82.         file without warning.  The result is that the most recently
  83.         logged error messages will NOT be visible.

  87. Release Version Notes
  88. ----------------------
  89.  
  90. The following enhancements have been made to the NCR SDMS Netware
  91. drivers since the release of version 3.04.00.
  92.  
  93.   - Driver now supports NetWare for OS/2 (NWOS2).
  94.  
  95.   - Improve Error handling and error logging, including 
  96.     explicit device identification in the error messages.
  97.  
  98.   - Device information displayed now includes more information, 
  99.     including vendor, product ID, and firmware rev for each 
  100.     device.
  101.  
  102.   - An NCRSDMS3.DDI file has been added.  While such a file is 
  103.     not used by NetWare 3.1X, it is recognized by NetWare 4.XX
  104.     installations.  This file simply directs the user to the 
  105.     appropriate driver for NetWare 4.XX. 
  106.  
  107.   - The default I/O time-out period has been changed from 15
  108.     to 30 seconds.
  109.  
  110.   - The timeout value for each pending io is now calculated on a 
  111.     per device basis.  Formerly this value was a function of the 
  112.     total number of outstanding IOs.
  113.  
  114.   - Improved support for applications which gain access to the driver 
  115.     via the CAM interface.
  116.  
  117.   - Improved Tagged Command Queuing (QTag) support.
  118.  
  119.   - Changed QTag support to be ENABLE by default.  Also the default 
  120.     qdepth has been changed to 10.
  121.  
  122.   - Improved Multi-LUN support
  123.  
  124.   - Increased maximum number of LUNs supported from 4 to 8.
  125.  
  126.   - Improved CD-ROM Support
  127.  
  128.   - New driver information options have been added:
  129.         -h provides on-line help for options (without 
  130.             loading the driver), and
  131.         -v (verbose) provides visual feed-back of current driver
  132.             options to the user (while driver is loaded).
  133.         
  134.   - New sort=disable" driver load option, allows for disabling 
  135.     sort of read requests, which may yeild improved performance
  136.     on certain devices.
  137.  
  138.   - Added "maxkb=NN" driver load option which allows for specifying
  139.     the maximum block size which may be written to disk at one time.
  140.  
  141.   - Fix for third-party applications which accesss the driver via the 
  142.     CAM interface.
  143.  
  144.   - Fix for driver failing to detect NCR PCI HBA(s) on certain systems.
  145.     Driver would incorrectly display "Board Count=0" and fail to load.
  146.
