- NCR Driver Versions
- ------------------------
- Current GCA SDMS Driver Versions (9/24/94):
- SDMSNET3-3.05.00 (for NetWare Version 3.1x)
- SDMSNET4-3.05.00 (for NetWare Version 4.xx)
-
- Current FCA ASPI Driver Versions (4/28/94):
- NETASPI3-3.03.00 (for NetWare Version 3.1x)
- NETASPI4-3.03.00 (for NetWare Version 4.xx)
-
- As of SDMS NetWare driver version 3.05.00, the specific
- version of the driver you are using can be obtained by
- executing the:
- MODULES
- command at the NetWare server console.
-
- In prior versions of the SDMS NetWare drivers, you need to
- note the driver version which is displayed on the NetWare
- system console at the time the SDMS NetWare driver loads.
-
-
- SDMSNET Driver Error Logging
- ----------------------------
- With this current release of SDMS NetWare drivers, error
- logging has been added to the driver. If, for any reason,
- a device I/O cannot be completed successfully (or experiences
- unusual problems), a message will appear both on the NetWare
- system console display and in the SYS:SYSTEM/SYS$LOG.ERR file.
-
- When contacting support, you may want to check for the
- existence and content of this file.
-
- There are several ways of accessing this SYS$LOG.ERR file.
-
- 1.) The simplest way to view this file is to simply log into
- your Novell NetWare server from a client. Map and
- change to the SYS:SYSTEM directory, then use your
- favorite text editor or utility to view the contents of
- the SYS$LOG.ERR file.
-
- 2.) Login to the NetWare server from a client and use the
- NetWare administrator's tools available under NetWare:
- SYSCON for 3.1x,
- NETADMIN for 4.x under DOS,
- NWADMIN for 4.x under MS Windows
- select the "View File Server Error Log" option.
- (This option is found under "Supervisor Options" under
- 3.1x or "Manage Objects", followed by selecting the
- server name under 4.x)
- Use PgUp/PgDn to examine the file, ESC to exit.
- An option will be given on exit to "Clear Error Log".
- The default is NO. Select YES only if you want to
- wipe out all current information in the log file.
-
- 3.) The following method is available, however, WE RECOMMEND
- THAT YOU *NOT* USE IT!
- From the NetWare console:
- load EDIT.NLM
- and specify:
- SYS:SYSTEM/SYS$LOG.ERR
- as the file to be edited. If the error log file is small,
- you can use PgUp/PgDn to view the messages. This method
- is NOT recommended because (apparently) the NetWare EDIT
- utility has a small buffer and truncates the view on the
- file without warning. The result is that the most recently
- logged error messages will NOT be visible.

- Release Version Notes
- ----------------------
-
- The following enhancements have been made to the NCR SDMS Netware
- drivers since the release of version 3.04.00.
-
- - Driver now supports NetWare for OS/2 (NWOS2).
-
- - Improve Error handling and error logging, including
- explicit device identification in the error messages.
-
- - Device information displayed now includes more information,
- including vendor, product ID, and firmware rev for each
- device.
-
- - An NCRSDMS3.DDI file has been added. While such a file is
- not used by NetWare 3.1X, it is recognized by NetWare 4.XX
- installations. This file simply directs the user to the
- appropriate driver for NetWare 4.XX.
-
- - The default I/O time-out period has been changed from 15
- to 30 seconds.
-
- - The timeout value for each pending io is now calculated on a
- per device basis. Formerly this value was a function of the
- total number of outstanding IOs.
-
- - Improved support for applications which gain access to the driver
- via the CAM interface.
-
- - Improved Tagged Command Queuing (QTag) support.
-
- - Changed QTag support to be ENABLE by default. Also the default
- qdepth has been changed to 10.
-
- - Improved Multi-LUN support
-
- - Increased maximum number of LUNs supported from 4 to 8.
-
- - Improved CD-ROM Support
-
- - New driver information options have been added:
- -h provides on-line help for options (without
- loading the driver), and
- -v (verbose) provides visual feed-back of current driver
- options to the user (while driver is loaded).
-
- - New sort=disable" driver load option, allows for disabling
- sort of read requests, which may yeild improved performance
- on certain devices.
-
- - Added "maxkb=NN" driver load option which allows for specifying
- the maximum block size which may be written to disk at one time.
-
- - Fix for third-party applications which accesss the driver via the
- CAM interface.
-
- - Fix for driver failing to detect NCR PCI HBA(s) on certain systems.
- Driver would incorrectly display "Board Count=0" and fail to load.
-
- For more information on driver load options and their use, please
- refer to the tuning guide, also included in this distribution.
