  13. Q. Do I run GHOST inside the operating system, such as Win95, NT or OS/2 ??
  14. A. At times GHOST WILL run inside of the O.S., however it is not best to run
  15.    GHOST inside Win95, NT or OS/2.  This could cause GHOST to fail with Error
  16.    Messages, or misrepresent the hard drive specifications.

  18. Q. If I shouldn't run GHOST inside the O.S., how should I launch GHOST ??
  19. A. It is best to execute GHOST at the "true DOS" level, not a DOS window
  20.    inside the O.S..  Hitting F8 at "Starting Windows95..." works well, or you
  21.    can create a bootable diskette, and then launch GHOST.

  23. Q. I know I should launch GHOST outside the O.S., but then I don't have
  24.    Access to the Network, JAZ, ZIP or CD-ROM drive for saving and loading
  25.    Disk images.  How do I work around this ??
  26. A. Create a bootable diskette with nothing on it but the DOS based drivers
  27.    or network stack required for access to these devices.

  29. Q. What is the 30-Day Trial for ??
  30. A. For testing GHOST. For determining what it does, and how it works.  The
  31.    trial is NOT for commercial gain or profit.  It is not to be used as a
  32.    migration tool, it is for evaluation only.

  34. Q. How is GHOST priced and licensed ??
  35. A. GHOST is licensed and priced based on how many end workstations that you
  36.    use GHOST on.  For example, if you use GHOST to prepare 200 workstations
  37.    for Windows95, you must purchase a 200 machine license pack.
  38.    License packs come in 25,50,100,200 up to 10000 workstations.

  41. Q. Does or Can GHOST compress and image file ??
  42. A. Versions 2.x.x, available upon purchase does.  The 1.6.x trial does not.

  44. Q. I just downloaded the trial, Launched GHOST, got an error message stating
  45.    "Invalid System Date". What is this error mean ??
  46. A. GHOST trial versions check system date and all files to verify the trial
  47.    time period.  There is most likely a file, or set of files, beyond the
  48.    trial timeout range.  For Example, if the trial GHOST times out on March
  49.    1st, 1997 and GHOST finds a file beyond that date (May 13th, 1997), it will
  50.    timeout.  The only way around this error is find the file and "touch" it or
  51.    delete it.  The registered version does not check file dates.

  53. Q. Does GHOST Support writing directly to a tape drive ??
  54. A. GHOST does not support writing directly to tape (streaming devices)
  55.    currently, but will soon, in upcoming versions.

  57. Q. I'm using GHOST to save an image file up to a server.  I'm using a boot
  58.    disk as instructed.  I am running TCP/IP.  GHOST takes a long time to save
  59.    and load an "image" to and from the server.  Why ??
  60. A. GHOST rides the network layer or "stack" created.  Not all stacks work the
  61.    same as the next.  GHOST only goes as fast as the network layer that you've
  62.    created.  The stack may work well normally, saving files normally.  GHOST
  63.    will really ride the stack aggressively.  Try experimenting with different
  64.    clients.

  66. Q. Does GHOST Support resizable FAT32 partitions ??
  67. A. Versions 2.x.x do, trial versions 1.x.x don't.

  69. Q. I'm using a Xircom Pocket Ethernet adapter, and GHOST fails.... Why ??
  70. A. GHOST supports parallel port cloning, as such, you may lose your network
  71.    connection through the parallel port network adapter on PE1 or PE2.  PE3
  72.    seems to be a better network adapter for stability.  Drivers and BIOS
  73.    levels on these devices may also play a role in stability.
  74.    Try using PCMCIA for faster, more stable connections.

  76. Q. When will GHOST support resizable NTFS partitions ??
  77. A. GHOST will clone NTFS just fine now, but without the resizability.  Soon
  78.    GHOST will be able to re-size NTFS on the fly.

  80. Q. Does GHOST support all protocols ??
  81. A. GHOST supports ArcNET, Ethernet and Token Ring.
  82.    GHOST supports TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, NetBEUI.  As long as you have the clients
  83.    loaded, and resources mapped, GHOST can save and load to and from these
  84.    resources.

  86. Q. Will GHOST save and load UNIX and NetWare drives ??
  87. A. GHOST Should be able to save and load UNIX and NetWare volumes.  However,
  88.    Resizability will not be available, and hardware must be the same.

  90. Q. 3-Com Nic cards, and Windows95.  After cloning and restarting, Windows95
  91.    keeps finding a new NIC card.  The NIC card is the same as on my model
  92.    machine.  Why ??
  93. A. Plug and Play, at times will "see" and "find" devices twice or more.  To
  94.    avoid this, remove the card, and all the protocols from the model BEFORE
  95.    saving the image or cloning.  After cloning, re-start, Windows95 will
  96.    "See" and "Find" the card for the first time, then add the clients, etc.

  98. Q. I'm using an earlier version of GHOST, and it fails with COMPAQ system
  99.    Diagnostic partitions.  Do you have a fix for this ??
  100. A. Version 1.6.7 and beyond for trials, fixes this.  Version 2.0.7 and beyond
  101.    fixes this for registered users.

  103. Q. I'm using a trial version, and it asks for a license and key number.  What
  104.    is it asking for ??
  105. A. ESC to bypass this for evaluation.  Upon ordering we can issue a license
  106.    and key for single access packages.  Call 1-800-817-5119 for licensing and
  107.    pricing.

  109. Q. Does GHOST allow me to specify the saving and loading partitions ??
  110. A. Not at this time, but it will soon.  You will be able to specify what
  111.    partition to save to an image file, and what partition to load with that
  112.    image file.

  114. Q. I'm registered, I downloaded the latest version, now what ??
  115. A. Unzip the latest into a temp directory on your Hard Drive, copy "your"
  116.    ENV file from the floppy into that same directory.  If it ask you to
  117.    overwrite, say YES.  Then type GHOST -#E=XXXXX.ENV, where "XXXXX" is the
  118.    name of the ENV file copied from your floppy.  This will "bind" your
  119.    licensing to the new GHOST.

  121. Q. Does GHOST support Macintosh ??
  122. A. Not at this time.

  124. Q. I accidentally specified the wrong cloning, is there any way to restore the
  125.    original contents.
  126. A. GHOST completely overwrites the target Hard Drive, be careful of your
  127.    selection of targets.

  129. Q. Does GHOST support spanning multiple JAZ or ZIP drives ??
  130. A. Not at this time, but will soon.
