  7.           Video Blaster MP400 Common Questions and Answers
  8.           ================================================
  9.                                   
  10. This file contains some common problems faced and the solutions to
  11. those problems. Please read the sections below when you encounter a
  12. problem, and call our Technical Support when you cannot find an answer
  13. in this file.

  15. Sections in this file:
  16. 1.  Error in initializing card.
  17. 2.  Unable to find font files or Microcode file
  18. 3.  No video image
  19. 4.  The video image has a magenta border
  20. 5.  The video image is flickering
  21. 6.  VGA blanks out when running Video Blaster MP400 software
  22. 7.  The playback of MPEG streams is jerky
  23. 8.  The mouse is not responding in the DOS/Windows application
  24. 9.  Unable to playback CDI Digital Video movies
  25. 10. The MPEG playback stops after the first screen
  26. 11. Network driver hangs with Video Blaster MP400 card installed

  31.                    1. Error in initializing card.
  32.  
  33. Causes:
  34. 1. The software is not able to locate the card at the port address
  35. specified in the VIDEOBLST_MP400 environment string, the environment
  36. string may be different from the hardware settings.
  37.  
  38. 2. The card may be set a port address that is in conflict with another
  39. card on your system.
  40.  
  41. Solutions:
  42. 1. Check that the AUTOEXEC.BAT file contains the statement SET
  43. VIDEOBLST_MP400=C:\MP400 A:2c0 I:15 D:7 T:4.  If any of the entries are
  44. missing you have to run MP400SET to reconfigure, after which you will
  45. need to reboot the system.  The values for A:, I:, D: may be different
  46. depending on your card settings.
  47.  
  48. 2. Switch off your system and change the card's port address (refer to
  49. User Manual).  After which, start up your system and run MP400SET to
  50. reconfigure the environment string.  MP400SET is able to detect any
  51. conflict in port addresses.

  56.            2. Unable to find font files or Microcode file
  57.  
  58. Causes:
  59. 1) The DOS software could not locate the font files that it needs from
  60. the current directory.
  61.  
  62. 2) The software could not locate the microcode file that it needs from
  63. the directory specified in the environment string VIDEOBLST_MP400.
  64.  
  65. Solution:
  66. 1) Ensure that you run the DOS application from the directory where the
  67. following font files are stored : Helvb.fon, Courb.fon and Tmsrb.fon.
  68.  
  69. 2) Check that the microcode file DRAM450.200 is located in the directory
  70. specified in the VIDEOBLST_MP400.  If not, either reinstall the software
  71. to copy the microcode file.  Or, run MP400SET to change the directory
  72. set in the environment string.

  77.                           3. No video image
  78.  
  79. Causes:
  80. 1. VGA cable is not connected to the Video Blaster MP400 card.
  81.  
  82. 2. Feature connector is not connected from Video Blaster MP400 to the
  83.    VGA card.
  84.  
  85. 3. The loop back cable is not connected properly.
  86.  
  87. 4. Video image is not aligned
  88.  
  89. 5. There is no MPEG source
  90.  
  91. Solutions:
  92. 1-3. Refer to user manual for installation procedures.
  93.  
  94. 4.   Use the DOS/Windows application software and set up the
  95.      alignment. Remember to save the alignment before quitting from
  96.      the respective programs.
  97.  
  98. 5.   Use the DOS/Windows application software to load a MPEG file,
  99.      Karaoke/Video CD or CDI CD (if you have a compliant CD ROM
  100.      Drive). Click the play button.

  105.                4. The video image has a magenta border
  106.                                   
  107. Cause:
  108. The video image is not aligned with the VGA monitor.
  109.  
  110. Solution:
  111. Run the application software, MP400WIN (in Windows) or MP400DOS (in
  112. DOS). Click the alignment option, adjust both the crop settings and
  113. alignment settings.

  118.                   5. The video image is flickering
  119.                                   
  120.  
  121. Cause:
  122. Some connections are not secured.
  123.  
  124. Solution:
  125. Ensure that the feature connector and video interface cables are firmly
  126. secured.

  131.      6. VGA blanks out when running Video Blaster MP400 software
  132.                                   
  133. Cause:
  134. The screen resolution may be too high
  135.  
  136. Solution:
  137. Try switching your Windows resolution to a lower one and try again.

  142.               7. The playback of MPEG streams is jerky
  143.                                   
  144. Causes:
  145. 1. The source of MPEG stream (CD ROM drive or hard disk) may be too
  146.    slow.
  147.  
  148. 2. There may be a conflict of DMA or interrupts on your system.
  149.  
  150. 3. The computer system may be too slow.
  151.  
  152. Solutions:
  153. 1. Try running MPEG streams from a fast hard disk and if the problem
  154. disappears, it confirms that the other source may be too slow. If you
  155. are using Creative CD-ROM model CR-563, you need to have at least a
  156. version 4.18 SBCD driver. Please contact our Technical Support or
  157. distributor if you need one. Some MPEG files are known to have problems
  158. playing on a Single Speed CD ROM, this is because they are meant for
  159. Double Speed CD ROMs.
  160.  
  161. 2. Try changing the DMA and interrupt. If it still fails, change the
  162. expansion slot location of the Video Blaster MP400 board on your system.
  163.  
  164. 3. Ensure that the PC system is running in turbo.
  165.

  169.     8. The mouse is not responding in the DOS/Windows application
  170.  
  171. Cause:
  172. It requires a substantial amount of processing to read MPEG streams and
  173. prepare them for the hardware. Resulting in less processing time for the
  174. rest of the system (mouse included).
  175.  
  176. Solution:
  177. Pause the video before making video adjustments and other processes that
  178. requires lots of mouse activity. In Windows, remove all other background
  179. processes before playing video.

  184.            9. Unable to playback CDI Digital Video movies
  185.                                   
  186. Cause:
  187. The CD ROM drive is not able to read CDI format CDs.
  188.  
  189. Solution:
  190. Your CD ROM may not be able to read CDI disk, please check with your
  191. supplier.

  196.          10. The MPEG playback stops after the first screen
  197.                                   
  198. Cause:
  199. The interrupt setting is wrong or conflicts with another hardware board
  200. on your system
  201.  
  202. Solutions:
  203. 1) Ensure that the interrupt specified in the I: parameter of the
  204. environment string is the same as your card. If not, run MP400SET to
  205. reconfigure the string before rebooting the system.
  206.  
  207. 2) If it still fails, switch off your system, change the interrupt
  208. setting on your board and run MP400SET to reconfigure the environment
  209. string. After which, you will need to reboot your system.

  214.     11. Network driver hangs with Video Blaster MP400 card installed
  215.  
  216. Cause:
  217. The card is not properly initialised upon boot up. This problem will
  218. only occur on certain systems.
  219.  
  220. Solution:
  221. Do not boot up the system with any network drivers. Install the Video
  222. Blaster MP400 software. You will now have to run MP400INI before
  223. running the network driver concern.
  224. You can run MP400INI from your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, before running the
  225. network driver concerned.
