- Windows NT AUDIO Device Driver Installation
- QuickGuide for the Compaq LTE 5000

- Print these instructions before beginning the installation.
-
- 1. From the Main program group, double-click <Control Panel>.
- 2. From the Control Panel, double-click <Drivers>.
- 3 In the Drivers dialog box, click <Add>.
- 4. On the Add panel, click <OK> (accepting the highlighted default.)
- 5. Insert the audio drivers diskette into drive A:.
- 6. Type A: and press <Enter>.
- 7. On the <Add ...> panel, highlight "ES1688/ES1788 AudioDrive"
- and click <OK>.
- 8. In the ESS Base I/O Address dialog box, press <Enter> (accepting
- the 220 default.)
- 9. In the ES16(7)88 Configuration dialog box, click <OK>.
- (Defaults to Interrupt: 7, DMA Channel: 1, and MPU-401
- I/O Address: 320)
- 10. In the System Setting Change message box, click <Restart Now>.

- Windows NT Installation QuickGuide for the Compaq LTE 5000

- Print these instructions before beginning the installation.

- Following are three options for installing Windows NT 3.51 on an
- LTE 5000 notebook computer. Although you can use any of these options,
- depending on the hardware you have, it is recommended that you use
- Option B, which considerably simplifies the installation process
- through the use of a Multibay Expansion Base.

- NOTE: To enable CD ROM support for Windows NT on an LTE 5000, either
- have the CD drive be physically present in the machine during
- installation, or see POST INSTALLATION STEPS below.

- OPTION A
- Diskette version 3.51 for an LTE 5000 with a Multibay Expansion Base
- 1. Mount a 3.5" diskette drive in the computerÆs Multibay or in Multibay II.
- 2. Insert the Setup Boot Disk in the 3.5" diskette drive.
- 3. Press <Ctrl-Alt-Del> to reboot.
- 4. Press <Enter> for all remaining DOS-mode prompts. When in doubt,
- use MicrosoftÆs printed instructions. There is a configuration
- checklist at the end of this QuickGuide.

- OPTION B
- CD version 3.51 for an LTE 5000 with a Multibay Expansion Base
- 1. Mount a 3.5" diskette drive in the computerÆs Multibay or in Multibay II.
- 2. Mount a CD-ROM drive in Multibay I.
- 3. Insert the Setup Boot Disk in the 3.5" diskette drive.
- 4. Insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive.
- 5. Press <Ctrl-Alt-Del> to reboot.
- 6. Press <Enter> for all remaining DOS-mode prompts. When in doubt,
- use MicrosoftÆs printed instructions. There is a configuration
- checklist at the end of this QuickGuide.

- OPTION C
- CD version 3.51 for an LTE 5000 without a Multibay Expansion Base
- 1. Mount a 3.5" diskette drive in the computerÆs Multibay.
- 2. Install DOS 6.2 with CD-ROM device driver support.
- 3. Using C:\DOS\FDISK.EXE, create two partitions on the hard drive.
- Drive D will hold the installation files, while drive C (about 200 MB)
- will be the destination for the operating system.
- 4. Turn off the computer.
- 5. Remove the 3.5" diskette drive.
- 6. Mount the CD-ROM drive in the computerÆs Multibay.
- 7. Turn on the computer.
- 8. Insert the Windows NT installation CD.
- 9. At the C:\ prompt, type D: <Enter>.
- 10. Transfer the installation files to the hard drive by typing
- xcopy E:\*.* /S /E <Enter> (where E: is the CD-ROM drive letter).
- 11. After the installation files have been copied (about an hour) turn
- off the computer.
- 12. Turn the computer back on.
- 13. At the C:\ prompt, type D: <Enter>.
- 14. At the D:\ prompt, type cd\I386 <Enter>.
- 15. Type winnt /b <Enter>.
- 16. Respond to the on-screen question that follows by pressing <Enter>,
- since the NT files are located within the default entry shown (D:\I386).
- Windows NT will then be installed from the hard drive.

- Simply press <Enter> for all remaining DOS-mode prompts. When in doubt,
- use MicrosoftÆs printed instructions. There is a configuration checklist
- at the end of this QuickGuide.

- POST INSTALLATION STEPS

- 1) ENABLING CD ROM SUPPORT ON THE EXPANSION BASE. (See opening NOTE.)
- If a hard drive is mounted in the notebook, and a CD ROM is to be mounted
- on the LTE 5000 Expansion Base, follow these steps:
- a) Click <Main>
- b) Click <Control Panel>
- c) Click <Devices>
- d) select Atapi, click <Startup>, select Boot, click <OK>
- e) select Atdisk, click <Startup>, select Boot, click <OK>
- f) select SCSIcdrm, click <Startup>, select System, click <OK>
- g) select SCSIdisk, click <Startup>, select Boot, click <OK>
- h) Shutdown and power off
- i) Install the CD ROM

- If a hard drive and a CD ROM are to be mounted on an LTE 5000 notebook
- only, follow these steps:
- a) Click <Main>

- Configuration Checklist

- A) Choose Custom or Express Setup. (Express is recommended).
- B) Specify whether this is an upgrade or new installation.
- If new, choose the location for the system files.
- C) Provide proper-name identifiers.
- (The product serial number can be found on the yellow registration card in the box.)
- D) If installing network services, set up your network adapter and protocols.
- E) Specify a local printer, if applicable.
- F) Provide the NT Server Domain Membership name.
- G) Set up a password and local user account.
- H) Set local time.
- I) Configure your display adapter.
- J) Create an (optional) emergency disk.
