  3. Overview
  4. --------
  5. In order to use the software on this CD ROM, you need to have a 486 or 
  6. Pentium with at least 8 MB of RAM and 50 MB of hard disk space.  If you 
  7. are installing Adobe Photoshop, you need to have 16 MB of RAM (memory) 
  8. in order to run Photoshop.  The hard disk space requirements depend on 
  9. the size of images you scan.  50 MB is enough if you are scanning small
  10. images.  If you intend to scan larger files or very high resolutions, you
  11. need to have much more space than 50 MB on your hard disk.

  13. ScanWizard - ScanWizard is the scanner controller software driver or the 
  14. Twain driver for your scanner.  It allows your applications to communicate
  15. with your scanner.  When you install this software under Windows 95, you 
  16. get a 16-bit as well as a 32-bit version of ScanWizard.  Use the 16-bit 
  17. version with 16-bit applications and the 32-bit versions with 32-bit 
  18. applications.

  20. ULead PhotoImpact - This is a 32-bit image editing software for Windows 95.  
  21. Use this program to scan images under Windows 95 and save them as bitmaps.

  23. ULead ImagePals to Go! - This is a 16-bit image editing software for Windows
  24. 3.1x. If you are using Windows 95, it is a good idea to use PhotoImpact to
  25. scan images instead.  This software will install and run under Windows 95 
  26. should you choose to install it.

  28. OmniPage Limited Edition - This software is 16-bits but works properly under
  29. Windows 95.  OmniPage Limited Edition is used for scanning pages of text and
  30. converting them into a word processor format so you can then edit the text.

  32. Documentation
  33. -------------
  34. - In order to use the documentation, you must run the Acrobat Reader
  35. program which is on the CD ROM in the ACROREAD directory.  To execute,
  36. run \ACROREAD\ACROREAD.EXE from your CD ROM and follow the screen instructions.
  37. Refer to the printed Installation Guide on how to read the manual for each 
  38. specific software.

  40. Older Microtek Interface Cards and Windows 95
  41. ---------------------------------------------

  43. If you plan to use a MS-PCZ or MS-PNR interface card with your scanner under 
  44. Windows 95, please refer to the \ScanWiz\cards.rtf file of the CD ROM for 
  45. installation instructions.  This file can be openned with any word processor 
  46. which can read a Rich Text Format (RTF) file such as Windows 95 Wordpad 
  47. application.  The .INF files for these two types of cards can be found in 
  48. the \ScanWiz\DISK1 subdirectory of the CD ROM.  This document refers to a 
  49. disk called the Drivers disk.  You can use the .INF files whenever the document
  50. refers to the Drivers diskette.

  54. - Win 95 - This file contains installation instructions for Windows 95.
  55. Install under Windows 95 system only.

  57. - Win NT - This file contains installation instructions for Windows NT.

  59. - Troubleshooting icon - This icon contains the most common questions and
  60. problems when using a Microtek scanner.
  61.  
  62. - Omnipage - This icon contains information about how to use OmniPage Limited
  63. Edition and OmniPage professional with Microtek scanners.
  64. Install under Windows 3.1x and 95 system only.
  65.  
  66. - ASPI cards - This icon contains information about Adaptec 1502E card which
  67. ships with the newer scanners as well as information about 
  68. configuring other Adaptec ASPI cards.

  70. - Older cards - This option discusses older Microtek interface cards such as
  71. MS-PNR and MS-PCZ.
