  36. B. Late-breaking news regarding your Windows driver

  39. I. User hints
  40. -------------
  41. Printing is very slow
  42. Check your Print Options settings in the Media/Options screen.  If MicroWeave
  43. is selected, monochrome printing will be much slower than usual.  (Color
  44. printing speed is not affected by MicroWeave).  Deselect MicroWeave to increase
  45. print speed.  If you are printing in monochrome, select MicroWeave only for 
  46. presentation quality printing.
  47.  
  48. Other ways to speed up your printing include turning on High Speed mode,
  49. turning off halftoning, printing in monochrome instead of color, and printing
  50. in a lower resolution.
  51.  
  52. Windows 3.0
  53. The driver does not support Windows 3.0.  Please upgrade to Windows 3.1
  54. or a later version.
  55.  
  56. EGA and CGA displays
  57. The driver does not function properly with EGA and CGA displays.
  58. Either use the standard Windows driver (available from Microsoft)
  59. or upgrade your monitor to VGA.
  60.  
  61. Freeing up memory
  62. If you need to free up some additional memory when not printing, try closing
  63. the EPSON Spooler.  Use Alt-Tab to switch to the spooler and close it in the
  64. normal manner.
  65.  
  66. Image Settings image does not look good
  67. The image provided works best with displays that support 256 colors or more.
  68. Try changing your display driver (via the Control Panel) to display 256 colors
  69. or more.  If your display adapter supports only 16 colors and your display
  70. driver does not render the image well on screen, you can replace the image
  71. with another of your own choice.  Simply double-click on the image.  You can
  72. then load in any .BMP file which is 1-bit, 4-bit, or 8-bit type. (Note that
  73. if you try to load a 24-bit type .BMP file, you will get an "Unsupported Format"
  74. error).  Depending on the image you choose, the preview functions may not work.
  75. If in the future you wish to return to using the Epson-provided image, you can
  76. load it by double-clicking the image again.  It is named EPSON.BMP and
  77. is stored in your Windows \SYSTEM subdirectory.

  79. Dither options, Media Types, etc., cannot be selected
  80. The driver limits the choices you can make to those which produce useful
  81. output.  For example, if you select 720dpi, only the Diffused halftoning
  82. methods are available.
  83.  
  84. Color text does not print correctly
  85. Use one of the Diffused halftone methods.
  86.  
  87. EPSON Spool Manager fails to print
  88. Use the standard Windows Print Manager by checking the "Use Print Manager 
  89. for this port" check box in the queue setup dialog of the EPSON Spool 
  90. Manager window.
  91.  
  92. "This driver cannot be updated because it is currently being used by Windows"
  93. This error may occur if you try to reinstall the driver.  Close the
  94. EPSON Spooler and try again.
  95.  
  96. First line near the top margin does not print correctly
  97. When printing at 720dpi with MicroWeave turned on, the output 
  98. near the top margin may be slightly distorted. To avoid this problem,
  99. use your application program to lower the top margin position.  
  100.  
  101. SETUP.EXE does not install the driver
  102. When you execute SETUP.EXE opening the Control Panel, the driver will not be installed 
  103. because the Control Panel overwrite WIN.INI.
  104. Close the Control Panel and execute SETUP.EXE again.

  107. II. Application notes
  108. ----------------------
  109. Micrografx Designer 4.0
  110. Imported grayscale images may print as black due to a bug in Designer.
  111. To print correctly, do one of the following:
  112. a) Change your Ink setting to Color (if you have a color printer), or
  113. b) Select a non-Diffused Halftone method, or
  114. c) Set your video display adaptor to 256 color mode, or
  115. d) Update your version of Designer
  116.  
  117. Adobe Photoshop 2.5
  118. Printing to a file may cause a General Protection Fault.  Upgrade to version 2.5.1.
  119. or above.
  120.  
  121. S3 video drivers
  122. If your graphics card uses S3 chips, you may find that some parts of the driver
  123. do not display correctly on screen.  This does not affect printing.  Contact the
  124. manufacturer of your card for a video driver update.
  125.  
  126. AmiPro 3.0
  127. There is a possibility of a Gereral Protection Fault error when you
  128. try to print a large image file through AmiPro if the background printing 
  129. feature is turned ON.  If you encounter this problem, disable the
  130. background printing feature with the following procedure:
  131. 1) Choose Tools/User Setup.
  132. 2) Choose Options.
  133. 3) Click "Print in Background" check box to clear up this option if it is 
  134.    turned ON (checked).
  135.  
  136. CorelDRAW! 5.0E2
  137. If you experience a General Protection Fault Error or distorted print-outs when
  138. trying to print B/W or 2-color images with this version of CorelDRAW!, please
  139. try the following:
  140. 1) Open CORELPRN.INI with a text editor. The CORELPRN.INI file is stored in
  141.    the COREL50\CONFIG subdirectory for Corel 5.0 (i.e., C:\COREL50\CONFIG\CORELPRN.INI).
  142. 2) Go to the section labeled:   [Config]
  143. 3) Find the following line:     DumpEntireBitmap=1
  144.    Change to read:              DumpEntireBitmap=0
  145. 4) Save and close the CORELPRN.INI file.
  146. 5) RESTART CorelDRAW!.
  147.  
  148. Microsoft Excel 5.0
  149. If your display adapter is set up to display more than 256 colors, you may
  150. experience ink bleeding when printing color charts or graphs in 720 dpi
  151. resolution. If you encounter this problem, try one of the following:
  152.   o Set up your video adapter to display 256 or 16 colors only.
  153.   o Print your Excel charts and graphs in 360 dpi resolution.

  155. III. Using the driver with older Epson Stylus printers
  156. ------------------------------------------
  157. This driver does not support the Stylus 300, 800 and 1000 models. If you 
  158. intend to use this driver with one of these printers, select Stylus 800+ 
  159. when installing the driver and note the following restrictions:
  160.  
  161. a) MicroWeave will not function correctly.
  162. b) You must run the Calibration utility to enable High Speed mode.
  163. c) Correct operation is not guaranteed.
