  7. Congratulations on your purchase of the Canon Color Bubble Jet Printer
  8. BJC-600.  We are sure you'll appreciate its exceptional print quality
  9. using both color and black inks, flexible paper handling, fast printing
  10. speed, and trouble-free operation.

  12. As with most software and hardware products, information is made available
  13. after the development of the manual.  Updated information regarding the
  14. BJC-600 is provided in this READ.ME file.  Should the information in this
  15. READ.ME file be inaccurate or you require further explanation,  please

  18. Upgrading from Version 2.0b to 2.0c
  19. ===================================
  20. Please remove the file "_windeb_.txt" in your root directory, if this file
  21. exists.

  24. Color Printing
  25. ==============
  26. Use the following selections for printing:
  27.  
  28. - For fast color printing:
  29.  
  30.     - 1. Select the "Plain Paper" in the "Media Type" box
  31.     - 2. Select the "Color" in the "Print Color" box
  32.     - 3. Select the "High Speed" or "High Quality" button in the
  33.          "Print Quality" box.  The "High Speed" will result in the
  34.          fastest print speed.
  35.     - 4. Select "Options...", then select "Pattern" in the
  36.              "Halftone" box
  37.  
  38. - For high quality color printing:
  39.  
  40.     - 1. Select "Coated Paper" in the "Media Type" box
  41.     - 2. Select an desired print color in the "Print color" box
  42.     - 3. Select "High Quality" in the "Print Quality" box
  43.     - 4. Select the "360x360dpi" in the "Resolution" box
  44.     - 5. Select any desired Halftone setting in the "Options..." 
  45.              dialog
  46.  
  47. - For Screen-Matched color printing:
  48.   The following selections are recommended to perform its function
  49.   properly.
  50.  
  51.     - 1. Select the "Coated Paper" in the "Media Type" box
  52.     - 2. Select the "Screen-Matched Color" in the "Print Color" box
  53.     - 3. Select the "High Quality" button in the "Print Quaity" box
  54.          but "Enhanced Black"
  55.     - 4. Select the "360x360dpi" in the "Resolution" box
  56.     - 5. Select the "Options...", then select "Pattern" in the
  57.          "Halftone" box
  58.  
  59. Printing Envelopes
  60. ==================
  61. When printing envelopes with the BJC-600 and the auto-sheet feeder, move
  62. the paper selection lever on the auto-sheet feeder to the forward
  63. position.  This will result in the best paper handling for envelopes.
  64. Also, make sure to print with the option 'Print Current Page' or set the
  65. print range to be from '1' to '1'.  This will ensure that the application
  66. will not prompt you to insert a second envelope after printing.

  68. For thick paper, open the cover and set the green paper thickness lever
  69. (inside the printer) to the up position.
  70.  
  71.  
  72. Windows System Options
  73. ======================
  74. When setting up your Windows system to print with the BJC-600, please
  75. consider the following options to optimize your printing performance.
  76.  
  77. - Fast Printing Direct to Port: This option, available from within Printers
  78.   in the Windows Control Panel, should always be ON for best printing
  79.   results.
  80.  
  81. - Use DOS 5.0 or higher & HIMEM command to make 620 K of 'real' memory
  82.   available.
  83.  
  84. - Ensure a minimum of 4 to 8MB of permanent Windows SWAPFILE.
  85.  
  86. - Increase your RAM memory to more than 8MB. Increasing RAM memory will
  87.   result in faster printing and reduce compatibility problems with
  88.   applications.  If you must print in a low memory situation, and are
  89.   having problems with your application, try turning off screen-matched
  90.   color or reducing resolution to correct the problem.
  91.  
  92. - ATI display driver. If you are using ATI's display driver version 1.5 and
  93.   are experiencing problems when printing, do the following:
  94.  
  95.     - 1. Run the program "FlexDesk Control Panel" supplied with your
  96.              ATI driver.
  97.     - 2. Click on the "Advanced..." button on the main dialog.
  98.     - 3. Select "Off" for the "Device Bitmaps" selection.
  99.     - 4. Press "OK" to exit "FlexDesk Advanced Settings" dialog.
  100.     - 5. Press "OK" to exit "FlexDesk Control Panel."
  101.     - 6. You will prompt to restart Windows. Press "Yes" to this query.

  104. Operation under Windows 3.0
  105. ===========================
  106. If you are installing the BJC-600 driver version 2.0 under Windows 3.0 and
  107. you wish to use its On-Line help, you need to manually copy a newer version
  108. of the file WINHELP.EXE from the BJC-600 Installation diskette to your
  109. Windows directory.  For instance, if your Windows directory is C:\WINDOWS
  110. and your BJC-600 Installation diskette is in drive A:, under DOS you would type:
  111.  
  112.         copy a:\winhelp.exe c:\windows
  113.  
  114. Alternatively, you can use the Windows file manager to copy this file.
