- About Installation
- --------------------
-
- Q1. After installing WinView 505 everything look well and WinView 505 can
- be active by applications, but the motion capture function can't work
- and the network card fail to work too.
-
- A1. Under Windows 95
-
- The WinView 505 SETUP program is a PnP (Plug and Play) installer under
- Windows 95, that is, it can read the system resource information from
- Windows 95 and prevent WinView 505 from conflicting with other existed
- devices.
-
- In most cases you can just follow the indications of SETUP and install
- WinView 505 successfully, but sometimes it won't work! The reason is NOT
- all the device drivers used under Windows 95 fully support the resource
- registry of Windows 95.
-
- For example a network card driver uses an IRQ in the system but doesn't
- register this information to Windows 95, so WinView 505 SETUP can't know
- this IRQ is occupied by the device and enable this IRQ select option to
- users. If the user choose this IRQ number used the same as the network
- card so unlucky, there could be something strange in using WinView 505 or
- network card like WinView 505 can't do motion capture or network card
- can't link to network!
-
- There are some methods to resolve this problem. The first one is running
- WinView 505 SETUP program again and choose a different IRQ number and
- restart system again. Another way is changing the WinView 505 IRQ
- resource from the System icon of Control Panel group of Windows 95. Of
- cource installing a new network card driver which is fully supporting
- the resource registry of Windows 95 is a best way.
-
- UNDER WINDOWS 3.1
-
- Under Windows 3.1 no such standard resource information described above
- can be retrieved from system, so no extra controls can be added in
- WinView 505 SETUP program to prevent WinView 505 from conflicting with
- other existed devices.
-
- That's mean you had better been familiar with the using of the resource
- of system and devices or to setup WinView 505 successfully will be
- something by your fortune. NOT only WinView 505, but also almost all ISA
- devices got this problem under Windows 3.1.
-
- If your system has installed both Windows 3.1 and Windows 95, you can
- get the resource information from Windows 95 and use it to Windows 3.1.
- You may also use some diagnostic tools to know what your system resource
- information is. Microsoft Diagnostics (MSD.EXE, can be found in DOS
- directory) which can report the system resource information is a example.
-
- By the way what is the system resources? They could be IRQ, memory, I/O
- port or DMA.
-
-
- Q2. While installing WinView 505 the 'Select IRQ Number' dialog box indicates
- that all IRQs are used by other devices, but all the radio buttons are
- enabled and can be selected.
-
- A2. The above situation can only be encountered under Windows 95. Normally
- WinView 505 will disable the select button if the corresponding resource
- is occupied. It's a special condition that all the IRQ resources are used
- up, so SETUP program can't do anything more if it disable all the
- selections. For this reason SETUP program do enable all the radio buttons
- and leave the conflict problem to the users.
-
- If this unfortunate situation is encountered, please refer the manuals of
- your mother board or other devices and adjust them to free one IRQ number
- which can be used by WinView 505
-
-
- Q3. The I/O port and Memory Address Selection are not the same as the
- description of the shipping manual.
-
- A3. The WinView 505 manual says SETUP program offers four ranges of I/O ports
- for users, they are 400-403, 500-503, 600-603 and 700-703 in hexadecimal.
- In fact the four ranges of I/O ports in SETUP program were changed to
- 588-58B, 598-59B, 5A8-5AB and 5B8-5BB in hexadecimal. In order to make
- the least conflicts with other devices, this change is necessary.
-
- For the same reason one of the memory range is changed from
- 0F00000-0F07FFF to C8000-CFFFF in hexadecimal.
-
-
- ----------------------
- About Uninstallation
- ----------------------
-
- Q4. After running uninstallation all the WinView 505 files and settings are
- removed from computer except one thing: the X= option of EMM386.EXE
-
- A4. When uninstalled WinView 505 from system the uninstaller didn't know
- how real change was made at that time. Maybe some other devices used the
- X= option of EMM386.EXE too, so uninstaller never remove the X= option
- from CONFIG.SYS to make sure the system can work well after
- uninstallation.
-
-
- Q5. The WinView 505 directory (ex. C:\WINV505) can't be removed after
- running WinView 505 uninstallation.
-
- A5. There are two possible reasons:
-
- 1. There are some new files added into the WinView 505 directory. The
- uninstaller detects these files which are not copied to the WinView
- 505 at installing time, for the save reason uninstaller keep these
- files and leave them to users. So WinView 505 directory can't be
- removed too.
-
- 2. Duplex installation. If someone has installed WinView 505 once and
- installed it again without uninstalling the previous installation, the
- installer record the directory and file situations and found WinView
- 505 directory has existed at that time. When doing uninstall, the
- uninstaller just tried to recover the directory and file. Since
- WinView directory exists before installing, so it exists after
- uninstalling too.
-
-

- Running Applications
- ----------------------
-
- Q6. Occuring General Protection Fault while capturing palette in Microsoft
- VidCap for Windows 3.1 under Windows 95.
-
- A6. Change your VidCap from for Windows 3.1 to for Windows 95.
-
-
- Q7. When running some applications (ex. Microsoft VidCap for Windows 3.1),
- another capture driver is active instead of WinView 505 capture driver.
-
- A7. Microsoft VidCap for Windows 3.1 only supports single capture driver and
- can't handle multiple capture drivers. Please upgrade your VidCap from
- for Windows 3.1 to for Windows 95. When you running VidCap for Windows 95
- you can select different capture drivers from the Options pulldown menu.
- To act WinView 505 capture driver just selects the capture driver named
- 'Leadtek WinView 505 Video Capture Driver'.
-
-
- Q8. SPECOM VisionTime can't capture video.
-
- A8. SPECOM VisionTime can't support multiple capture drivers. So before
- installing WinView 505, you had better removed all the other msvideo
- capture drivers.
-
- UNDER WINDOWS 3.1
-
- Retrieve SYSTEM.INI in the Windows 3.1 directory and remove all the lines
- with 'MSVIDEO=' in the [drivers] section and save the modified
- SYSTEM.INI. Then run inView 505 SETUP program.
-
- UNDER WINDOWS 95
-
- The first step retrieve SYSTEM.INI in the Windows 95 directory and remove
- all the lines with 'MSVIDEO=' in the [drivers] section and save the
- modified SYSTEM.INI. The next step you must remove all the msvideo
- registry information. Run the REGEDIT.EXE which can be found in Windows
- 95 directory. Remove all the keys under the key below:
-
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\control\MediaResources\msvideo
-
- Then run the WinView 505 SETUP program.
-
- In next release WinView 505 SETUP program will enhance its functions.
- To remove the other msvideo capture drivers can be done by SETUP. Users
- can choose to keep all the msvideo capture drivers or remove them.
