  1.                        EtherExpress 16TP LEDS

  3.   INTEL EtherExpress(tm) 16 FAMILY OF NETWORK ADAPTERS

  6.   The LEDs on earlier versions of the EtherExpress 16TP adapters were
  7.   vertical.  The LEDs on the current versions are horizontal.  With 
  8.   this change in orientation some functions also changed:
  9.  
  10.   - On the earlier versions of the EtherExpress 16TP adapters, the Link
  11.     light would blink as soon as you connected the cable to
  12.     the RJ-45 port.  Most of the newer boards work the same way, but if
  13.     the LED does not start blinking when you connect the cable, LOAD
  14.     THE DRIVER.  There was one version of the board that required
  15.     the driver be loaded before the Link light would work.  This also
  16.     applies to the EtherExpress 16C and FlashC.

  18.   - The newer boards (with the horizontal LEDs including the EtherExpress
  19.     16TP, 16C, FLASHC, and MCA/TP) can detect if the polarity of the RX
  20.     and TX lines is reversed and compensate.
  21.       
  22.   - The TX/RX LED on the earlier versions of the EtherExpress 16TP
  23.     doubled as a POWER light.  The newer boards do not have this
  24.     feature.
