  5. This is a README file that is to be transferred with PPD files. 
  6.  
  7. PostScript(R) Printer Description (a.k.a. PPD) files are just text files
  8. containing information about special features available on PostScript
  9. printers. These files are in a very specific format that can be read
  10. by software applications. The information is used by printer driver 
  11. software for decision making purposes or to invoke particular features
  12. of the printer.

  14. There is one PostScript Printer Description file for each individual
  15. version of each PostScript printer (although more than one version can
  16. be combined in a single file if they are functionally identical).
  17.  
  18. A file called "_names.txt" should be included with every release of
  19. PPD files. This file contains a mapping between the 8 character file 
  20. names and the PostScript printers that they correspond to.
  21.  
  22. The PPD files on this disk have been compressed using the PKZIP utility.
  23. Use the PKUNZIP utility to decompress the PPD files.
