1. HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
To run any of the Web Factory suite of products, you will need the following:
- Windows 95 or NT 4.0 operating system
- 486 PC (Pentium recommended)
- 16 MG RAM (as always, the more RAM, the better)
- 8 MG free hard drive space
2. KNOWN PROBLEMS
RTF to HTML Conversion
-------------------------------
Conversion of tables from RTF to HTML is not complete, and may have erratic results. This is also true when tables contain lists. In some cases, font face and list formatting will not be converted. The RTF to HTML conversion will be strengthened in future versions.
Test Window
---------------
(1) The Test window allows you to test links and fancy moving text such as marquee and blink. If your computer is connected to the Internet, you can even test links to pages on the World Wide Web in the Test window. Being a simple browser, the Test window does not support CGI scripts, functioning forms, server-side image maps, Netscape plug-ins, Java applets, VBScript or JavaScript. To test such features of your Web page, it is recommended that you save the file and use the "Launch browser with file" option on the View menu to see the results on a fully-enabled browser such as Netscape Navigator 3.0 or Internet Explorer 3.0. Web Factory does not provide such browsers, and assumes that you have already installed one or more of such browsers on your computer.
(2) The Test window also allows you to test your client-side image maps. However, the Test window treats elliptical and polygon-shaped hot-spots as rectangular hot-spots. Thus, for fine testing of elliptical or polygon-shaped hot-spots on a client-side image map, it is recommended that you save the file and use the "Launch browser with file" option on the View menu.
(3) While using the Test Window to browse pages on the Word Wide Web, Web Factory places temporary files (wfc***.tmp) in the Windows Temp directory. These files are normally removed from this directory when you close Web Factory. However, should Web Factory close unexpectedly, these temporary files will remain in the Windows Temp directory.
Launch Browser
-------------------
The View menu contains the Launch Browser with File options which allow you to open a browser such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer, showing the current file. Web Factory assumes these browsers are installed in the standard locations, and looks for them there. If your browsers are stored elsewhere, select Preferences from the File menu and correct the path for the browsers. In some instances, the Custom browser option may not work. Note also that the current file must be saved in order for these Launch Browser with File options to be accessible.
Frames
--------
When specifying the html file to display in a frame, the "Fractions of the Remainder" option in the Frame Size portion of the dialog box does not work properly. Rather than allotting the remainder of the window to the current frame, it will add another frame. This will be corrected in future versions.
