  5. Welcome to the SmartDesk Personal Web Suite, the easiest and most flexible
  6. way to have your own web site on the internet. For detailed operating 
  7. instructions, please access the online documentation for the Web Suite
  8. located at http://www.smartdesk.com/websuite/docs.

  12.   o WebDesk bundle
  13.   
  14.     The web suite nows comes bundled with the SmartDesk WebDesk product.
  15.     This interacts with your desktop system providing access to your
  16.     favorite applications and internet resources from within any browser.
  17.     Now your files and system resources can be accessed locally or 
  18.     remotely by authorized users.  Public and private areas are included
  19.     for your visitors and your own use.  Features include applications
  20.     and document management, calendaring, customized browser-based 
  21.     menuing, system files access, drive management, and more.

  23.   o High-performance transaction mode
  24.  
  25.       The web sever can now be run in standard mode or high-performance 
  26.       mode.  Standard mode allows the server configuration to be 
  27.       customized and altered on-the-fly and updated using the HOT FLASH
  28.       option.  High-performance mode does not allow for customization of
  29.       the server itself and instead relies on embedded "C" code for server
  30.       processing.  This provides greater performance at the expense of loss
  31.       of customization capabilities.  Either mode may be used and can be 
  32.       set from the server configuration page (/system/srvcnfg.ap).

  34.   o VNS configuration page
  35.  
  36.     The Virtual Name Server can now be configured using the VNS 
  37.     configuration screen (/system/vnsconfg.ap).  This lets you customize
  38.     the server's interaction with the VNS, AP Hosting system, and VNS
  39.     redirector.  It is a secure page and requires access to the server 
  40.     configuration area.

  42.   o VNS redirector for existing web sites
  43.           
  44.     The VNS redirector integrates your personal web server with an 
  45.     existing web site.  When enabled, the server will update a 
  46.     user-specified web page with your current IP address and automatically
  47.     FTP it up to an existing web site each time the server is started.
  48.     Likewise, you can specify a different page to be automatically 
  49.     uploaded whenever the server is turned off.  This lets you maintain
  50.     a "contact" page on your existing web site whenever your personal
  51.     web server is online and display a different message when you are 
  52.     unavailable.

  54.   o Support for "include" statements within active pages
  55.     
  56.     In addtion to external library support (provided by the SmartDesk
  57.     Librarian as part of the VM SDK), Active Pages now support the inline
  58.     inclusion of external files.  These can include FGL scripts, JAVA, HTML,
  59.     and combinations of these and other supported languages.  External files
  60.     that are accessed via the include statement are directly linked into
  61.     the calling active page and stored internally as a single integrated
  62.     page. This greatly optimizes performance and ease of development.

  64.   o Active Page optimizations
  65.   
  66.       Creation, storage, and execution of active pages has been further 
  67.       enhanced through internal architectural changes to the server. This
  68.       includes optimzed use of system resources and memory resulting in 
  69.       overall faster performance as well.

  71.   o Revised SmartDesk web site

  73.     Corrseponding to this release, the main SmartDesk web site has been
  74.     redesigned and reengineered to better provide you with access to 
  75.     product and technical information.  If you have not been there
