- Important Notes for VideoWork
-
- Welcome to the world of multimedia video production!
-
- VideoWork is your best choice for video capturing and editing to produce
- PC multimedia presentation programs. The following lists the important
- information about VideoWork that is not contained in the documentation or
- on-line help message in the software.
-
- 1. Any function that is not included in the user's manual will be explained
- in the help message provided with the software.
-
- 2. Questions & Answers listed below would give you assitance on operation
- in VideoWork.
-
- Q: My AVI file does not playback in the right colors, and the video and
- audio cannot match with each other. Some AVI files can even not
- playback (with sound only, no images). What is the problem?
-
- A: Please chech whether the "Use MCI Playback When AVI File not Changed"
- option is enabled in the Preferences dialog box under the File menu.
- If yes, disable this option. VideoWork will call Windows MCI driver to
- playback AVI files when this option is enabled. This MCI driver is
- supplied by Microsoft Video for Windows Runtime or your PC Video card
- vendor. If you want to solve this problem, please contact Microsoft or
- your hardware vendor.
-
-
- Q: It takes very long to execute every command in VideoWork. How could I
- configure my system to obtain the best performance?
-
- A: If your system RAM is large enough, open a RAM drive and set VideoWork
- working directory to this drive in the Preferences dialog box. Also,
- if your hard disk contains much free space and is fast enough, set
- your AVI file compressor to "None" and then use a better compressor
- when saving the file. Please close any unused AVI file while using
- a RAM drive.
-
-
- Q: My hard disk still has very large free space. Why can't I open files
- for running out of space?
-
- A: First, check on your working directory specified in the Preferences
- dialog box and see if there is enough space in that hard disk. (Please
- switch to DOS or File Manager to check it out.) If the space is not enough,
- please close all the unused files for editing. If the space is enough
- and you can still not open files, maybe the resources of the MCI driver
- are all occupied. Please close all the unused MDI windows. If there is
- still no improvement, try to change your working directory.
-
-
- Q: Why didn't I get the right result after changing the playback volume?
-
- A: Some drivers provided with sound boards do not offer the capability of
- changing sound volume. VideoWork does not check on this capability.
-
-
- Q: When Video Viewer is opened, the playing action of the AVI files
- becomes very slow. What is the reason?
-
- A: The reason is that when Video Viewer is in Preview mode, it will stop
- the timer message, which will occupy some time slots. The play action of AVI
- files therefore is influenced. Switching Video Viewer to Overlay mode
- or closing Video Viewer will solve the problem.
-
-
- Q: Why is Video Viewer dimmed (disabled)?
-
- A: Video Viewer will be disabled when the window driver of the capture
- card is not installed or failed, or when the capture card encounters
- a failure on installation, i.e. hardware conflict. Please check on
- your hardware manual to figure out the problem.
-
-
- Q: Why is the audio capturing function dimmed (disabled)?
-
- A: The audio capturing function is disabled while the driver of the sound
- card fails or sound card installation fails.
-
- Q: I have sucessfully installed the sound card and drivers, but I still cannot capture
- the Video with sound?
-
- A: First, check to see if the "Capture With Audio" is set in the capture dialog box.
- Second, check to see if you have turn on the line in volume of your sound card.
- Check the "Capture With Audio", turn on the line in volume (Normally in a Mixer program)
- and try it again.
-
- Q: When will the Preview or Overlay mode be dimmed (disabled)?
-
- A: Not all the capture cards simultaneously support Preview and Overlay
- modes. One of them is dimmed because the capture card does not support
- that mode.
-
-
- Q: It is not convenient to select a frame fragment in video window, and
- it is also slow to select in film window. Is there any way to select
- more quickly?
-
- A: Please select the frame fragment in film window. First click
- at the location you want to start selection. When you see a blinking
- cursor appear, use the Home, End, PageUp, PageDown and arrow keys to
- locate the last frame you want to select. Then click while holding the
- Shift key.
-
-
- Q: Why do the images in my video become blurred and the colors darkened
- after applying several effects?
-
- A: Some compressors, including Microsoft Video 1, Intel Indeo, SuperMac,
- and Microsoft RLE, are lossy compressors which would cause data lost
- if utilized too many times. As a result the images look blurred in view.
- Please change the video format as no compressor (None), and then
- proceed with applying effects.
-
-
- Q: Before I apply the Insert or Paste Insert function, there are 16 frames
- in clipboard. Why are there only 10 frames left after pasting?
-
- A: VideoWork will make some transformation to the pasted fragment to fit
- the destination AVI, such as video format, compressor, frame rate,
- audio format, sampling rate, etc. If the frame number after pasting
- does not match that before pasting, maybe the frame rate is different
- between the pasted fragment and destination AVI. If you want to keep
- the original frame number, please change the frame rate of the selected
- frame fragment to be the same as the destination AVI with the "Keep
- Playback Speed" option disabled before cutting or copying it to the
- clipboard.
-
-
- Q: Why can't I crop an AVI file?
-
- A: The Crop function will be disabled if the frame size of your AVI file
- is no more than 30 (width) by 40 (height) pixels. Also in the Crop
- dialog box, you must set the dimensions larger than 30 by 40 pixels.
-
-
- Q: Why can't I apply some of the video effects such as Mosaic and Emboss?
-
- A: Some of the video effects can be applied only when your AVI file is
- 24-bit true color format. Please change the video format to 24-bit
- true color mode before applying these effects.
-
-
- Q: How could I undo an audio effect?
-
- A: After applying any effect under the Audio menu, there won't be a new
- AVI video window and you can't undo the operation. Please reload the
- AVI file by using the Revert command under the File menu.
-
-
- Q: How could I paste audio to an AVI file using Paste Overwrite command?
-
- A: When there is audio in both clipboard source and destination AVI, you
- can paste the source audio to the destination AVI by the Mix function.
- First copy the source audio track (audio only) to the clipboard, then
- go to the destination AVI and move the frame sequence indicator to the
- location you want to start pasting the audio, and choose the Mix command
- from the Edit menu. In the Mix dialog box, set the destination
- transparency to 100% and the source transparency 0%. In this way the
- audio track of the destination AVI will be replaced with that of the
- source.
- When an AVI file with audio is pasted to an AVI file without audio,
- the final result of the destination AVI is without audio. Instead, you
- can paste the AVI without audio to the one with audio to solve the
- problem.
