The following are the recognized settings for the *.DEF files:
BBSTAG: [N] This setting enables BBS*.TAG files if they are
present
[Y] This setting will disable them
TAG: [N] This setting will allow users to make and use
taglines
[Y] This setting will disable them
MONO: [0] This forces the display to be Non-Monochrome
[1] This forces the display to be Monochrome
[2] This will make WWIVEdit auto-detect the first time
it is used with this particular definition.
[3] This will force WWIVEdit to auto-detect every time.
MCI: [] No characters following ^P are interpreted as MCI
characters.
[G-Z,g-z] The MCI characters recognized by the original
MERLIN MCI Mod.
This has the same parameter format as COLORS below.
LINES: [10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,0,-1]
This setting will give the following amount of
lines based on security level:
SL Lines Allowed
0-19 10 (first number)
20-29 20 (second number)
30-39 30
40-49 40
50-59 50
60-69 60
70-79 70
80-89 80
90-99 90 (ninth number)
100-109 The amount specified in the %4
parameter (tenth number)
>109 As many as there are memory for.
So a positive number is the number allowed for a
particular SL range, 0 is the value in the %4
parameter (passed by the BBS), and -1 is as many as
memory will allow.
KEYBOARD: [0] This setting is for 8088/8086. It forces keyboard
writes to go directly to the buffer.
[1] This setting is for 80286/386/486. It forces
keyboard writes to go through BIOS channels. This
is needed if you run Desqview. Note, if one
setting doesn't work for you, try the other. This
setting affects WWIV Macros, and a QUOTE: []
setting of 1.
[2] This setting will attempt to auto-detect what kind
of keyboard you are using.
CHATKEY: [] Specifies that there is no chat key.
[L] Specifies that the left shift only is the chat key.
[R] Specifies that the right shift key is the chat key.
[C] Specifies that the control key is the chat key.
[A] Specifies that Alt is the chat key.
[LRCA] Specifies that all 4 keys have to be down for chat.
Any combination of the 4 in any order is
permissible.
DOSKEY: [] This has the exact same format as CHATKEY. It
invokes a dos shell.
DIVIDER: [] Specifies that there is no divider
[FILENAME.EXT]
Specifies that the contents of FILENAME.EXT should
be placed between User text and User Taglines. If
you used the WWIVEDIT.DIV file in WWIVEdit 2.2,
place that filename in the [].
NOTAG: [] Specifies that there is no "NoTag" file (BBS Tags)
NOPERSON: [] Specifies that there is no "NoTag" file (Personal
Tags)
A filename in brackets specifies a "NoTag" file. A
NoTag file is a list of "strings" that if found any
are found in the destination line of a message
header, will cause the BBS or Personal taglines to
be disabled. See WWIVEDIT.DOC for more info.
SETUP: [0] Specifies that there is nowhere to get the user
information from, and it should be assumed that its
the #1 account.
[1] Specifies that the user info comes from CHAIN.TXT
[2] Specifies that the user info comes from EDITOR.INF
** This is the correct setting for WWIV 4.21a+ **
RESULT: [0] Specifies that WWIVEdit can't return a value to
WWIV specifying the Anonymous state of a message.
[1] Tells WWIVEdit to use the RESULT.ED format
(EDITINFO.MOD)
[2] Tells WWIVEDIT to use the FEDIT.INF format (FEDIT)
** This is the correct setting for WWIV 4.21a+ **
REPLY: [0] Means that users will not ever be prompted by the
"Do you want a reply?" question.
[1] Means that users will be prompted for the "Reply?"
question on if:
1) It is E-Mail (the destination has either # or
@ in it), and
2) They have request to be asked in the WWIVEdit
defaults section.
* * This is the recommended setting * *
[2] Means that users will be prompted for the "Reply?"
question if they ask for it in the WWIVEdit
Defaults section. This includes on public message
bases. The current sentiment on the Nets is that
this is a waste of bandwidth, and I agree, however,
I am still leaving it open to the sysops
discretion.
WARNTIME: [n] Specifies that after N seconds of inactivity,
WWIVEdit should beep at the user to get his
attention. (0=Never)
ABORTTIME: [n] Specifies that after N seconds of inactivity,
WWIVEdit shouldn't abort the current message.
(0=Never). This number should be larger (or 0)
than the number specified in WARNTIME.
ESCTICKS: [n] Specifies how many "ticks" before "Escaped" keys
are taken to be the escape value. For local
definitions, this should be 0. For remote
definitions, this value should be around 350.
WWIVEDITMACROS:[N] Specifies that WWIVEdit macros can not be used.
[Y] Specifies that they can be used. 0 is recommended
for remote settings and 1 for local setting.
WWIVEdit Macros are the macros specified in
MACROS.LCL.
QUOTER: [0] Specified that No quoter, or an unsupported quoter
is installed.
[1] Specifies that Gooes's QUOTE 3.01 or later is
installed. This setting enables the command /QUOTE
in WWIVEdit
[2] Specifies WWIV 4.21a's QUOTES.TXT
PREFIX: [string] Up to 10 characters to put before quoted text
(default is >)
PERSONALDICT: [N] Specifies that additions to the dictionary go to a
common file.
[Y] Specifies that additions to the dictionary go to a
personal dictionary in the dictionary directory
with the name U###.DIC where ### is the user
number.
LOCAL: [N] Specifies that this is a REMOTE definition
[Y] Specifies that this is a LOCAL definition
This parameter affects a lot of little things. In
particular it is linked to the .KEY files.
DIRECTVIDEO: [N] Specifies that WWIVEdit should not use Direct Video
writes.
[Y] Specifies that WWIVEdit should use Direct Video
writes. This can not be used for REMOTE
definitions, and will cause snow on older CGA
cards. With direct video set, the color map for
WWIVEdit is fixed, and not subject to WWIV
translation. If you need different colors in it
(for example you don't like flashing red), then you
have to get a program called WEMODIFY to modify the
color map.
SCROLL: [N] Specifies that Smooth Scrolling should be set off
[Y] Specifies that Smooth Scrolling should be set On
Smooth scrolling is noticeable when you go down
from the last line of the "window" or up from the
top line. The screen will only scroll one line in
either direction instead on the full page. This
function will not work on Remote definitions
because of how it is accomplished.
COLORTITLE: [N] Means that users can't change colors in the title
[Y] Means that they can. Requires WWIV 4.21a+ or
EDITINFO.MOD.
BBS: [0] Means that WWIVEdit isn't running under any BBS
[1] Means that WWIVEdit is running under WWIV
[2] Reserved for Telegard (somewhat supported)
[3] Reserved for Eclipse (somewhat supported)
[4] Reserved for Waffle (not yet finished)
[5] Reserved for VBBS (not yet supported)
COLORS: [Range] Specifies the legal range of colors
[0-7] Means colors 0 thru 7 are legal
[0-9,A-F,a-f] Means that colors 0 thru 9, and A thru F are
legal.
[#0-#255] Means that all colors are legal
[#0-#127] Means that colors chr(0) thru chr(127) are legal
Do not put in any extra spaces as it may cause
problems.
DICTDIR: [D:\PATH] Specifies a full path to the dictionary directory.
This is in case you want to copy the dictionary
files to a RAM disk. Do not put anything if the
files are in the standard directory WWIVEDIT\DICT!
CHATMODE: [0] Normal Split Screen Two-Way Chat
[1] "Safe" chat mode. If the user hangs up nothing bad
will happen. The only problem is that it isn't
split screen. (This is not an issue with WWIV 4.22
and above)
CURSOR: [N] When Insert/Overwrite mode is toggled, don't toggle
shape of cursor.
[Y] When Insert/Overwrite mode is toggled, change
between underscore and full box cursor. Only works
locally.
INSDIR: [Path] This specifies the default path to pop up when you
use the insert file function of the editor. If not
specified, the current directory is used.
TABSTOP: [N] Sets the tabstop to be every n'th character.
Default is 5.
The following two parameters are for compatibility with other BBS's and
have not be thoroughly tested.
FOSSIL: [0] Specifies not to use a fossil driver. For WWIV,
this is the correct setting. If COMPORT is greater
than 0, then this means that interrupt driven com
routines should be used.
[1] Specifies that a fossil driver should be used. You
must also specify a COMPORT parameter.
COMPORT: [0] Set this to 0 for local and WWIV definitions.
IMPORTANT: If you are using WWIV, and this is not
set to 0, there will definitely be problems.
If this value is non-zero, WWIVEdit will either use
interrupt driven I/O or Fossil I/O depending on the
FOSSIL parameter.
Recognized but unsupported:
ADDSL: [30] SL required to ADD to dictionary
