Hello,
This file contains all of the information which was too recent to put into the
manual or addendum. It is divided into three parts: notes on playing SimAnt,
corrections to the manual, and technical notes on running SimAnt. Use the
ARROW or CURSOR keys to scroll this text. Press ESC when you have finished
reading all of the text.
I. Notes on playing SimAnt:
SimAnt is the most recent Software Toy (TM) from MAXIS and Will Wright.
While these games can be played as a traditional games, i.e. with a goal
and a way to 'win', there are most rich as toy. SimAnt offers a AntHill of
a playfield for you, limitted only by your imagination. Experiment, play,
and enjoy.
---Daniel Goldman
II. Correction to the Manual: You will probably want to write these down.
The BACKSPACE key will stop the Yellow Ant if moving, or center on the Yellow
Ant if it is not. (The addendum lists the Space Bar as doing this).
ALT-2 will allow you to recruit ALL of the available black ants.
Ctrl-4 will change you the Patch view in the Map window.
The '+' and '-' keys mentioned in the Addendum are the GREY KEYS on the number
pad. The other '+' and '-' keys will not work.
III. Technical Notes:
--
If you are playing without a mouse, you may use the SPACEBAR or Insert key as
left mouse button, and the DELETE key as the right mouse button. Please refer
to the KEYBOARD CHART at the end of the IBM Addendum for the many key commands
available.
--
If the install locks up, or if you have problems installing, please re-run the
install with '/d' on the command line, like this:
INSTALL /d
this will disable the sound card detection which may not work with some of the
unusual hardware available for IBM-PC's.
--
SimAnt requires 560K (about 573,440 bytes) MINIMUM to run. It will run faster
with more memory. If you can, remove any TSR's or DEVICE DRIVERS which you
don't need from your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. SimAnt will take
advantage of EMS versions 3.2 and above if you have it.
--
If you are running SimAnt on a slow machine, turning off the sound will speed
the program up a bit in places. It will also use less memory.
