MURDER HOTEL is an on-line multi-
user game for WWIV. The game concept has
elements of the movies Psycho and
Thunderdome based on the game format
of the ASSASSINATION game. If you've seen
these movies and have played ASSASSINATION,
I'm sure you'll find Murder Motel a blast!
I patterned it after an adaption for the C64
of the Original game written by Sean Wagle.
I wrote the code entirely from scratch in
"C" and only used the original game as a
pattern, I have never seen the source code.
Because of this there are probably some
differences between this and the original
games.
You should be reading this
BEFORE you've even registered to play the
game. And, if you haven't opened your buffer
to save all this information, please do so NOW!
First, go to Registration so you
will be eligible to play.
Each time you logon and enter the
Motel, press 'I' to find out who your
target is. This is the ONLY person you may
kill while in the Motel. Should you
find and kill your target, you will be
assigned a new one. If you can get the
most kills in the game, you WIN!
In order to kill someone, you must
have a weapon for which they don't have
a defense. BUT you can't carry more
than two defenses or two weapons at one time.
If you attack someone who has the
defense for your weapon, you will be
thrown out of the hotel for the day
as a penalty. And by the way, someone
in the game is looking for YOU so be
careful who you trust!
ODDS AND ENDS
There are 99 rooms in the Motel
for you to explore. You will be
allowed 40 moves per day and up to
40 people can play at one time. There
are 4 weapon types and each has a
protection against it. It works as
follows:
WEAPON DEFENSE
Pistol Flak Jacket
Gas Sprayer Gas Mask
Flame Thrower Asbestos Suit
Knife Shield
Each weapon may be used indefinitely.
You can leave them anywhere you wish. It
is possible to leave all your weapons in one room...
there is no limit to the available
space. There are 25 sets of each
weapon, as well as 25 of each defense,
for a total of 200 items.
HELP & HINTS
You can gain or lose moves before
you enter by snitching on an opponent.
When you find a living player in a
room, write down where it was and who
you found. You will have to exit
([Q]uit) and re-enter the Motel in
order to squeal on someone. The same
is true should you get really stuck
and wish to read the Squeals file.
The catch to reading the Squeal
files is that you lose moves for
the game and NOT all of the squeals
may be true! Remember, I told you
to be careful who you trust!! You
GAIN moves by giving a truthful squeal.
Make sure you read the Motel Maps
at the beginning of the game. Save
these in your buffer and print them
out before you start playing. Without
these maps, you may become so lost
that you won't really enjoy the game.
MURDER MOTEL COMMANDS
(N)orth, (S)outh, (E)ast, (W)est,
(U)p and (D)own are self-explanatory.
These move you in the direction you
wish to explore. There are NO secret
passages in the Motel, so don't bother
looking for them.
(T)ake lets you take any item
you find in the Motel. You may
carry up to 4 items but only 2 of
them may be defenses.
(L)eave lets you drop an item.
A prompt will appear for each object
you are carrying in a Y/N format.
(K)ill. Use this to kill the
player you are after. It is useless
unless you are in the same room as
your target.
(I)nformation will tell you what
you are carrying, who your target is
and what objects are in the room.
Always check (I) at the beginning of
a turn to be sure of your target!
(Q)uit will return you to the
game's main menu. You may return to
the Motel if you had any moves left
when you checked out.
If you have any questions or
problems with the game, please leave
a message for the Sysop or post a
public message about it. The Sysop or
someone else will try to answer your
question.
