Castle ColdDrake, An IGM for Legend Of the Red Dragon
-------------------
Installation
------------
Simple, REALLY! Just create a directory for Castle ColdDrake to reside
in, copy ALL files contained in this archive to that directory, then
type "INSTALL." Fill in the necessary information, SAVE the config
for your first node, then select "INSTALL CASTLE COLDDRAKE." This will
write the commandline for Castle ColdDrake to your "3RDPARTY.DAT" file
and allow your users to play the game. It will also write a two-line
entry in LORD's "LOGNOW.TXT" file announcing that ColdDrake has been
installed.
After installing ColdDrake, you may now enter configuration info for
any other nodes you have; just insure that the path data matches that
of the first node. We believe that our installation program is one of
the most intuitive available, so you should have no problems using it.
On the other hand, you should *always* back up your LORD directory
prior to installing *any* 3rd party utilities ...
----------------------------
Advanced Installation
---------------------
There are several commandline parameters for ColdDrake; for those who
are adept at editing the LORD "3RDPARTY.DAT" file, the parameters are
as follows:
/CP<path> The FULL pathname to CASTLE.EXE.
eg... /CPC:\CASTLE\CASTLE.EXE
/N<#> Node number.
eg... /N1
/HS<#> Hardware handshaking mode. Range 0 to 3
eg... /HS2
Where: 0=None
1=XON/XOFF
2=CTS/RTS
3=BOTH XON/XOFF & CTS/RTS
If your users are having display problems, try /HS2
/DB Debug mode (testing ONLY!!)
NOTE:
When editing the ColdDrake commandline, the /CP parameter MUST follow
immediately after CASTLE.EXE, as this is how INSTALL determines if you
have previously installed ColdDrake. If you botch this up, I guarantee
you are going to curse the program. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
----------------
Operation
---------
Castle ColdDrake is a *very* complex project. Your users will play
for hours and only scratch the surface of the contents of the castle!
There are many clues which can only be discovered after playing for
some time, most of which lead to other clues. Allow them to play and
DISCOVER; that is half the fun.
As you know, there are lots of *hidden* functions in LORD, and so in
Castle ColdDrake. After all, shouldn't the IGM follow the game? We
think so.
Castle ColdDrake manages its own daily maintenance. You only need to
delete the "CASTLE.USR" datafile when you reset LORD ... Simple, eh?
Since ColdDrake is ShareWare, you will notice a timed delay, and an
annoying BEEP when a user enters or exits. This is *not* done to
upset or discourage the SysOp or user; it is our attempt to convince
you to register a project which has taken over 3000 hours to develop
to the point which you see it. PLEASE REGISTER!!!
The jokes told by Raxx the Jester are contained in the "JOKES.DAT"
file. This is a plain ASCII textfile with carriage return/linefeed
delimitation. Should you decide to add your own jokes, you may do
so -- provided you end each joke with a carriage return/linefeed and
limit the number of lines in the "JOKES.DAT" file to 500. Any more
than that will simply be ignored.
-----------------------------------------
Support for 3RDPARTY.DAT extenders
----------------------------------
None ... QWK-IGM, the engine with which ColdDrake was written, does
not support any utility which changes or extends the operation of
LORD. To keep up with all 3rd party manipulations of the game
would be a full time job. We at Ballistic Labs attempt to keep the
system in line with the parameters for IGMs set forth by the author
of LORD. Besides, I understand that LORD 3.50 will support more
than the current limit of 9 IGMs. If you are having a problem with
any utility which changes the operation of LORD, may I suggest that
you contact the author of the utility and ask him/her to review
its operation as it relates to Castle ColdDrake and the QWK-IGM
engine. If all else fails, try entering the commandline for the
IGM manually.
---------------------
Problems/fixes
--------------
*ALL* software contains bugs, some more than others. All Ballistic
Labs software is thoroughly tested by competent, experienced SysOps
and playtesters. This does not mean that ColdDrake is bug free. It
does mean that we have taken great pains to insure that you recieve
what we believe to be a quality product. Should you find a bug in
the program, please do not hesitate to contact one of the beta
testers listed below, or follow the instructions found in the
support section of this document. We *will* immediatly fix the bugs
that effect the playability of the game. Regular updates will be
made available with game enhancements and cosmetic fixes.
-------------------
Registration
------------
Anyone utilizing Castle ColdDrake for more that 30 days is asked
to submit the required registration fees. The fees are the only
compensation we receive for our efforts. Please help insure the
future of the "try before you buy" concept by registering!! See
the CASTLE.REG file for more information.

Notes
-----
ColdDrake is written in QuickBasic 4.5. It utilizes the QWK-IGM
engine produced by Ballistic Labs. If you are a BASIC programmer,
and are interested in learning more about QWK-IGM, contact us at our
Support BBS for information about how you can write IGMs quickly and
easily using QWK-IGM! Or F'req QWKIGM from any of our Beta sites!
--------------
Support
-------
In the unlikely event that you have *any* problems installing or
running ColdDrake, either call or netmail our support BBS, or leave
an E-Mail message in the FidoNet DOORGAME Development echo. We at
Ballistic Labs endeavor to provide top quality doorware. We believe
that customer support is the key to success.

Kudos
-----
Yelonda, Justin, Mandy, and Athena, my family. For their faith and
understanding. Ada, my mother-in-law, for her lack of faith. I think
she has more to do with my stick-it-to-it-iveness than anyone. Jerry,
for teaching me *not* to trust anyone. KJ, for a great idea! And GOD,
for helping me keep my faith in myself.
Many thanks to our fine group of Beta testers! Why not log into their
BBSes sometime? You will be glad you did!!
