CHAPTER 1 - Introduction

1.1 What is BBS Crash?
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
BBS Crash is an online game, or a DOOR for on-line Bulletin Board
Systems. The DOOR is run on-line where users can log in, and play
the game against the computer and other users. The main object of
the game is to become the best hacker possible.

1.2 Features of BBS Crash.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
o Full Support For *MANY* popular BBS systems including RemoteAccess,
QuickBBS, SBBS, PCBoard, WildCat, RBBS, GAP, and Spitfire!
o Full Fossil Communications Supported (BNU or X00).
o Baud rates up to 38.4k locked are supported.
o Com Ports 1 through 4 are supported. Com Ports 1 through 16 are
available if using BNU by David Nugent.
o Supports CTS checking, even at 300 bps, for error free transmissions.
o Does not require Watchdog, CTTY or Doorway
o High Speed Input & Output Routines.
o Detects loss of carrier.
o Terminates cleanly through an error back to the board.
o No "Screen Bleeds" under Multi-Tasking.
o Has its own built in ansi driver for fast screen displays.
o Written in Borland's Turbo Pascal v6.0 for fast speed and small size.

1.3 System Hardware and Software Requirements

BBS Crash can be run on BBS systems that support the following file
formats:
DORINFOx.DEF - RBBS
DORINFOx.DEF - RemoteAccess/QuickBBS/SuperBBS
PCBOARD.SYS - PCBoard v12.x
PCBOARD.SYS - PCBoard v14.x
CHAIN.TXT - WWIV/Telegard
DOOR.SYS - GAP
INFO.BBS - Phoenix
CALLINFO.BBS - Wildcat
SFDOORS.DAT - Spitfire
GTUSER.BBS - GT
In the way of hardware requirements. BBS Crash can be run on any MS-DOS
based system with the proper software installed. BBS Crash has been
successfully tested on XTs, 286s, 386s, and 486s in all sorts of
combinations. It also has been tested on system setups with LANs and
multi-tasking devices such as DesqView.
BBS Crash works best when using a fossil driver such as X00 or BNU.

1.4 License and Disclaimer

"BBS Crash" refers to the executables and documentation in the original
distribution archive.
o BBS Crash is copyrighten software by Steve and John Richardson
of TopSoft Software, Inc. for 1989-1992. It may only be used in
in agreement with the conditions set out in this license agreement.
o BBS Crash is distributed as shareware. By using the shareware
concept, we allow people to try before they buy, or "register".
Under the shareware concept, you may use BBS Crash for an
evaluation period of one month. After this period is over,
you MUST either register BBS Crash or stop using it.
o BBS Crash may be freely distributed as long this happens in the
original unmodified ZIP file in which it was released and as
long as no money or any other compensation is asked or accepted
without prior written permission from the author.
o Although care has been taken to write and test a program that
does what this document states, the program is provided as is,
without warranty or guarantee of any kind, either expressed or
implied, as to the quality or performance of this program,
except that it will occupy disk space.

1.6 Registration of software
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
BBS Crash's registration fee is $15.00usd. The $15.00 fee entitles
you to to free upgrades of the software providing you keep your key
file. All upgrades will be available for download on the TopSoft
Support BBS.
Your payment may be made by Check, Money Order, or Credit Card. An
*INSTANT* online registration may be done on-line via our BBS at
1-502-425-9942 (HST/V32b). Just hit R from the main menu on that
node, and enter the TopSoft registration door for a *speedy*
registration as your KEY files are made while you are ONLINE!

CHAPTER 2 - BBS Crash Installation

2.1 BBSINIT
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
To configure BBS Crash, you must run the BBSINIT.EXE program. This
process will setup the main CRASHx.CFG file(s). If you would like to edit
the players starting amounts/how many times they can play each day and/or
options such as locked baud rates, monochrome mode, comport, which comm
routines, then use a text editor (ex. QEDIT) to edit the configuration files.

2.2 Starting the program

Example on how to invoke BBS Crash . . .
CRASH nodenumber
Thus, for a 1 node system it would be:
CRASH 1
and BBS Crash will check your CRASH1.CFG for all vital information.
If you would like to invoke BBS Crash in local mode, then you must execute
it like this.
CRASH /L
The /L means local mode.

2.3 Starting a new game
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
At any time should you wish to start a new game, simply delete all the
data files [DEL *.DAT] in the BBS Crash directory. Then afterwards run the
BBSINIT.EXE program once again.

2.4 SysOp functions
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Up Arrow o This key will add two minutes of game time to the current
users game session.
Down Arrow o This key will subtract two minutes of game time from the
current users game session.
Alt-C o This key is used to initate CHAT mode. This allows the
SysOp to converse with the user. BBS Crash supports full
word wrapping in CHAT mode.
ESC o The escape key is used to terminate CHAT mode.
