  1.        README file for Microsoft Excel Promotional Edition

  3. SETUP information
  4. -----------------
  5. Setting up the Promotional Edition of Microsoft Excel is done via a batch
  6. file on DISK 1 called SETUP.BAT.  SETUP.BAT will copy the required Microsoft
  7. Excel files to a directory called XLDEMO on your hard disk.  By default,
  8. SETUP assumes your hard disk is drive C: and your floppy drive is drive A:.

  10. If your system is different than this, SETUP accepts up to 2 command line 
  11. arguments.  The first argument indicates your hard drive letter, the second 
  12. indicates your floppy drive letter.  For example, if your hard disk is 
  13. drive C: and your floppy drive is drive B:, you would invoke setup by typing
  14. "B:SETUP C: B:" and pressing the ENTER key.

  16. Hardware Requirements
  17. ---------------------
  18. Microsoft Excel requires a full 640kb of conventional memory.  This version
  19. of Microsoft Excel includes a pre-configured version of Windows for an IBM
  20. EGA with high resolution color display or 100% compatible, (The EGA card 
  21. must have 256kb of video memory on it.) and a Microsoft Mouse.  Printer 
  22. drivers for the HP LaserJet and Epson FX series printers are also included.
  23. The Promotional Edition of Microsoft Excel assumes the printer is connected
  24. to LPT1:.

  26. Note for Full Windows Users
  27. ---------------------------
  28. If you use a full version of Windows version 2.03 or later, you don't have 
  29. to use setup at all. Simply copy EXCEL.EXE, PREV.FON, ANNUAL.XLS, EAST.XLS, 
  30. WEST.XLS, SALES.XLS, REPORT.XLS and DEMO.XLW to the Windows directory on 
  31. your hard disk.  Once this is done you can start Microsoft Excel as you
  32. would start any Windows application.
