- 1. What IS this?
- ================

- This set of files is a patch for ids game DOOM. It will:
-
- * Change the missile thrower into a blaster pistol (a la Star Wars)
-
- * Modify the missiles behaviour (faster, different damage, different
- impact behaviour, maximum ammo 450)
-
- * Update the help screen ('Blaster' replaces 'Rocket', F11 added)
-
- * Update the information bar (BLST instead of RCKT)
-
- * The munchkin patch will furthermore:
- + Change the pistol to a rocket launcher, making it the default weapon
- + Feed it on normal bullets
- + Change the damage to 7000 (drop a cyberdemon today :)

- 2. May I distribute this?
- =========================

- Oh yes. This is ShareWare, please distribute freely on two
- conditions:
-
- * All files stay together and intact.
-
- * If you put this on a CD-ROM for resale, send me one of the CD-
- ROMs. Otherwise, you are not allowed to make _any_ kind of money
- on this - which includes the so-called 'copying fees' of
- shareware vendors.

- Hint to other Patch/WAD authors: I've been adding the above clause
- to my programs for some time - just makes sure that you also benefit
- if someone makes money off your work...

- 3. How do I use this?
- =====================
-
- Easy: copy the BINST.ZIP file into your doom directory and unpack
- it like this:
-
- PkUnzip -d BINST
-
- This will create a directory called BLASTER in your DOOM directory.
- Now type BLASTER to install the normal weapon or MUNCHKIN for the
- mega-weapon (see BLASTER.TXT for details).

- Call DOOM using:
-
- DOOM -file BLASTER\BLASTER.WAD
-
- (You can just add the names of any PWADS files at the end of the command
- line).
-
- You can switch between the Munchkin and the Normal weapon:
-
- DEHACKED -load BLASTER\MUNCHKIN.DEH or
- DEHACKED -load BLASTER\BLASTER.DEH
-
- You will need these three utilities:
-
- DMAUD, by Bill Neisius (bill@solaria.hac.com)
- DMGRAPH, also by Bill Neisius
- DEHACKED, by Greg Lewis (gregory@umich.edu)

- If you haven't got these (you should!), you'll find the
- executable in the BLASTER directory.

- 4. What's a good level to try this out right away?
- ==================================================

- Try E2M5 (type IDCLEV25 during play), it's where I tested it mostly.

- 5. Why did you make this?

- Well, _I_ like the MegaBlaster Munchkin Maker >:-)
- Besides, I'm working on a StarWars patch, and I've just finished
- the blaster - here it is!

- A Big Thanks to the guys at id - this is the most amazing game
- I've ever seen. And I really dig your helping out infant2 with
- the storage space!

- 6. Any bugs?
- ============

- Yeah, the amount of damage caused seems to vary wildly. At times, a
- trooper will just jerk when hit, at other times he blows apart. Similar
- things happen to deathmatchers: sometimes they get killed outright,
- at other times they loose about 15% health.
- Personally I like this - make for interesting battles.
- (Of course, the Munchkin patch does not suffer from this :)

- Did you know you can die in God Mode? Try battling the cyberdemon in
- Munchkin mode!

- I'm patching the graphics into your DOOM.WAD. Come v1.666 of DOOM, the
- sprites can evidentally also be included in PWADS - I've tried this in
- here already: try just loading BLASTER.WAD in v1.666
-
- One other thing: don't change the munchkin patch to use ammo type 5 (no
- ammo needed) if you want to keep your shotgun. If you don't need it,
- go ahead.
