-
- 1. To run Chess Maniac from Windows, first install the game from DOS.
- Then load Windows and open the group in which you wish to place Chess
- Maniac. Select "New" from the File menu. In the New Program Object
- dialog box, click on the "Program Item" button, and then hit "OK".
- From the Properties dialog box, click the "Browse" button and find the
- "CM5" directory. In the window with the list of files (including
- "CM5.EXE"), click on the file called "CM5.PIF". This is the Windows
- executable file that runs Chess Maniac. Click "OK". In the Program
- Item Properties dialog box, select the "Change Icon" button. Ignore
- the warning message. From the Change Icon dialog box, click on the
- "Browse" button once again and return to the "CM5" folder. Highlight
- the "CM5.ICO" file. This is the icon that will appear in your folder.
- A picture of the Chess Maniac should appear in the Change Icon dialog
- box. When you click "OK" in the Change Icon and the Properties boxes,
- the Chess Maniac icon will appear in the appropriate group. Double-
- click on the icon to run Chess Maniac.
-
- 2. Under the Option menu, Chess Maniac can access additional sets and
- backdrops. As of this writing, Chess Maniac does not offer any
- additional 2-D boards or backdrops. Nor are any 3-D sets available
- beyond the Boring and Bawdy sets. Look for these future add-on
- products at your local retailer!
-
- 3. The Replay feature may be activated from the menu bar or by
- pressing Alt-R. Additionally, when you click on the Move List, the
- Replay controls will be placed on the screen. Using the Move List, you
- may go to an earlier point in the game by clicking on that move number
- on the Move List itself. Then, when you click on one of your pieces,
- the program will ask if you want to go to that point in the game.
- Moving to an earlier point is irreversible; it is suggested that you
- either save your game or print out a copy of the Move List in advance
- of moving to an earlier point. Also, you can only reenter an earlier
- point when it is a human player's turn. The Replay feature, used from
- the Move List, will not work for moving to a computer player's turn.
-
- 4. The Sound Set-Up utility has difficulty detecting Sound Canvas and
- Walt Disney Sound Source cards. If you select one of these cards in
- the utility, the program will display a message, "The driver you have
- selected was not detected." Click on the "Use driver anyway" option,
- and the sound should work fine.
