  7. 1. To run Chess Maniac from Windows, first install the game from DOS.
  8. Then load Windows and open the group in which you wish to place Chess
  9. Maniac. Select "New" from the File menu. In the New Program Object 
  10. dialog box, click on the "Program Item" button, and then hit "OK".
  11. From the Properties dialog box, click the "Browse" button and find the 
  12. "CM5" directory. In the window with the list of files (including
  13. "CM5.EXE"), click on the file called "CM5.PIF". This is the Windows
  14. executable file that runs Chess Maniac. Click "OK". In the Program
  15. Item Properties dialog box, select the "Change Icon" button. Ignore
  16. the warning message. From the Change Icon dialog box, click on the
  17. "Browse" button once again and return to the "CM5" folder. Highlight
  18. the "CM5.ICO" file. This is the icon that will appear in your folder.
  19. A picture of the Chess Maniac should appear in the Change Icon dialog
  20. box. When you click "OK" in the Change Icon and the Properties boxes,
  21. the Chess Maniac icon will appear in the appropriate group. Double-
  22. click on the icon to run Chess Maniac.

  24. 2. Under the Option menu, Chess Maniac can access additional sets and
  25. backdrops. As of this writing, Chess Maniac does not offer any
  26. additional 2-D boards or backdrops. Nor are any 3-D sets available
  27. beyond the Boring and Bawdy sets. Look for these future add-on
  28. products at your local retailer!

  30. 3. The Replay feature may be activated from the menu bar or by
  31. pressing Alt-R. Additionally, when you click on the Move List, the
  32. Replay controls will be placed on the screen. Using the Move List, you
  33. may go to an earlier point in the game by clicking on that move number
  34. on the Move List itself. Then, when you click on one of your pieces,
  35. the program will ask if you want to go to that point in the game.
  36. Moving to an earlier point is irreversible; it is suggested that you
  37. either save your game or print out a copy of the Move List in advance
  38. of moving to an earlier point. Also, you can only reenter an earlier
  39. point when it is a human player's turn. The Replay feature, used from
  40. the Move List, will not work for moving to a computer player's turn.

  42. 4. The Sound Set-Up utility has difficulty detecting Sound Canvas and
  43. Walt Disney Sound Source cards. If you select one of these cards in
  44. the utility, the program will display a message, "The driver you have
  45. selected was not detected." Click on the "Use driver anyway" option,
  46. and the sound should work fine.
