- CHANGES TO THE STAR LEGIONS MANUAL FOR VERSION 1.0
- ==================================================
-
- * Copyright Page
- Portions of the Star Legions code is licensed from Mark Baldwin.
-
- * Credits
- Mark Baldwin was the co-author of the STAR FLEET II module.
-
- * Actual System Requirements
- To install and run Star Legions you will require the following actual
- minimum requirements on your PC (use the "chkdsk" or "mem" command
- to check):
- Low RAM free: 570 KB (no Sound Blaster voice)
- 582 KB (with voice for Sound Blaster)
- Extended RAM: 0 KB (no voice)
- 705 KB (with voice)
- Extended RAM is recommended for better performance even without
- a sound board. Expanded RAM is not used.
- Hard disk space: 4.0 MB (no voice)
- 5.0 MB (with voice)
- If you do not have a Sound Blaster or compatible board, then you
- can delete all the files in the \VOC subdirectory for more space.
-
- * Sign-On Options - Legions Data (p.21)
- If you click on the name or number of any of the legions listed, detailed
- information, including the banner and legion motto, will appear. This
- works the same as for viewing the detailed mission histories.
-
- * Mission Elapsed Time Display (p.38)
- When you have frozen the game, the "Time" label in this display will
- change to "Frzn".
-
- * Planetary Control Panel - VIEW CITY Mode (p.43)
- The "Quit" button on the CommVid exits you from viewing cities, not the
- "OK" button as the manual states on the first line.
-
- * Planetary Control Panel - VIEW CITY Mode (p.43)
- The "Full" button on the CommVid used to bring up the full map, does not
- change to say "Restore" when full map is being displayed. Clicking on
- the "Full" button again will remove the full map and return to the planet
- map display.
-
- * Orbital Control Panel - Ship Data Display (p.49)
- Under ORDERS, the display will show "Xfer" instead of "Transit" for when
- the ship is transferring between orbits.
-
- * Orbital Control Panel - Orbit Altitude Sub-Panel (pp.51-53)
- Viewing cities is NOT dependent on the city being within the FOV of
- any orbiting ship, even for FULL map viewing. A hi-res scanning satellite
- is left in a stationary geosync orbit above each detected city. This
- provides automatic viewing capability.
-
- ADDITIONAL NOTES:
-
- Installation and Configuration
- - Hardware Check
-
- To determine the type of sound card available for music and sound
- effects, the INSTALL program is set to automatically scan the computer
- hardware. In case the program cannot successfully scan your particular
- hardware, you are given an option to skip the scan process and
- manually input the sound card settings yourself.
-
- If you select NO to Hardware Check, then the INSTALL program will
- default to no sound card and you must choose the correct sound card
- settings yourself. If you are using a Sound Blaster card for sound
- effects, then you will need to choose the correct I/O port, sound IRQ
- setting, and DMA Channel setting. When choosing these settings, the
- defaults will be highlighted. You can choose the defaults or select
- your own settings.
-
- - Troubleshooting
-
- Some AdLib compatible sound cards may not be detected by the INSTALL
- program. In this case, it will default to the PC speaker. You may
- override this selection and instead choose the card that your sound
- card is compatible to.
-
- If sound problems occur within the game, there may be a compatibility
- problem with your specific hardware configuration. To test for sound
- card compatibility problems, run the CONFIG program and select PC
- Speaker to see if this eliminates your problems.
